Not seeing the appeal for Boston with Bohm as an impending FA. Duran for Stott and a prospect framework makes more sense to me but requires an initial trade on Philly's end to add a stopgap second baseman. They can't just hand that over to Edmundo Sosa

I know everyone has been on the Pirates about Ozuna, but what about Henry Davis? Can they keep running a .135 hitter out there?
Anthony Franco
3:40
Yeah he probably goes back to Indy once Bart comes off the IL. Some of the process stuff (hard contact, K/BB profile) was better in May but the results haven't followed and Endy Rodríguez just looks like the better player
May the force be with you

Is Dustin May back to being an above average ML pitcher?  He's been a QS machine for the past 2 months.  Do you see him getting traded at the deadline and what teams make the most sense.  My guess is Atlanta but there should be others.

I can buy league average starter when healthy. Braves make sense if they trade him, sure. Astros, Padres, D-Backs could be in rotation market
3:43
Similar to Noot in that I don't see them doing it while they hold a playoff spot. It's not like the return is going to be immense

How good will Jordan Lawlar be? Is he a keeper, or should the Diamondbacks cash him in while he’s healthy?
Anthony Franco
3:44
Still a believer in the bat. Have liked what I've seen the few times I've watched him in the outfield, he moves pretty well out there
3:45
Cautiously optimistic, just hoping for better health luck

How does trade chatter between GM's and Front Offices begin? Are there a bunch of texts and phone calls being put out daily? Are they mass type texts asking who may or may not be available? If a team really likes some obscure type prospect of another team how is that made known? Thanks.
Anthony Franco

They'll reach out individually, not always the GM or baseball ops president running point. They have final say, of course, but teams might have their AGM or a general manager who's second in command in charge of the exploratory talks with other teams
3:48
That can build rapport between the slightly lower level front office staffers with those clubs, they a general idea of what the other front office is thinking, then they can filter that back up to the baseball ops presidents if talks start to develop
3:50
Kind of a similar thing on the obscure prospect question. I remember hearing from someone within a front office that what turned out to be a significant deadline trade involving a marquee name started with one team reaching out about a mid-level prospect they really liked who I'd never heard of at the time
3:51
And actually turned out to be a pretty good player in his own right, to their credit

who do you think the brewers will go after at the deadline? I keep seeing rumors they’ll be in on Skubal, but I don’t see that happening.
Anthony Franco
3:53
Yeah I mean that would be stunning. I don't really expect a huge swing from them but mostly because they're already well positioned and don't really need to. Add a back-end starter with the health questions on Woodruff and Priester (can't assume anything from the latter at this point), and look for a better multi-positional infielder than Rengifo

With all the talk of Miller, Varland's been the AL's best reliever, right?
Anthony Franco
3:56
Yeah, I think he'd be my pick. Aroldis has been the best on a rate basis but the Red Sox don't give him many save opportunities. Cade Smith and Grant Taylor are up there too but Varland's logged a little heavier workload, stepped seamlessly into the ninth with Hoffman's struggles

Who do you see Braves targeting to shore up the rotation?
Anthony Franco
3:58
Still think they make the most sense on Robbie Ray. Casey Mize if the Tigers fall out of it
Farm system is weak enough that I think they'd be outbid on the top controllable arms but they should try to add a rental playoff-caliber starter

Hello Anthony. What do you see the Rays adding for the stretch run?
Anthony Franco
4:00
Need some more offense out of the outfield. Center field would be ideal, but it's tough to find on the trade front. Would make some sense to take a flier on Jake McCarthy
4:03
I still like this bullpen on paper but the results haven't come around -- getting worse lately, if anything. Should be good with Bryan Baker in the ninth but another leverage arm makes sense. Could use a better second lefty than Cam Booser but either handedness works really, just give Cash an extra option at the back end
Who says no?
4:03
Orion Kerkering for Heliot Ramos? And why?
Anthony Franco
4:03
Phillies should be aiming higher than Ramos

4:04
Any truth to the latest rumors that Cleveland is talking to Cincy about Eugenio Suarez?
Anthony Franco
4:05
I haven't seen anything on this. Reds aren't going to pull the plug this early. Ramírez could be back around the deadline and the Guards are in decent shape with Manzardo/Hoskins between 1B/DH. Don't love the fit
4:06
They need a bat but outfield should be the focus
Alright I have to wrap this one here. Not as much time today with the different schedule unfortunately

Happy to take questions on X @affranco10 if I didn't get to yours here
Thanks as always for the questions and for continuing to support the site! It remains very much appreciated
