But he's going to end up with 400+ saves, some chance he gets to 450 and ends up top five all time. Was one of the three best relievers in the game at both age 24 and 38

Who are the "big bats" available at the deadline? Anyone shocking might change hands?
Ruth's Ghost
3:37
Any guess on the bats or SP that would be available at the deadline?  I'm guessing not since it's early and teams are bunched together, but I'm guessing there won't be alot of impact available at the deadline

3:38
Skubal's obviously the big wild card on the pitching front. Joe Ryan, José Soriano
3:40
On offense? Seems unlikely but not impossible that Houston listens on Yordan and Jeremy Peña. If the Cardinals aren't fully sold on the Jordan Walker breakout, this would be the time to sell high. Hunter Goodman's not an elite bat but he's one of the better offensive catchers in MLB and the Rockies should have him out there
CJ Abrams will come up again, obviously
3:41
Will any of those hitters actually move? Probably not, but weird stuff happens at every deadline. Carlos Correa and Mason Miller weren't particularly plausible trade candidates until they were
Buddy Biancalana
3:42
With the division so poor, is there anything the Royals can do to improve the pen and offense?
(not saying they should, but if they wanted to...)

3:45
Agree it'd be ill-advised to be in on rentals. Taylor Ward's an upgrade in left field but doesn't make much sense here. Could be in on Jarren Duran with an eye toward '27 but I'd more so poke around on younger hitters with some pedigree who might be out of favor with their current team
3:46
Vientos and Baty spring to mind. Noelvi Marte maybe? Felt like pulling teeth to get the Reds to bring him back up
3:47
Maybe the Phillies upgrade the infield and put Bryson Stott out there

Even with some recent poor play, I tend to think the Cubs are comfortably in the Wild Card picture. But I don't think this is a go-for-broke roster that warrants the addition of, say Tarik Skubal. But I think there's a needle to be thread, definitely helping the pitching down the stretch but ALSO reloading the rotation for next year (with Imanaga, Boyd, and Taillon departing). Does Joe Ryan make sense here? If so, what does that cost look like? Matt Shaw + Jaxson Wiggins?
Anthony Franco
3:48
With you on Ryan making a lot of sense here. Shaw or Pedro Ramirez as a headliner feels very Twins
3:49
Tough time to trade Wiggins because he's currently on the Triple-A IL with elbow inflammation. If he comes back in July and the stuff looks great, then maybe

Would Logan Webb be available this deadline? What would it take to get him in Atlanta?
Anthony Franco
3:53
Highly doubt it when he's signed for another three seasons but could lump in the pitching version of that Yordan/Walker bucket. If the Giants listened, feels like it'd have to begin with whichever of Ritchie or Fuentes they prefer and add a couple of the Southisene, Hartman types from there

Max Meyer seems to have figured it out.  Is he the ace of that staff?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Tough to argue otherwise right now. Still think I'd rather have Eury long term given the bigger velocity but Meyer was obviously pitching much better even before Pérez got hurt and he's outpitching Sandy too
3:57
No one ever really doubted the talent. Biggest question is whether he'll hold up physically but the only real performance nitpicks were the command and some questions about how the slider-heavy approach would play against LHH
Both of which he's answered

Logan Webb only has 2 years after this year btw
Anthony Franco
3:58
Oh thanks, my mistake. Had it in my head there was a '29 club option for some reason
3:59
Makes it a little more plausible, I guess, but still feels out of step with the Giants' approach coming into the year of throwing a bunch of money at veterans

In the expanded playoffs, do you think we will see a team in the next 10 years make the postseason with a .500 or worse record? We've already had a few teams get in with 83 win seasons.
Anthony Franco
4:02
Could see an 81-81, below that would be tough if we stay at 12 teams. If MLB mounts some kind of successful push for 14, then yeah

Pirates send Bubba Chandler to the Nats for Dylan Crews......who says no?

Hey Anthony! Trade Noot if he’s producing or keep him another season ?
Anthony Franco
4:06
If someone's offering a Donovan-type package for him, definitely move him. He's a step below that for me though, and if the offers are more in the "two prospects ranked in the 10-20 range in our system" area, I'd just hold as long as they're still hanging in the Wild Card picture

Curious about the Lamonte Wade pickup.  Are the Astros looking for baserunners since he has a high walk rate?
Anthony Franco
4:08
He'll definitely walk. Problem is he still wasn't getting on base last year because he did absolutely nothing on contact. Walks can only take you so far if you're batting .167
4:09
It's a fine flier. Making barely more than MLB minimum, they're throwing anything at the wall to get a left-handed hitting corner OF. Not a huge bar to clear to be better than Taylor Trammell

RE: Tatis (kinda) -- It's Nov. 1, 2028 and both Acuña and Tatis are free agents. Which one you signing? (Other things equal)
Anthony Franco
4:10
Right now I'd take Acuña but how they perform in 2027-28 is a pretty big factor haha
Mookie Betts
4:10
Is it safe to say I'm not a superstar anymore?  If so, what am I? Also, are questions "asked from the player / GM's" more likely to be answered?  Thanks!
Anthony Franco
4:12
The 40-HR version is almost certainly gone but I'm still in on him having a few 20+ HR seasons with a .350 OBP and good defense at shortstop
4:14
It's not superstar performance but that's All-Star level and if he gets back to that, I'd still consider him a superstar given what he's achieved in his career
4:15
And no, the questioner name thing is irrelevant. I try not to take more than a couple from the same questioner and spread around teams but that's about it
4:16
Otherwise I'm just taking stuff that I find interesting or is clearly on the minds of a lot of readers because there are multiple variations of the same question
