Hey everyone, hope you're all well!
4:00
Looking forward to another of these, let's get going
Mark Canha
4:00
Canha is playing really well with the Brewers.  But Milwaukee has lots of good young outfielders.  Is there any chance that Milwaukee keeps Canga next year or alternatively what teams do you think might be interested in acquiring him on a one or two year deal?
Anthony Franco
4:01
I don't think Milwaukee is going to want to take on the $9.5MM difference between the option price and the buyout given their spending habits and the presence of Frelick, Yelich, Mitchell, eventually Chourio as you referenced
4:02
But I think something in the $10-12MM range on a one-year deal for Canha makes sense elsewhere. High OBP, excellent second half
4:04
Decent number of viable fits for him. Yankees could use a left fielder. Dodgers have Peralta and Heyward headed to free agency. Astros could work if they let Brantley go.
Orioles 4th starter
4:04
Who would you choose for 4th starter at this point - Gibson or Means?
Anthony Franco
4:06
Might depend on the opponent honestly. I'd like Means more against lefty-heavy lineups, Gibson if the opposing teams skews toward the right side. In a vacuum, I have more faith in Gibson giving me 4-5 decent innings than Means coming back from the surgery

Am I crazy to think it's possible for the Cards to sign both Golito and Flaherty in the off-season? Maybe getting them together again helps them both get to a new level of compete, like Waino and Wacha had a few years ago. Cards would still need an Ace though.
Anthony Franco
4:07
Feels like the ship has sailed on Flaherty there. No indication they looked into an extension before trading him. That doesn't preclude them circling back obviously, but I'd be surprised if he ends up back in St. Louis
I like the fit with Giolito

AL-only league question: I am in a dogfight to finish in the money and I'm starting a number of mid or worse starters.  Any of these too risky, in your mind?
AL-only question: Any of these upcoming starters too risky in your mind: Littell vs Tor, Woo @ Tex, Kremer @ Cle and vs Bos.  I need wins but also don't want to destroy my ratios in the process.
Anthony Franco
4:09
Kremer has the softest schedule and is generally a fine back-end guy. Depends how desperately you need the win and how close the ratios are, but I'd give him a shot of the three you mentioned
Madag
4:09
How high a ceiling do you think Yanier Diaz has?
Anthony Franco
4:11
Yeah he's a tough one because the scouting questions have always been about his defense. The Astros have played him mostly at DH because they love Maldonado, but it makes it tough to get a read on how well Diaz will hold up when he's presumably given the #1 catching job next season
4:12
Clearly has huge power. Good enough contact skills to produce despite the fact that he swings at everything. If he's even a fringe-average defender, he could have a Willson Contreras type trajectory
Fred
4:12
I'm sure there are other factors, but the new CBA incentives really seem to be affecting when teams call up players.  Do you think this is an equilibrium (on this issue) that both sides can live with, or do you see one side or the other pushing for significant changes in the next CBA.
Anthony Franco
4:13
I think it's fine as is. It has had more of an effect than I'd anticipated. We were starting to see teams embrace early-season prospect call-ups a little more before the CBA, but the promotion incentive has clearly spurred that further
4:15
The PA should be happy and I don't think it's a bad thing for the league. It's not like the league office benefits from teams gaming the service system. Feels like something where the league is kind of agnostic. It mattered a lot to the PA and negotiations are about leveraging the things the other side wants to get something that helps you in return

Where would Shohei Ohtani end up most likely in 2024 free agency?
Anthony Franco
4:16
Giants and Dodgers feel like the cleanest fits to me right now

The Braves offense is certainly awesome but I am concerned ,especially of late about their starting and relief pitching staff which seems to be faltering lately.
Braves catchers not hitting second half of season
Anthony Franco
4:18
I wouldn't be concerned. Strider's awesome. If Fried's blister turns out to be minor -- which they're saying it is -- that's an excellent one-two. Elder was always going to take a step back from his early-season level, since he doesn't miss many bats. Morton goes through ups and downs but generally gets the job done
4:19
If the Fried injury lingers into the playoffs, the rotation gets worrisome. So long as he's back by then, I'd feel fine about the pitching
4:20
Murphy's complete power outage is obviously suboptimal but the glove gives him a high floor and he still has more offensive potential than most catchers

4:20
Starting to be fun again watching Pirates baseball.  Next year hopefully will have Cruz and Skenes all year. Who else should the Pirates try to acquire?
Anthony Franco
4:21
Going to need a first baseman. A Brandon Belt or Rowdy Tellez (likely non-tender) platoon with Connor Joe could work, maybe roll the dice on Garrett Cooper
4:23
Going to have to dip into the rotation market too. Could take a shot on an Andrew Heaney or Luis Severino rebound in a better home park
Manny Lee
4:23
Mitch White's recent AAA numbers are actually looking really good. Could he actually turn it around?
Anthony Franco
4:25
He has been great in Triple-A over his last couple starts but the recent big league track record isn't good. I'm out on him as anything more than a depth guy at this point

What's your prediction for Cody Bellinger this offseason? Seems like a perfect match to return to the Cubs. Also, what do you think he's looking at contract wise?
James Ward Nats Fan 2023 Hope Alive
4:25
Where would Bellinger end up in free agency/Who would win ROY Senga or Corbin Carroll?
Anthony Franco
4:27
I expect Bellinger to get past $200MM, probably closer to $225MM. Young, plays a premium defensive position, tangible change in his strikeout rate to support his strong offensive season. His reps can kind of explain away his 2021-22 production by pointing to the shoulder injury
4:28
I can't see the Cubs going there with PCA and Kevin Alcantara on the horizon. Giants make a ton of sense if they miss on Ohtani, Yankees fit there
4:29
To the second part of the second question, NL ROY is Carroll for me
Senga would be my clear #2 and then there's a bunch of guys (Jones, Alvarez, etc.) I'd consider for the final spot

Is Caminero's promotion an admission by TB that they don't expect Franco back ... ever?
Anthony Franco
4:30
I don't think so. Pretty clear Franco won't be back this season, no guarantee Caminero will be on the major league roster to start next year
