Hey everybody, hope you're all wrapping up a good week!
Let's get into it
Mike Rizzo
3:31
Should I trade or resign Josh Bell? If I were to extend him, what type of deal would it take? Or what kind of prospect would I be able to get for him?
Anthony Franco
3:32
Trade him and sign a cheaper first baseman like Jesús Aguilar next winter. Too many holes on the roster to be spending big money on Bell
A couple mid-tier prospects, ideally upper minors arms. Not going to get a top 100 guy in all likelihood, but a 45 FV as the headliner feels doable

I know Jasson Dominguez is not going to be the next Mickey Mantle...yet is it smart to keep him stashed on a minor league roster?  Does he have the chance to be special enough...or would you grab someone like Gunnar H or O. Cruz?
Anthony Franco
3:33
I don't know how many minor league spots your league has but I'd rather have both Cruz and Henderson over Dominguez. A lot less risk with players who are way closer to the big leagues
Madison Bumgarnerco
3:33
The Dbacks reportedly would "love" to move Bumgarner.  He is owed the balance of this year's $23M salary, $23M in 2023, and $14M in 2024 according to Baseball Reference.  What would a trade look like?  How much of his salary would the Dbacks need to consume if they were willing to accept minimal prospect value in return?  Thanks.
Anthony Franco
3:36
More than half, maybe 60%? I think he'd get like 2/16 as a free agent. Kluber got 1/8 last winter, Bumgarner's younger but probably worse
He obviously has the whole postseason heroics thing going for him but I doubt that's of appeal to many front offices anymore since he's pretty clearly nowhere near the same pitcher he was at peak
Derek Lowe
3:37
Should the Red Sox continue to rely on rookies, and hope they injured rotation arms come back soon and strong? Or should they make a move for someone?
Anthony Franco
3:37
I'm fine with waiting on Eovaldi and Sale for the rotation, but they definitely need to add bullpen help
3:38
A lot depends on how long they'll be without Wacha now though. He just hit the IL today. If it's a minimal thing, then just rely on Winckowski and Seabold to get you through the Break and regroup. If he's going to miss a month-plus, then you probably have to add somebody from the otuside

any gut feel on resigning Jake deGrom, heard he might be miffed at the scherzer contract?
Anthony Franco
3:39
I can't see why he'd be mad they paid Scherzer. I still think it's likelier he opts out and then re-signs, tough for me to see Cohen letting him get away

This is from a die heart White Sox fan, I think Jerry Reinsdorf is a very bad owner. He blackmailed Illinois into building a new park which is inferior to other new parks at that time, Chicago is more of Cubs town now than it was 30 years ago, and the White Sox have had very few playoff appearances under his ownership. Your thoughts?
Anthony Franco
3:41
I'm not as well-versed as others on the ownership history aspect of things but my understanding is Reinsdorf was also pretty involved in the 80's collusion that still hangs over labor relations a little bit today
So yeah, my general feel is he's not great but it's not really my area of expertise. Would be an interesting question for Tim actually given his Chicago roots

I picked up Vinnie Pasquantino for my fantasy team.....will he make an impact for me this season?
Anthony Franco
3:42
Yeah I think so. Minor league numbers were awesome, he's making a ton of contact in his limited MLB run so far
Park/terrible lineup around him isn't going to help the counting stats but he should be a pretty good hitter right out of the gate

3:43
Is Oneil Cruz for real and what do you think his upside will be?
Anthony Franco
3:44
I'm probably lower on him than most because I'm pretty skeptical of guys who strike out a lot in the minors
The upside is huge, obviously. There are basically no shortstops with his kind of power, so if he can both make enough contact and stick there, he'd like top five player in baseball good
3:45
It seems likelier that he does only one or neither of those things and is still a good player but someone who's kind of streaky and frustrating

Will the Orioles ever attempt to be a good team again? Will the MASN case ever be settled?
Anthony Franco
3:46
2024 feels like the contention window. Starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel on the position player side. Grayson Rodriguez probably would've been up already had he not gotten hurt
3:47
I have no idea about the MASN case, doesn't seem like it's anywhere close to over

Strider has been outstanding as a SP. Is he on an innings limit this year and what is his long term outlook? SP or BP?
Anthony Franco
3:48
Mark Bowman wrote this morning that there's no firm innings limit. Seems like they'll just keep a loose eye on how he looks
He looks incredible, yeah. I have no reason to believe he can't stick as a starter

What will Justin Verlander’s market look like next year (assuming he doesn’t pick up his player option)? Dude is picking right where he left off in 2019…it’s unreal
Anthony Franco
3:49
Yeah dude's absolutely incredible. I like him at two years and around the Scherzer AAV, so about 2/85. I believe Steve thinks he'll get three, or at least considers it plausible
Dejong
3:49
Will I ever get out of Memphis? Would another team be interested in me? Seems like there isn't any room for me in STL.
Anthony Franco
3:50
He has a .268 OBP in Triple-A, I can't see anyone having interest
3:51
It's unfortunate because he handled the demotion really well and the Cardinals really seem to like him as a person, but I think we may be getting to the point they have to just reallocate the 40-man spot and let him go
Cardinals Catchers

Don't the Cardinals have a real problem there is Molina doesn't return healthy?  Knizner, Herrera, and Romine aren't cutting it.  I doubt the Cubs would want to send Contreras there unless the deal was too good to pass up.  What are the Cardinals' options if Molina isn't healthy at the deadline?
Anthony Franco
3:52
The Cardinals have a problem even if Molina is healthy. He's been awful this season, but they can't replace him for obvious reasons
