Hey everyone, hope all is well
3:43
Decent amount in the queue already so I'll jump in a bit early

With Heyward does Pages remain on the roster and starter? Outman has to be the odd man out right? Unless they DFA someone.
Anthony Franco
3:45
Yeah, even with Pages' K/BB profile, I think he has to stay on the roster over Outman. It's tough because Outman's their best defensive outfielder but if they send Pages down, they're probably stuck with subpar offense in both center and right field
3:48
Having both CT3 and Hernández on the roster is probably a waste. I'd probably DFA Hernández myself, but I also thought he was a superfluous signing to begin with. They're also seven games up in a division where they entered the year as clear favorites, so I wouldn't be surprised if they kept everyone on the 40 and sent Outman down temporarily just to maintain the depth for now

Is there any indication that the Toronto Blue Jays will be a seller at the deadline this year?
jaysfansince1977
3:48
Hey Anthony, Question regarding the Jays: Are they on the verge of a complete collapse or is there still a glimmer of hope they can turn things around??? If there is a glimmer what in your mind does this team need to do??? DFA a few or make a mid May trade???
Anthony Franco
3:51
There's still some hope but it's basically in crossing their fingers that Bichette gets going and you get better production from Bassitt and whoever the #5 starter is (Yariel, Manoah, etc.). Not much to be done to fix the team from the outside right now
3:52
Can't imagine they're looking at themselves as sellers right now -- if nothing else, the front office's jobs would probably be in jeopardy if we get to that point -- but they'll need to play better over the next two months or they won't have a choice

Does Sean Murphy get activated in 5-10 days or more like 14-20?
Anthony Franco
3:54
He's supposed to go on a rehab stint next week. Seems like he'll be back within 10 days or so

3:54
When all is said and done, where do the A's call home?
Anthony Franco
3:54
They'll end up in Vegas. Still some procedural hurdles to clear but nothing that seems like an actual threat to the relocation at this point

I can see the Minnesota Twins dropping to 3rd this year in the final AL Central standings. Agree or disagree?
Does Minnesota buy or sell at the deadline?
Sam
3:55
Hey Anthony - Thoughts on what the Twins might try to do at this year's deadline?
Anthony Franco
3:56
I'd expect the Twins to finish in the top two in the Central. It'd take a really bad couple months for them not to buy at the deadline
3:59
The lineup still skews pretty left-handed, although they've been good against LHP this year overall. Could still use a rotational right-handed bat in the outfield or at first base. Maybe a depth starter with questions about Paddack's innings and Woods Richardson not having much of an MLB track record
4:00
It's a good roster though, not many glaring holes. Guess you could argue for a more traditional fourth outfielder with Buxton's injury history. Willi Castro's a good utility player but not a great fit for regular center field work

What can AZ do to fix Carroll at this point? His two highlights of the season have been against Colorado and Cincinnati in their parks, known to help hitters. Does he get optioned? Sat for a week? Allowed to play and just hoping he figures whatever it is out? Looking like the contract will easily be worth in franchise history at this point already...
Anthony Franco
4:02
Just have to ride it out. He's too talented to sit for an extended stretch or send back to Reno. This is basically the only time in his career that he's hit a significant slump
4:04
I don't know why he's not hitting the ball hard right now, but it's not like he doesn't have raw power. He's not capitalizing on pitches in the heart of the plate. Just needs to find his stride again

Is Cortes the odd man out once Cole returns?
Anthony Franco
4:05
Still think it'd be Schmidt given his experience in relief but there's a good chance one of the top five suffers an injury in the next month and takes the decision out of their hands

How about that game today huh?
Anthony Franco
4:06
Decent second MLB start
Ryan Red Leg
4:06
Do you think the Reds can turn their season around and sneak into the last wild card spot?  Their starting pitching is just too good for them to keep losing like this and surely their hitting will come around.
Anthony Franco
4:07
I'd have the Padres slightly ahead of them but the Reds would probably be next for me in that group of mediocrity in the NL. Also certainly not guaranteed that both Chicago and Milwaukee make the playoffs, so there could be two Wild Card spots up for grabs
Whichever of Philly or Atlanta doesn't win the East is definitely getting one though
Brett No Baty
4:08
When do the Mets give Vientos an extended look at 3B? Baty isn't the answer.
Anthony Franco
4:09
Baty hasn't been terrible against RHP. I don't think Vientos is a regular third baseman but he should hit for power against lefties. I'd be fine with a platoon arrangement there
4:10
Not ideal considering Baty and Vientos are ostensibly two of their more promising young hitters, but that's probably their best play right now
tigerfan
4:10
Is our season over? That series with Miami was pathetic
Anthony Franco
4:11
I'm not completely out on them yet, but I had more hope for the offense than they've shown so far
4:12
I'd take Minnesota to win the division at this point after picking Detroit preseason
GBS42
4:12
Will the Cardinals finish in third, fourth, or the cellar? Those seem to be the only options.
Anthony Franco
4:13
It would seem that way. I'd probably have them in last
In the division, that is. Not the entire league
Dewey
4:13
Would it make sense to use Jack Leiter out of the bullpen to acclimate him a little better?
Anthony Franco
4:14
I think that's his long-term home but they're thin on starting pitching because of the injuries so it makes sense to keep him stretched out in Round Rock right now
