Right field and a fifth starter still feel like bigger priorities but the latter isn't going to be super expensive prospect-wise so they should be able to land a middle reliever too
3:35
I think Jonathan Bowlan is the direct replacement for the leverage work though and the external acquisition is more to backfill the depth

Aside from the difficulty of getting Arte Moreno to actually allow his FO to sell, what would a realistic package from Boston be to LA to get Zach Neto?
Craig Breslow
3:35
If I offer a package of Kyson Witherspoon, Enddy Azocar and Marcelo Mayer to the Angels do I get their attention on possibly getting Zach Neto?
Anthony Franco
3:36
Don't think he's moving at all and if he does, they should at least demand Anthony Eyanson as a headliner
3:38
Can't see any way the Red Sox are giving up Tolle, Early (pending the elbow thing) or Franklin Arias, but the Angels wouldn't be crazy to stick to demanding one of them for three and a half years of an All-Star level shortstop

Does Cleveland actually do something?  Will their ownership show a care factor?  I think Spencer Steer fits them.  What would he cost?  Any other moves you could see them making?
Anthony Franco
3:40
Steer's fine, sure. I'd prioritize Jake McCarthy if I were them to get someone who can step into an everyday CF role but any kind of league average OF help works. Need a lefty reliever who can throw strikes too
3:41
Should see what's out there for Cooper Ingle. Doubt he's ever going to be up to their standards as a defensive catcher and if they're not going to give him regular outfield run over Kahlil Watson and Petey Halpin, it's probably not happening at all this year
Sam
3:42
Anthony, what do YOU think the Twins should do by the deadline? They're basically right at .500 and can win the division still, but I don't know if they have what they need to go deep into the postseason.
Anthony Franco
3:42
They won't but I'd trade Jeffers, Ryan and Larnach
3:43
I still don't believe in them with that bullpen and the bottom third of the lineup. They've played better than I expected them to, though, and ownership's pretty committed to staying on the periphery of the playoff picture all year
Haha, yes. I am a
3:43
Does Riley O'Brien, assuming he's traded, bring back a top 100 prospect?
Anthony Franco
3:45
I wouldn't give up a prospect of that caliber for him based on two months of him throwing strikes consistently
But I also wouldn't trade him for less than that if I were the Cardinals with where they're at in the standings

what kind of trade value does a. Volpe have? Also do you see G. Lombard playing ss for the Yanks this year?
Anthony Franco
3:46
Yeah I expect they'll give Lombard an audition in September, see if he plays well enough to warrant a spot on the playoff roster
3:48
On Volpe, there's moderate trade value given the prospect pedigree and the defensive grades. He could work for the Braves or as a Rangers stopgap (and move to 2B when Seager returns)
We're obviously past the point where he's a realistic headliner for an impact player though

What do I have to offer to get Freddy Peralta? Is Pedro Ramirez and prospect Diminick Reid enough?
Anthony Franco
3:50
No insight into how the Mets feel about those guys specifically but yeah, that seems like a reasonable offer

What’s wrong with me? Asking for a friend.

The stuff has just slowly regressed every year since 2023. The fastball never had huge velocity to begin with and it's now kind of in that dead zone of average spin where it doesn't have enough to play above barrels at the top of the zone but doesn't really sink either
3:55
He still attacks the zone but can't miss bats with the fastball anymore and the fringe stuff gets hit really hard. Aaron Nola's in a similar spot, have some concern Freddy Peralta's at the beginning of a similar trend

What does Seattle actually do at the deadline? Who should they be targeting? Mason Miller?
3:56
Do you think Castillo moves at the deadline? Who in the most likely to return? Somehow, Spencer steer just "feels" like a mariner to me....
Anthony Franco
3:56
Miller or Morejon make sense, should poke around on Skubal. Big-game hunting on the pitching side in general
3:58
Plus a RHH complementary OF in the Steer mold, agree he's a very Seattle player. Reds have bigger long-term concerns than the rotation that I don't see them trading for Castillo back but they could trade a couple prospects for Steer

Is there any chance of Spencer Torkelson as a change of scenery reclamation project? His AL-leading strikeout rate and shaky defense don’t make up for the occasional homer. Please give Tiger fans some hope….
Anthony Franco
4:00
Haha is it cause for hope if he breaks out somewhere else? I could see them moving on at this point, arbitration salaries are climbing to a point where he's not much of a bargain as a slightly above-average hitter
4:01
Would still be a hell of a lot better than what the Diamondbacks have been trotting out though
Marlins could work and move Kyle Stowers back to LF. Mets with an eye toward '27 wouldn't be crazy
Thinking ahead
4:01
It seems like half the league is floating around .500 and could be talked into a wild card chase. Who from that group with meaningful assets is most likely to realize this is a heavy buyers market and cash in?
Anthony Franco
4:04
Cardinals still but with the Noobaar, JoJo Romero and Dustin May types. San Diego has the biggest chance to really make headlines if they move Miller, Morejon, Michael King, etc.

4:04
how interesting would the deadline be if the Padres lose 8 of 10 and Preller trades everyone?   Miller.  Morejon, Estrada, King,  France.  Adam.     System would be beyond restocked and new owners could refresh the pitching next year.
Anthony Franco
4:04
Yeah, basically this
4:06
Don't even know that they'd need to drop 8 of 10 to get there. They're hanging around because of a strong April but the lineup has underperformed all year and they have one healthy MLB-caliber starting pitcher
4:07
Even if they're only 3-4 games back at the deadline, it'd make sense for the front office to take a "yeah this team kind of sucks" approach and try to restock the upper minors pitching for '27

A Nats guessing game......come Aug 4th who are the following players playing for; Foster Griffin, CJ Abrams, Luis Garcia?
Anthony Franco
4:09
Sure, why not?

Griffin - White Sox
Abrams - Nats
Garcia - Rangers
