Hello, everyone.
We've had to shift the schedule around a bit this week, so I'm filling in for Anthony and doing the Front Office chat, slightly earlier than usual. Sorry for any inconvenience.
I'll be back at noon Central but feel free to drop questions ahead of time.

Okay, hello. Happy Friday, everyone.
Barker's perfect game

What are the odds that Travis Bazzana makes it to the show in 2025?
Darragh McDonald
1:01
Uhh, 15%?
1:02
He's 22 years old. There are younger guys in the majors, so it's not impossible. But he's also only played at High-A so far.
He could make a quick climb, but he'd have to not hit any speed bumps in terms of health or performance.

Would a 1/1 trade of Adolis Garcia work for the acquisition of D.Williams, K.Finnegan, S. Dominguez, or Matsui? If not wh would Texas need to add?
Darragh McDonald
1:04
I think the valuation is probably within range but some of those teams with relievers will be looking for something else.
The Brewers usually trade for controllable guys but Adolis only has two years until free agency.
1:05
The Nationals are seemingly going to pivot into win-now mode but probably want something a bit more controllable as well, since their window is just opening.
1:06
The Padres seemingly don't have a ton on payroll space, so it's hard to say if Adolis would fit.
1:07
Orioles, I can see the fit there. They did just acquire Seranthony but are getting Felix back and they want a righty swinging outfielder to replace Santander.

Darragh, are there realistically any teams who would trade for Nolan Arenado?  Incredible career, but the contract and the last couple of years performances make it difficult to see who might.  Plus the no-trade clause...
Darragh McDonald
1:07
Teams will want him, sure.
1:08
His offense has dropped the past couple of years but he's still been a 3-win guy from the defense.
For the contract, I don't see why the Cards can't eat a bunch of it in order to make it more attractive for the other club.
1:09
I know the Cards are cutting payroll but RosterResource projects them for $147MM in 2025. They were at $183MM. They are already way under. They might trade, Helsley, Romero, Fedde, Matz, etc.
1:10
$183MM in 2024, in case that's not clear.
Point is, even if they eat money in their trade talks this winter, the budget is still going to be way down.

Which direction do you see the Brewers going to address replacing Adames' production? Will they sign/trade for a SS, 2B, or 3B? They are open at every position as Turang or Ortiz could easily slide into the SS role full-time. Those two were so good at 2B/3B maybe it's preferred to keep them there, but the SS market is pretty weak this offseason.

I think either Ortiz or Turang will take over. Both were shortstops previously and got good defensive grades at third and second, respectively. Seems like either could move back to short and be good there.
That does open another hole, but it's easier to find a passable guy for second or third.
1:13
That could be external or internal. Tyler Black has played some third base and they've toyed with moving Frelick there.

I liked the idea of that q and a but rhere was way too much wasted time that I turned it off.

Okay, thanks for the input. It was our first one, so it will surely evolve as we do it again, which we are hoping to do.

What could the Cubs get from the Mariners in return for Nico Hoerner? (Knowing that his injury diminishes his value.)
Darragh McDonald
1:16
In this specific scenario, probably lower-level prospects. Reading the tea leaves on some comments coming out of Seattle, it seems like they want to leave the major league roster fairly untouched.

With Hal stating a $300 million dollar payroll is not sustainable, what could the Yankees do additionally money wise if they do sign Soto to say a $650 million deal?
Darragh McDonald
1:18
They're getting $15MM by letting the Rays use their spring training facility next year. Problem solved?
Here in Toronto, I've heard that Blue Jays' ownership has given the front office a Soto budget and a non-Soto budget.
1:19
I wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees had something similar.
It's possible there's money for Soto, but that money wouldn't necessarily be redirected to other players if Soto signs elsewhere.
1:20
As for what they could do if they want to stretch, they could probably get rid of some of the Stroman money.
1:21
Only two years until DJLM is off the books. Three for Stanton. Four for Cole and Rodon.
After 2028, it's just Judge.

Sorry. I hit the enter button too soon.  By "wasted" i mean time that was not productive for what I wanted out of it.   Yes, that is a "me problem" but I was hoping to provide feedback to you wonderful people.  Thank you so much for all that you do.
Darragh McDonald
1:21
Okay, thanks, Kirt!

Someone else did tell us that we should have been more brief and therefore answered more questions, so you're not alone there.
