Anthony Franco

Hey everyone, hope you've all had a good week!
Let's get rolling
Jeff
4:01
If the Blue Jays decide to move Bichette, where do you see him landing?
Bichette
4:01
Ross Atkins has said he won't trade Vlad or Bo -- that means one of them is probably gone (hah). What could the Jays realistically expect in a trade for Bichette?
Anthony Franco
4:03
I take Atkins at his word that he’s not trading Bichette. Guardians and Giants probably make the most sense if Toronto reversed course, but I’d be surprised if that happened
Ryan
4:03
Who are your top trade targets for seattle? What prospects are off limits?
Anthony Franco
4:05
Emerson and Young would be off limits for me. I’d be open to moving anyone else, although I doubt there are any rentals that would get me to move the Lazaro Montes types.
4:06
Alonso makes the most sense to me. Conforto if the Giants fall out of it, maybe Arozarena. They need offense in general but it’s not so dire that they have to get a Bryan De La Cruz type. Feels like it needs to be a real upgrade

Will the real Cincinnati Reds please stand up?  What do you think? Is the April/June version of this team for real? Or will the terrible May doppelgänger return?
Anthony Franco
4:06
I think they’re a slightly above .500 team. The offense in May was way below what this group should be capable of.

What can the Mets do with their bullpen? What's out there?
Anthony Franco
4:08
There’ll be guys out there. Miami’s got some interesting relievers, Detroit as well. Red Sox could move Martin/Jansen. Not sure the Mets will be in position to go out for actual upgrades though
Dusty
4:09
Do you see M Andujar as being someone who can reclaim some of that lustre he had as a rookie Yankee? He’s started off hot but predictable he’s glided closer to earth the last few days. My roto team has gotten a big boost by picking him & David Fry off the scrap heap.
Anthony Franco
4:10
I don’t really see it. He’s got good bat-to-ball skills so I think he can run a decent average but it’ll probably be pretty empty. He swings at everything and is still hitting a ton of balls on the ground.
Ryan
4:10
i know the Rockies say Ryan McMahon isn't on the block, but that could change. Could a package of Ryan Bliss, Cade Marlow and Josh Rojas move the needle at all?
Anthony Franco
4:12
Nah, I like Bliss but that’d be light even if the Rockies had a typical asking price, which they probably don’t. (Passan wrote this week that Colorado owner Dick Monfort loves McMahon.) Marlowe's an extra outfielder, Rojas is going to be 30 and has fewer years of team control than R-Mac does

4:13
Despite recent slump of Matos, would you agree it makes more sense for present and future of SF to give him outfield at bats over Slater?
Anthony Franco
4:15
Maybe for the future in the sense that you get more of a feel for whether Matos can play a role in 2025. But I think Slater's a better player right now, particularly against LHP, so I don't have an issue with them sending Matos down
Joe J.
4:15
I' ve heard Soto only has inflammation in his forearm. Is that accurate?
Anthony Franco
4:16
Yeah Boone just announced it as inflammation. Nothing structural, could be back in a day or two

4:16
if you combined the draft years of 2023 and 2024, where would you rank  Bazzana and Condon?
Anthony Franco
4:18
The draft isn't really my forte, sorry. Just don't have the time to follow college baseball as closely as I used to now that I'm full-time at MLBTR
4:19
I know that Condon and Bazzana are both awesome, but there are people a lot better equipped than me to compare them to Crews/Langford at this time last year

4:19
If the cardinals sell (please do, this season is a wash), what sort of return would they receive fo each of Helsley, Goldschmidt, or Gibson
Anthony Franco
4:22
Helsley should get a lot. He's awesome, power arm, another year of control. Maybe a similar package to the one they got from Texas for Monty/Stratton last year
4:24
Gibby is who is he is. Solid back-end guy, great clubhouse presence. He'd get a mid-level guy, probably a similar story for Goldy unless he really clicks over the next couple weeks. He's been better since the slow start but he still doesn't look like Paul Goldschmidt

Hey, Anthony, a philosophical one for you today.   Wouldn't it be better...when figuring out Park Factor to keep the home team's numbers out of it?  If you have a lousy offense...or a great one...that's going to skew the numbers.  What do you think?  (And thanks again.  Always look forward to these.
Anthony Franco
4:26
I think excluding the home offense is leaving too much data on the table. Separating the park from the team skill is a real challenge, but you can flip the same argument on its head as a reason for including the home team. What if they just have a terrible pitching staff that’ll inflate opposing offenses no matter where they play?
4:27
It’s tricky though. There’s always going to be a margin of error with something like that, which is why most park factor metrics are calculated over 3-5 years. That theoretically filters out some of the noise you’re talking about, but it’s not a perfect solution.
Mets
4:27
Why doesn't the MLB do an international week where teams of 4 go to different countries and play two series? Puerto Rico, DR, Mexico, London, Japan, Korea. Grow the game
Anthony Franco
4:29
This would be really cool. Guessing there are a lot of ownership groups that wouldn't go for it. Higher travel costs, probably leaving gate revenue on the table. It'd be one hell of an event though
Joey
4:29
What might clay Holmes get in free agency this season and will the Yankees match jt
Anthony Franco
4:31
He’s below Hader for me – a little more grounder reliant, two years older – but I think four years in the $15MM AAV range is about right. I’d guess the Yankees keep him around. I know they’re better than most at hitting on under-the-radar bullpen pickups, but Holmes is a special talent.

4:31
Who I the starting pitcher for the al all star team?
Anthony Franco
4:32
I’d go Skubal, but I wouldn’t argue if you wanted Houck, Lugo or a couple others. Crochet, Luis Gil and Flaherty are all right there
Rick
4:32
Now that Henry Davis is back on the Pirates and assuming he can hit up to his potential, do you see him strictly as a catcher going forward or will he gets some outfield play? How about next year?
Anthony Franco
4:33
I’d let him catch for the rest of this season but I think Endy Rodríguez is above him as the long-term answer there. If Davis can hit enough to be a corner outfielder, that’d be a huge boost.

4:33
Can Dillion dinger be an everyday catcher?
Anthony Franco
4:34
Still think he’ll strike out too often to be a regular. He’s looked good in Triple-A so far, but I think a lot of that is generally poor pitching at that level
George
4:35
Hi, Anthony. Happy Friday. With Royce Lewis back from the DL this week, where does Brooks Lee fit in the Twins' plans this year? Correa, Lewis, and Larnach all seem locked into their spots. If he's doing Brooks Lee hitting in a month, they wouldn't bring him up just to sit him with Kyle Farmer on the bench, especially if they're going for a WC berth, right?
