Abreu has earned the benefit of the doubt based on his career track record but the underlying numbers aren't good. Very little hard contact, chasing a lot of bad pitches right now

Miranda is not striking out at a bad level, but not putting up any impressive numbers. Do you think he has upside to be a top 10 third baseman?  top 15?
Anthony Franco
4:32
I think Jose Miranda can be a top ten offensive third baseman, slow start notwithstanding. Not sure the glove is good enough to put him in the top 10 in overall value though, probably closer to league average

One outing means nothing but still going to ask…young guns in AZ and LAD going to be alright ROS?
Anthony Franco
4:34
Likely going to have some ups and downs for both Gavin Stone and Brandon Pfaadt but they should both be alright in aggregate. I have more faith in Stone right now because the changeup should be an immediate out pitch

What does an extension or FA deal for Bo Bichette look like? High average, decent pop, some stolen bases but his defense is worse than Xander’s. Does a switch to 2nd help him? Or maybe the outfield?

He's already signed for just under $34MM for his three arbitration seasons. He's on track to get to free agency headed into 2028. If he keeps on his current trajectory, he'd probably beat the 10/$325MM that Corey Seager got from Texas at the same age
4:40
I don't think Toronto would offer that now -- things can go wrong in three years -- but I think he'd at least have to top the 10/$212MM the Braves gave Austin Riley

The loss of Ray for the season hurts for sure.  Do the M’s need to look outside for more starting pitching help or do you think thye can cover it within the organization.  Flexen struggling certainly doesn’t help.
Anthony Franco

They'll probably have to add a starter around the deadline. Even if Bryce Miller steps in effectively, would be nice to add someone who can push Marco Gonzales to a sixth starter role if everyone's healthy and safeguard against injury

thanks for taking the Questions ....Anthony ... as starts are some are good some are bad as they say and you Cant win a pennant in April ...or into May ... but you can Lose one 2 questions does Cashman sit tight and wait out this because some of the pieces are starting to return and replacement parts are rounding out who's who .. Till the others do as well. i feel that IF the Starters can go … into the 6th 7th inning .I haven't been comfortable with the some of the choices since they retired 42 for Mo.

Yankees have to just wait things out for now. Still too early to make any significant trade upgrades. Eventually they're going to have to figure out left field though. The Cabrera/Calhoun/Bauers/Hicks rotation isn't cutting it
4:46
Rotation should get a boost whenever Rodón comes back. Bullpen has been pretty good overall but I agree there's room for some help there eventually in light of the Trivino and Loaisiga injuries and Holmes' inconsistency so far

Lots of middle of the pack teams and lower rung teams coming out of the gate strong, while a few of the top teams are struggling. Nats are playing .500 ball since a bad first week. The Mets lose three in Detroit and outscored 16 to 6! Small sample size? Cold weather? Scheduling quirks? Injury bug hitting some teams much more than others? Or maybe we are seeing a broad rejuggling of which teams are good and which are not (some stars rise while other fade)?

Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Arizona are all better than they have been in recent years, which helps. I don't think the league trend is abnormal though. Oakland, Colorado, Kansas City and (randomly) St. Louis are all playing at paces that'd put them among the worst two teams in the league last season

Hi Anthony, thanks for the chats as always. I was watching the M's-A's game the other night and the M's lost their challenge earlier in the game, but Servais was able to request a "crew review" TWICE later in the game and both were granted. So how is this allowed? What's the difference between the two? I'm totally confused lol.
Anthony Franco
4:51
Yeah I think it's a mostly immaterial distinction if the crew chief is going to grant managerial "requests" for review even after they lose their challenge
4:53
I get why it's there but I'd rather take that umpire discretion out and accept that some bad calls could go uncorrected if a manager burns his challenge early in the game

What's your opinion on hunter Stovall (rockies prospect)? He's  killing it in AAA. Think he be called up soon?
Anthony Franco
4:55
He's 26 and has never been a highly-regarded prospect within the organization. I'm not super bullish but agree that the upper level performance at least merits an MLB look to see if he can follow a similar path as Sean Bouchard last year

Who can the Cardinals realistically move at the deadline and what kind of return would they fetch? I feel like even the players that are not signed for next year are mediocrities or just slightly better
Anthony Franco
4:57
Jordan Montgomery would be one of the top rental starters available if they moved him. Think he's better than you're giving him credit. Otherwise, it's a pretty bland class of impending FA's
4:58
They just signed Giovanny Gallegos to a two-year extension last October, so maybe he's off the table, but he'd get a lot of interest if they were willing to listen

Hi Anthony, thanks for chatting! Regarding Luis Garcia of the Nationals, I have him in a deep fantasy league.  I think he's worth holding on to -- do you have a sense of what his career might look like as he approaches his prime?  He's only 23 this month, though it feels like he's been around for a long while.  Any hope of above average pop here?
Anthony Franco
5:01
I don't see it. Even if he's got that kind of raw power potential, the approach isn't discerning enough. He swings a lot and has the pure contact skills to put balls in play even if they're outside the strike zone, which is a mixed bag. It keeps the strikeouts down but limits the damage he can do because he's not going after pitches he can hit with authority
5:02
Alright I have to cut things off here. Sorry for the stuff I couldn't get to today. I'm happy to take questions on Twitter, and we'll do this again next Friday

Thanks for all the questions and for supporting the site! Have a good weekend!
