Terms dropped during the chat so I haven't thought on them. Guess I assumed the number would be a little closer to Baz than Pfaadt because Cavalli's so good, but he's giving up one fewer FA so I guess it makes sense
4:26
Still feels like he should probably be in the $50-55M range but not going to begrudge a guy with his injury history for taking 47 and not haggling over an extra few million

What's up with the Walter probe and the timing?  Will the MLBPA want to talk about it or not?
Anthony Franco
4:27
Just don't think there's much for anyone involved with MLB to do yet. Still hasn't had any direct impact on the Dodgers and no real clarity from the investigators on what's going to happen
4:29
Obviously it's something they'll monitor because it becomes a huge deal if Walter becomes so cash-strapped that he needs to sell the Dodgers to keep these insurance businesses afloat or whatever, but we're not there right now

Assuming Dan Wilson is out in Seattle. Give me 3 names that would be a good fit to manage the Mariners next year.

I don't have strong feelings on e.g. Rocco Baldelli vs. Brandon Hyde or Torey Lovullo if he gets let go, but I'd feel better about any of them compared to Wilson

Should Scott Harris be looking to lock up Riley Greene for a while?  The numbers with and without him are staggering
Anthony Franco
4:33
Yeah he's great but he's already two years from FA, has accrued decent arb earnings and signed for over $6M as the #5 overall pick. Ship might've sailed on that one

Can’t i play CF?  I thought my defensive numbers there were passable.  Makes a big difference for my market value
Anthony Franco
4:35
Yeah I think he'd be fine out there, probably average. Have to hit better than this even as a CF and the arb salary's getting up there though
4:36
I do think a trade's more likely than a non-tender but he's firmly in change of scenery territory either way. They're not getting much for him even if, say, the Astros or Giants do it and put him in center

should I pay for Jeffers or trade for Goodman? which is likelier to provide better value relative to the cost?
Anthony Franco
4:38
I'd rather have Goodman in a vacuum but it's different types of cost obviously: $$ and a draft pick for Jeffers vs. talent for Goodman. If the Rockies are only willing to trade Goodman for George Lombard Jr., Jeffers it is

Should we expect the time needed to reach free agency in the next CBA to be shortened from six years to five? What concession could the owners get from the players in exchange for that if it's not a salary cap?
Anthony Franco
4:39
Literally don't think there is a concession that MLB would accept for that if it's not a hard cap. That'd be a massive win for the players otherwise
4:41
If the union were willing to completely nuke arbitration and everyone played for the league minimum until five-year FA, I'm sure MLB would take that. Players obviously aren't doing that though and I don't think anything else short of a cap is persuasive for the league
4:42
Alright that's all we've got for today. Thanks as always for all the questions!
Happy to take anything on X @affranco10 if you want to throw stuff at me on there

I'm out of town next Friday so I'll probably run the Monday chat with Steve taking the Friday one. In either case, should be on the usual schedule, just might be off by an hour or so
