He hit .233/.294/.450 last year. That feels about right moving forward. Approach is still a question mark. Power should still be there, probably takes it easy in the running game for the rest of the season coming off a broken leg though

Hey, Anthony.  Thanks once more.  Give me some dates, if you will...as to how much more time these teams have to decide whether to push in or fold their cards for 2023.  (For example:  The Royals - April 23rd...just joking, Royals fans.)
But seriously, the Cards?  the Mets?  the Padres?  the Angels?  the Tigers?  the White Sox?  the Red Sox?  And thanks...and sorry this got split between two messages

Cardinals seem to already be there based on John Mozeliak's comments. Tigers and White Sox probably are too, don't think either team has any illusions about how their season's going
4:50
Padres/Angels/Red Sox I'd expect to take it down to somewhere between July 30 and August 1. If the Mets don't get going, I'll say July 25 for them to really try to move Robertson, Pham, etc.

Do you think Kyle Isbel can turn it around?
Anthony Franco

Fourth/fifth outfielder for me

Are the Cubs Buyers or Sellers? I think they are to far to catch up so I see another fire sale. What’s ur opinion? Thanks for the chat

Five games under .500. Seven out in the division despite the best run differential in the group, roughly average roster. Feels like a team that's going to move impending free agents like Stroman, Bellinger and Fulmer and try to reload for '24

If Bryce Harper can successfully play first base do the Phillies roll with internal options in left field (Schwarber at DH) and trade for the best overall addition or focus on a new LF and let Pache and the rest fight for a bench role? Thanks
Anthony Franco
4:52
I think they'd trade for an outfielder in that case
Which might be the best overall addition anyways since the infield trade market looks terrible

Can a veteran with a guaranteed contract volunteer to go to the minor to try and get back on track after a poor first half?
Anthony Franco
4:53
They can agree to be optioned to the minors or accept an outright assignment off the 40-man roster. Almost nobody actually wants to do this though
4:54
The minor league lifestyle isn't as good as the MLB one. Even if the salary's the same, the travel arrangements, hotels, meals, etc. are not
4:55
And most MLB players are very confident in their abilities, which is natural since they're all among the best in the world at what they do. The vast majority of players would rather sort things out at the big league level than go back to the minors if they have a say in the matter

Your take on Emmett Sheehan?
Anthony Franco
4:57
Stuff looks great, efficiency's more questionable. Averaging around five innings per start, few too many pitches outside the zone
Clearly talented (and an awesome 6th-round pick) but not a finished product I'd count on holding a '23 rotation spot while in a battle for the division

Is Enrique Hernandez worth giving a qualifying offer by the Sox?
Anthony Franco
4:57
Definitely not
Its my wedding anniversary and I would appreciat

What sort of players should the cardinals reasonably expect in return for Montgomery? Assuming the return has to be more valuable than the comp pick
Anthony Franco
4:58
Back of the top 100 headliner plus a mid-level prospect or two would be my guess
4:59
That might not sound the most exciting but it's definitely better than the comp pick. Prospects selected after the first round tend to be 40/45 FV types, guys who'd fit in the middle third of an organizational top 30 list. A fringe top 100 talent is a lot more valuable

Hi Anthony. There was a discussion on KNBR last night about 4 former top prospects in the Giants system who have under performed recently and seem to be blocked on major league roster: Bart, Ramos, Villar, and Hjelle. Do any of these guys have much trade value at this time and could they be packaged in some form to address the needs in the infield and the rotation? Thanks
Anthony Franco
5:01
Packaging them doesn't do a whole lot. They're all buy-low guys who'd have some amount of value for different teams, but they're probably not all of interest to the same club. They're also all on the 40-man roster but towards the back of it, so a team that takes on multiple members of that group could have a tough roster decision to make next winter
5:02
As far as the value goes, I'd rank them Bart, Villar, Ramos, Hjelle
5:03
Alright I have to get going. Decent amount of news today that has to go on the site

Thanks for all the questions this week! Sorry for the ones I didn't address. I'm on Twitter and will try to get back to you if you reach out there
We'll do this again next week. Have a great weekend!
