What's wrong with me?  Hasn't anyone else ever gone from hero to zero so quickly?  What's my future hold?
Anthony Franco
5:05
No idea. Never expected him to repeat a 2.24 ERA without missing more bats but the command has completely evaporated. The stuff seems mostly the same – the slider backed up a little bit – but the execution has gone completely awry.

I realize prospect for prospect trades are unusual, but is there one out there the Os could make to benefit the team this year?
Anthony Franco
5:06
Yeah I’m not going to say I expect any of them to happen because they never do. But there’s enough infield depth they could ostensibly try to line up something up there for a pitcher. Jordan Westburg for one of the Dodgers’ starters? Gavin Stone or Emmett Sheehan maybe?

Hi Anthony. Do you think Ethan Salas reaches the majors as a teenager? And who was the last teenage catcher to do so?
Anthony Franco
5:07
I'd guess no but the fact that it's even a legitimate question is a testament to how talented he seems to be
5:08
Pudge debuted at 19. Not sure if anyone has done it since, nobody jumps to mind
Nats Fann

Who could the Nats acquire/deal at the deadline? Maybe Candelario or Corbin out
Anthony Franco
5:10
Harvey and Finnegan feel like viable bullpen trade pieces. Candelario should get some interest. Corbin's contract still feels prohibitive to me

Has Trevor Bauer's performance improved in Japan.  I know several starts were really bad.
Anthony Franco

Haven't followed his start by start progression. He's got a 5.59 ERA, which is down like half a run from when I checked a month ago. 35:5 strikeout-to-walk but a bunch of homers

Re: Harris. Chipper was honest (as usual) on the broadcast last night. He said they’re working to simplify his swing and cut down his leg lift, but basically until he stops swinging at bad pitches, there’s only so much they can do.
Anthony Franco
5:12
Yeah that feels right. The pitch selection has always been the big question. Tools are clearly there to be a good offensive player

Do you think David Ross is seat is getting warmer or do u feel that he is here no matter what happens??
Anthony Franco
5:14
Don't think we're at "midseason firing alert" given how much Hoyer seems to genuinely love Ross, but we're trending towards a noncompetitive season on the heels of a pretty active winter while playing in one of the sport's worst divisions. That's the kind of thing that can sometimes lead to questions about the manager late in the year or over the offseason

Why do you think the Mets will not bring up Mauricio?  Is he not ready for major league play?  Defense?
Anthony Franco
5:15
At some point they probably bring him up to inject a little more into the offense, but he's only ever played the middle infield (where McNeil and Lindor are) and still has real questions about the approach

For some time I haven’t respected Chaim Bloom for his professional style in running the Boston Red Sox.  I understand his choice of business style can be viewed as positive or negative, but his choices of verbal responses to fans and media have I felt at times to be not totally honest , and at time simply brush offs .  A statement made upon sending Corey Kluber to the bullpen in which Bloom repeatedly stated knowing Kluber would turn things around speaks for itself after the former starter’s previous two relief appearances.   Also, I have felt all season that Alex Cora has been lax on discipline towards the Sox players.  A recent statement, defending Kiki Hernandez’s fielding by saying how many plays at shortstop he successfully does make, was irrelevant to the seriousness of the situation.  .  With Kluber being allowed to pitch as long and pitifully as he did last night, I honestly believe Bloom has given up on this season, committing it to another in the 4 to 5 rebuilding years he boasted to bring success.

I don't have an opinion on Bloom's public comments but I disagree with the notion that the Sox are conceding the season. I think they've more so tried to thread the needle of getting more reliant on the farm system while remaining competitive in a gauntlet of a division and they've tended to come up a little short of what they thought they'd pull off

Pudge was the last teenage catcher in the majors.  He also holds the modern record (since 1900) for PA in a season by a teenage catcher with 288.  Only 3 others have even 200 PA in a season as a teen C (Del Crandall, Frankie Hayes, Eufemio Abreu).  Guys like McCarver, Darrell Porter, Johnny Bench, Ted Simmons played, but not much.

There we go! Thanks Dano
Alright that's all I've got time for today. Have to write up that Pete Alonso post for the site
