Who pays for an injured player's medical care and health care if he's no longer under contract? For instance, a (poorly performing) pitcher tears his UCL and needs TJ, but is later DFAed or non-tendered. He could've have more than a year of medical bills, but isn't under contract with a team. Does MLBPA pick it up? Or is he just on his own?

If they are injured while employed by a team, that team has to pay.
They can't just cut a guy and escape the medical bills.
If a guy is a free agent, I'm not 100% sure but the union might help out. I think agents might get involved as well.

Michael Conforto needed shoulder surgery while injured a few years ago. Boras probably helped him out with the bills. It would be in his best interest.

Who would you think is the best Jayson Werth type signing fit for the Nats this offseason IF they decide to actually spend money with years attached? Thanks.

I kinda liked them as a Pete Alonso landing spot last winter. That still makes sense to me.

Asked this one during Spring Training and consensus was around 5yr/90mil. Given ensuing events, what would a Michael King extension with the Padres look like? He's one of the few if only FA SPs that might consider a hometown discount--loves Niebla and the park, team kinda unlocked him as a starter, open championship window. But with the injury uncertainty, what would a good extension--agreeable to King and the Pads--look like? It's gotta come in below 5/90 at this point right? Or do they just go QO and live with either the draft comp or a pricey 1yr prove-it contract?

Really hard to say right now because he's been injured for months. If he stays hurt or comes back and isn't great, versus he comes back and has a few good starts before the winter, massive difference.
1:49
Either way, I think he's probably going for a short deal now. Something with opt-outs. Two years, three years, maybe.

What direction do you predict the Twins will go now that the team is off the market?
Darragh McDonald
1:50
Really tough to say. I would guess they sign a few relievers and see what happens in the first half.
Despite the selloff, you could argue there's a competitive team in there. Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Matthews, Festa, SWR, Bradley, Abel, Kendry is a good rotation group.
1:51
The lineup still has Buxton, Keaschall, Royce, etc.
The bullpen was thing they blew up the most. And that's something that can be rebuilt.

The Orioles will likely have a high first round pick along with a Comp A round pick.  If they sign a free agent with a QO, for more than $50million, what picks will they lose?  Are the rules different for teams that receive a Comp A or B pick?
Darragh McDonald
They would lose their third-highest pick.

Is there any hope for Henry Davis?
Darragh McDonald
1:52
Man.
1:53
There's hope in the sense that he has always crushed at Triple-A. But I don't know if I've ever seen such a big split.
1:54
.316 .417 .548 line in Triple-A. .183 .271 .298 in the bigs.
But now that major league sample size is bigger. 578 plate appearances, compared to 346 in Triple-A.
1:55
I don't have a ton of hope, but if he breaks out someday, you could say the signs were there.

I'm a GM and I want to do a 3 team trade... Do I tell team A that I'm going to flip the guy I get from them to team B? What if I don't tell them and their player went to a team they didn't want to be in the picture?
Darragh McDonald
1:56
I don't know if it always work like this. But there was a story about the Mason Miller talks recently. Supposedly, the order of operations went like this...
1:57
The Padres said they were interested. The A's said "you don't have the prospects." The Padres said "Tell us what prospects you like on other teams and we'll go get them." The A's said no because they didn't want to overcomplicate things. That's when the Padres put De Vries on the table.

What managers and front offices do you think are on the hot seat heading into the off season?  Could both the Mets and Yankees make changes if they don't make the playoffs?  The Blue Jays have been a great story, but does that change if they don't at least win a playoff game?  Anyone else?

Really appreciate the chats and the podcasts... In your opinion, who are some of the best managerial candidates to fill vacancies likely to appear in the offseason?
Rangers MGR Future?
1:58
As much as I want Bruce Bochy to stay next year and beyond, he has been quiet on his future. If Boch decides to hang’em up, who do you think is the best fit for the Rangers? And if you think they have another idea, who do you think they would hire to take the helm in ‘26?

I doubt the Toronto guys are still in the hot seat. Another playoff loss would piss off the fans, but ownership has to be happy with the business side of things. The stadium is full. TV ratings are presumably great. Etc. Even the on-field results are pretty good. 2024 was a nightmare but the team has otherwise been a 90-win team since 2020. Tough to do in the AL Beast.
2:01
I wouldn't be surprised about Boone getting the axe. Kinda felt like he was on the hot seat after 2023 but he saved his job by going to the World Series in 2024. If they fall out of the playoffs again, he might need to be the sacrificial lamb.
I'd be stunned if the Mets made any changes. Mendoza just got the job before 2024 and his first year was great.
2:03
Maybe Baldelli? Snitker? Cherington? I don't know. I feel weird speculating about people's jobs but I guess that's part of the gig for them.
As for the candidates to step in, there's usually some former managers who get mentioned. Showalter seems to always be around. But teams usually hire some guy who is currently a bench coach.

Do the Braves bring back Albies for 2026? I seems a no brainer, because is a 3 M net decision and, albeit a recent hot streak, he is not the player he was, plus second base is one of the few places the Braves can get better.

Why doesn't Atlanta rebuild? Anything short of Sale, Strider, Schwellenbach, Waldrep, and Lopez being the best rotation in baseball next year would make the team not good enough to win

The Braves are really in a crossroads for next season, don't you think? They rest the CBT tax, so they IN THEORY should be able to spend comfortably. The thing is that most of the core of the team is sign long term and they don't usually are big spenders in free agency.
Darragh McDonald

I don't think they could rebuild. As you mentioned, they have so much money committed to so many guys. I don't really think they should either.
2:07
The rotation and lineup could be good next year with better health, which you would have to hope for.
