Hey everybody, hope you all had a good week!
3:01
Decent amount of questions to run through as we get closer to the deadline

It makes no sense for the Orioles to be buyers right now.  Agree or disagree?
Anthony Franco
3:02
I wouldn't buy, particularly not for rentals, but I also think they should've played their way out of selling. The Mancini return isn't going to be all that great anyways and anyone else who's notable can stick around beyond this year. I'd mostly hold
Laura
3:02
Is it bad as an O’s fan to still want them to sell? I don’t think they should give up prospect capital now after working so hard to accrue it
Anthony Franco
3:03
Totally defensible to argue that they've been building for 2023 and beyond and should keep their focus on that goal, though

Brewers need help in CF... I have been banging the Ketel Marte to Milwaukee drum for a while.... is a package of Tyler Black and Joe Gray Jr, enough to land him?
Anthony Franco
3:04
Not close. Black's a good hitter but probably not an impact guy. Gray is striking out 35% of the time in High-A and Rule 5 eligible after this year. He's barely a prospect at this point
3:05
Generally speaking, I can't see Arizona entertaining Marte offers anyways. Front office has talked a lot about wanting to build around a group of core players. Marte just signed a team-friendly extension in the spring because he's comfortable there. It'd be pretty incongruous to turn around and flip him a few months later
Injuries Like Rays
3:05
The Rays are basically fielding a AAA team now.  Their farm is stocked but the owner is cheap, so do they have any other realistic path this year outside of just waiting and hoping the injured players can return in August/September?
Anthony Franco
3:06
Ha I respect the name change for this week
3:07
I think there's a path to adding pretty aggressively actually. Don't have to tie themselves down to any long-term commitments, but I certainly wouldn't rule out Sternberg signing off on a few million dollars extra for a Willson Contreras rental or something
3:08
Same sort of logic for Montas or Castillo too. They've got plenty of organizational depth, battling for a playoff spot even as everybody's injured. This feels as good a time as any to consolidate and add an impact player for the stretch run
SFGfan
3:08
Do you see the Giants as a buyer or seller at the trade deadline?
Anthony Franco
3:08
Depends on the next three weeks obviously. If they go 4-10 over their next couple weeks, they'll probably move Rodon and Joc
3:09
That said, I've been pretty optimistic about that team all season and remain so. I think they'll play well enough to hang around the Wild Card race by the end of July and give the front office reason to add
Rick Hahn

I have gotten below league average production from LF, RF, 3B, 2B, & C. Should I just assume that all these players will revert to career norms sooner rather than later?

(White Sox)
3:10
I wrote like 1200 words on this two days ago, so I encourage you to go back and read through that email if you haven't. It's a much more detailed look than I can offer here
The short version is they'll probably have no alternative but to hope for better though. Between the lack of farm talent, high payroll and the mediocre infield/catching trade market this summer it's tough
Jose Abreu
3:11
Could the White Sox trade me? To where? What kind of return?
Anthony Franco
3:11
I can't see any way that happens. They're still right in the playoff mix and Abreu's been a face of the franchise for a while
More likely they extend him, in my view
Bones
3:12
Saw a report that the Brewers we listening on Hader. Chances he get traded and teams likely to be interested.
Anthony Franco
3:12
Yeah I don't really buy it. Feels too cute when you're holding onto a small division lead
3:13
There'd be a ton of interest. Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Twins, etc would all be in, but I don't see Milwaukee doing it

Do the Angels blow the whole management team up?  Nevin, Minasian.  Perry is taking responsibility for this...the lack of depth.  Farm system isn't producing anybody.  Maybe, for once, Moreno brings in a GM with experience?  Yes it's only been two years, but he fired Brad Ausmus after one.  You bring in a new Manager and fire Perry after '23, the guy on the field is already a lame duck.  What do you think, Tony??
Anthony Franco
3:13
Feels too soon to pull the plug on Minasian. I think Maddon was the big leadership shakeup for this year
3:14
Give Minasian a chance to hire his own manager, rework around the margins again and see what happens next year. If they're terrible again and Ohtani walks, then maybe it's time to think about blowing everything up
Bobby Cox
3:15
The Braves have 2 catchers in the all star game, wow! Contreras has been doing great offensively and holding his own defensively. Does he supplant d'Arnaud as the starting catcher? Do the Braves move d’Arnaud in the offseason? Contreras is clearly the future.
Anthony Franco
3:16
Simplest play is just to keep them both. Keeps each fresh, Contreras looks good enough to handle the offensive bar at DH on days when he's not behind the plate
This setup works. I don't see an urgent need to change it
The Blind Guy
3:16
Put derby in order pf how you think it will end. 1st to last.
Anthony Franco
3:17
Tough to rank all eight because there's the whole bracket setup but I'd pick Alonso over Schwarber in the final
And then Pujols last, which would be sad but feels like the easy pick since he's not there based on anything he's done in the last five years
Will

Now that the Yankees are out on Benintendi (due to his vaccination status), do you think that they now pivot to David Peralta (OF - Ariz.)?
Anthony Franco
3:18
I thought Peralta or Ben Gamel were better fits for Benintendi even before
Better fits for the Yankees than Benintendi, I mean
3:19
Now if they're really out on Benintendi for vaccine reasons (and Heyman subsequently walked that report back a little bit), there's always the chance one or both of those other guys falls into the same bucket. Neither has played in Toronto this year so we wouldn't know
Otahni

Will I resign with the Angels
