Think McCarthy as a change-of-scenery trade chip this summer makes sense though
Brewer Fan

It's got to be time to give Misiorowski a shot right? They need pitching and he is lighting it up
Anthony Franco
3:37
I'm surprised he's not up already. Can't imagine it'll be much longer

3:37
Am I a sneaky trade candidate in 2025? Maybe more a winter deal because Catching doesn't change hands at the deadline often. But with Basallo basically ready and my struggles, it's got to be an option right? My control is dwindling but still gives me some value while hopefully bringing back some impact talent? Is this crazy?
Anthony Franco
3:40
Man, it's not completely crazy but I'd have a hard time doing it. Rutschman's offense over the past couple seasons has been pretty mediocre but he looked like a slam-dunk franchise player until about 12 months ago
3:43
Agree this is much more likely to happen over the offseason than at the deadline. They'd be down to two arb years and you can make the case for swapping him for pitching to open the position for Basallo, but I still feel pretty strongly that Rutschman's going to bounce back and again become the kind of guy that teams just don't trade until they really have to

Wondering if the Cardinals can keep this up. Still thinking they’ll come back to earth, that the last week and a half isn’t who the current roster really is, but would appreciate your view.
Anthony Franco
3:46
Still have a hard time really buying in here. They're better than I expected going into the season -- didn't see the Matthew Liberatore breakout coming -- but they've been fortunate to avoid any notable rotation injuries and the bullpen feels very tenuous
3:47
I can see them hanging around .500 but don't buy them as a playoff team
Braves Fan
3:47
With Acuña coming back in a few weeks it looks like Eli White is definitely outplaying Alex Verdugo for full time AB’s in LF, but I have no confidence that Snitker will make the right no-brainer decision to go that direction. What say you?
Anthony Franco
3:48
We'll see how long White keeps this up but I'm with you that he should be playing over Verdugo, at least in the short term
Yankee fan
3:49
What 3B will be available at the deadline you think? McMahon? Anyone else I'm not thinking of?
Anthony Franco
3:50
Arenado's name will be back out there. Yankees didn't seem to want anything to do with that over the winter. McMahon could be, I guess. He's been better lately after a horrible start, still requires the Rockies to sell low on a player they should've dealt last year
3:52
Darragh and I talked about Eugenio Suárez as a potential trade candidate on the pod this week. Arizona's going to need to add pitching help and if Lawlar's hitting well, they could feel that they could replace Suárez without taking too much of a downgrade
3:53
Miguel Andújar's having a pretty good season. Doubt the Yankees want him playing third base every day and the A's are hanging around for now, but that'd be a fun long shot one

A.J. Hinch For early favorite manager of the year. Who says no?
Anthony Franco
3:53
No argument from me
A’s Fan
3:53
Do you think the A’s will make any moves and if so, who do you think they will go after? Skenes??? :)
Anthony Franco
3:55
Ha yeah, the Pirates aren't trading Skenes. A's definitely need another starter if they're serious about contending. The Osvaldo Bido experience isn't working
3:57
Tough to tell who's going to be available for now because the handful of terrible teams have little to no starting pitching to offer. Miami's Ryan Weathers could be an interesting one. Rays will probably deal Zack Littell. Pirates are going to move Andrew Heaney at some point, though I wouldn't love him as a fit in Sacramento given his history of HR problems

What can the Royals do to fix their offense? So far, it’s only BWJ Superstar and a bunch of middling hitters. IMHO, it looks like the pitching staff could take them a long way, but they simply are not scoring enough runs.
Anthony Franco
3:59
Gotta get outfield help. They should be in on Mullins if/when he comes available. Caglianone being able to play a competent corner outfield would be a huge help
4:01
I think they're good enough as is to get back to the postseason behind Witt and the rotation (which is the best in baseball IMO) but obviously I'd like their chances more if they didn't have a replacement-level outfield
Joff Smoth
4:01
contract prediction for Luis Arraez?
Anthony Franco
4:01
Man I have no idea
4:03
I'd probably have him in the Profar range (3/42) but with an opt-out after the first season. There's no player like him so he's such a weird one to project because you can't go off precedent for how the market has valued guys like this
4:06
We know the Padres were happy to keep him for this season at $14MM. He had trade value last year but the Marlins paid down almost the entirety of his $9MM salary and the return they got was pretty mediocre. Three minor leaguers but only one ('23 first-rounder Dillon Head) who you'd say is better than a C+ grade prospect
4:08
So it's not like he was in super high demand when he was available on the trade market. Gleyber Torres signed for $15M last offseason and I'd rather have Arraez (though Gleyber's off to a really nice start) so that feels like the absolute floor to me

You just mentioned Weathers from Miami. The big talk about Marlins pitching was how great Alacantra is. I saw him in Miami and he had next to nothing. Did they hold on to him too long - I won’t give up much in terms of prospects for him now if I ran a team.
Anthony Franco
4:09
They were a playoff team in '23 and he was recovering from Tommy John surgery last year, so there wasn't a time when they really could have traded him
4:10
Did a post on that this week comparing him to the Luzardo situation, where they probably jumped too early to move him because they were afraid of another injury
Royals
4:10
Could they target McCarthy?
Anthony Franco
4:10
Yeah I could see that, feels like a very Royals player
Candlestick Clyde
4:10
How can the Giants get their groove back?
Anthony Franco
4:13
This'll probably be my sixth consecutive chat of calling for them to end the Jordan Hicks rotation thing. Not much to do right now beyond that. They'll need to upgrade over Wade at first base at some point but it'd be a tough ask of Eldridge right now and they'll have more options at the deadline
4:15
I don't think they're in trouble or anything. They were playing a little above their head through the first couple weeks of the season. They're playing closer to expectations right now but 25-19 and third place in baseball's best division is a good first month and a half
Hold The Mayo
4:15
Have the O's botched the rebuild or is this just one of those years of injuries and bad luck?
Anthony Franco
4:17
More the latter for me, though it's obviously fair to criticize their unwillingness to take another Burnes-type swing in the rotation last offseason. I figured they'd hold their head above water and be able to make that kind of move at the deadline, but it left no margin for error when Rodriguez and Eflin went down
4:19
Still think there's too much talent in the lineup to feel like they bungled the entire rebuild, but I definitely get the fanbase's frustration with both Rubenstein and Elias. This should have been the year when they made the leap to the top of the AL and they're instead going to end up as reluctant deadline sellers
