Cleveland Rocks!!’n
3:41
Who is Cleveland going to acquire in the offseason to Catch, they need one that can hit at least .200
Anthony Franco
3:42
They'd be at the top of the list if the O's do trade Rutschman. Could try to blow the A's away on Langeliers
3:43
Agree that it can't be Naylor again. Even if they miss on the bigger names in trade, have to at least add a Victor Caratini type in free agency
Carter
3:43
Not a typical question, but why haven’t the Marlins switched back to the old black and teal logo and color scheme? Most of if not EVERY single baseball fan would be for this. Why won’t ownership do it?
Anthony Franco
3:44
Ha I don't know but I agree that the old one was better
3:45
Feels like that's the case for a lot of logo changes in every sport. They switch to an inferior one like 70% of the time

Who in the current Cardinals organization could start in 2026?
Anthony Franco
3:47
Like in the rotation? Gray, Libby, McGreevy, Mathews. Feels like Pallante's better suited in the bullpen. They should add two back-end starters this winter but a Gray, Liberatore, McGreevy starting point isn't terrible

So this new deal with ESPN sounds like it's going to cost me money, or at least require more complication with additional subscriptions. IMO Baseball has mostly been better than other sports leagues in this regard, but why is it still so hard to just watch games a la carte, or be able to define the terms of my subscription(s)? Why is it so hard for the leagues to just sell me their own product through their own websites?
Anthony Franco
3:49
Just more profitable for them to break it up and sell the packages to the networks. They've basically done the a la carte thing with certain markets that were dropped by Diamond during the bankruptcy and just sold those to ESPN. Wouldn't have done so if ESPN weren't paying more for it than the direct to consumer setup was

Robbie Ray and Patrick Bailey from SF to O's for Rutschman this winter. Who says no?

Defenseless Nats
3:51
As a Nats fan, just chiming in on the Nats' defense being turrible. Even Nathaniel Lowe was bad at 1b while he was here. At catcher Ruiz was so bad all around that the decent production from Adams/Millas feels amazing. But one way that I point out the difference a defense can make is Patrick Corbin. In front of the Nats' porous defense he was arguably the worst starting pitcher in MLB. In front of the Rangers' excellent defense he's ... well, not good, but perfectly cromulent as a #5 starter even though his peripheral stats are essentially unchanged (his FIP with the Nats last year was 4.41, with the Rangers it's 4.45). He's actually giving up walks and HRs at a higher rate in Texas, but his BABIP has dropped 25 points. Defense matters.

Corbin's kind of hitting the end of his rope in Texas, but I agree with your broader point. I generally think plus defense is a huge reason that teams like the Brewers, Guardians, Rays have been able to exceed projection models and outperform higher spending teams over the past decade
3:54
And yeah, the Nats are basically non-viable throughout the infield and behind the plate. They've got a lot of work to do and that's a tough thing to address in free agency because that player pool is guys in their late 20s or 30s whose athleticism generally tends to be waning

Has the clock struck midnight on Jacob Misiorowski as a Jacob Misiorowski potential impact arm in the postseason?  His last 3-4 starts have been poor, plus the team has a quick hook to preserve his usage.
Anthony Franco
3:56
Pitch efficiency's been the big question on him throughout his career but I'm not shutting the door on a guy with that kind of stuff making an impact in the playoffs. Just might need to use him selectively in 2-3 inning stints rather than a regular rotation role
3:57
Say Peralta, Woodruff and Priester start the first three games. Having Miz follow Quintana in game four as a tandem start (plus an inning or two in pure relief earlier in a series) could be lethal
David Stearns

How much money should I stop at in the offseason to bring Alonso back or should I pursue him really hardly to try to get him back? What does he want?
Anthony Franco

He'd beat that extension offer he declined if he tops $107.5M over four years. I'd sign up for that if I were the Mets. Wouldn't feel great about going to five years or far beyond the $27M AAV on his current deal
4:02
Something like 4/115 is probably where I'd cut it off, unless the fifth year was just to reduce the AAV and only nudged the total to roughly 120. It might be a little tougher for them to genuinely consider walking away because Vientos is a more questionable fallback at this point, but if he's aiming above 120, I have a hard time seeing it from their perspective

Other than pitching. Do the Angels focus on getting a CF or 3rd baseman this offseason?
Anthony Franco
4:04
They need both but there's no way they don't get someone to play third base. Obviously they're not counting on Rendon to do it and Moncada/Rengifo are impending FAs. They can kind of justify keeping Adell in center if nothing else works there
4:06
Would it make sense for them to sign Eugenio Suárez? Probably not. Kind of feels like an Angels move to me though. They could add a cheaper glove-only CF to either play every day over Teodosio or split time with Adell
Alright I'm sorry to cut it off here but I've got some family stuff to check in on before my coverage shift at 4:00
4:07
As always, feel free to throw stuff at me on X @affranco10 and I'll get back to you there over the weekend
