Feels safe to say it's not going to be Seattle (though they did bring Polanco back after his horrible first year). I'll guess Arizona but there are a bunch of teams that could use a corner OF: Phillies, Nats, Braves, Jays, Astros

I believe Judge is too valuable to play right field. He should be the every day DH next year. Could Rice or Garcia bring back a good 3rd baseman. Which one has more trade value? What would be the Yanks options for 3rd base in this type of deal? Thanks for the chats.

Rice would have monster trade value but the only third basemen I'd trade him for are McGonigle or Caminero (not happening). I'd be floored if they move him

Could flip García but it's not going to be a huge market because he's kind of expensive and a limited defender -- not like they gave up much to get him two months ago -- and I have a tough time seeing a direct match at 3B

D-Backs would probably love García but the Yankees seemed out on Arenado last winter. Don't think the Phillies or Twins would do it for Stott or Brooks Lee

How much do you think the outcome of the playoffs actually impact the CBA talks? Obviously the owners want the Dodgers, the players are probably pulling for Brewers, Rays, Guards. But do you think it actually has a real impact?

I think it's the A's? Their ownership has sucked in many ways but they've given pretty long looks to their top baseball operations personnel, which certainly can't be said of Jim Crane in Houston

Complete wild card with how the Angels will operate once Kroenke officially comes aboard but they're early stages of a rebuild while the A's do have most of the nucleus signed already

Astros would be at the bottom for me. They're the best team right now by far but the window's closing and impatient ownership might mean you have a two-year shelf life there

I think the Giants will be tight-fisted this Winter. But.......The team on field could be ok with Schmidt, Chapman and Adames coming back from injury, the emergence of Eldridge and Cox, decent defensive young catchers plus maybe Bo Davidson cracking the lineup. If they added Bednar and Vesia (in addition to  Randy Rodriguez returning to bullpen) and Imanaga and someone like Mize...........could they be a Wild Card?

Wish I could share the optimism here but they'd basically have to hit on every move you suggested and have all the veterans stay healthy to be a Wild Card team

Everything you suggested seems reasonable (two mid-rotation arms, couple back-end relievers, at least one outfield upgrade). But if you need to hit on five or six outside acquisitions at once to be any good, it's probably not happening

Good afternoon. The Cubs are number one in runs scored, OBP, walks,BA against lefties, most HR's hit and RBI's. Oh, and they have the MVP too.  They are also tops in fielding percentage with likely 3-5 potential gold glovers. That being said, they are also proving that pitching does indeed win championships. They have given up the most homers and thir pitching staff is really not on par with any of the WS contenders. Have you ever seen a team with the best offense and fielding in baseball not even being thought of as a real candidate to win it all? I don't see anyone picking them over the Braves, Brewers, Dodgers or Padres at this point. Moreless over the Yankees or Rays in the WS. Thoughts?

I'd probably have them as the second-best offensive team in the league behind the Dodgers and the #1 defense but yeah, it's remarkable to have this kind of position player talent with a pitching staff this bad

Has to be someone else. This feels like a Gleyber Torres landing spot. I'm not completely burying Moore yet but he's been so bad at the MLB level this year that they can't have him atop the depth chart going into camp

Yeah they'd be at the top from a team perspective if you opened it up to teams like them and Baltimore but those are basically AGM jobs with title inflation so it's a much different pool of candidates when you're still not running baseball ops

Pitching always wins.  It's a reason I weigh your pitching much heavier than bats.  I look at your rotation and pen and as long as you are league-averageish on offense you are fine.  People get excited over adding bats.  Without pitching I don't care about your bats.  There have been BAD offensive teams that have won the world series.  There have been teams at the top or near the top in hitting that have finished last.

Don't know that it's entirely this cut and dried but agree with your general view that pitching is a bigger factor in October since the schedule allows you to run your top arms over and over

Cubs do have the defensive talent to offset that to an extent though. They're middle of the pack in run prevention despite having a pitching staff determined to give up at least one home run per inning

I'm thinking Ralphy Velazquez and David Fry are at first for Cleveland next season.  Does Manzardo have much trade value?  What could they get in return.  I'm not sure if he is a 4-A player or not.  He went from a high contact, doubles guy to someone trying to hit homers and strikes out like crazy.

Would make sense for a team like Texas or Arizona to roll the dice for a mid-tier prospect though. With you that it feels like it's run its course in Cleveland
