How much of a commitment would it take for the cubs to be reunited  with David Robertson and do you think the cubs would have much competition?
Darragh McDonald
1:24
Robertson turns 40 in April, so he's limited to one-year deals. He already has been, in fact. He has signed one-year deals in three straight offseasons now.
We predicted $11MM for the Top 50.

Any chance the Giants get Sasaki?
Darragh McDonald
1:25
Every team technically has a chance.
Financially speaking, no club will have any real edge. Each of the 30 teams can only offer him a few million.
Sasaki will be deciding where to play for non-financial reasons, and we can only really guess what those might be.
1:26
Some have suggested he would love to be with the Dodgers because they already have a couple of Japanese guys that he knows. The club is also very successful at developing pitchers and just winning in general.
1:27
Others have suggested Sasaki might prefer to be somewhere away from those guys so that he can have more of the spotlight and therefore more endorsement money. The Padres have been floated as a possible fit since Sasaki is apparently close with Darvish.
I don't know if there's anything specific that would give the Giants an edge over those two but I also can't really rule them out.

Why do so many always mock the Ms trading from their rotation and claim there’s a surplus? The Ms have absolutely no pitching depth in their upper minors, so unless the idea is pitching a bullpen game every fifth day, this idea doesn’t seem to make sense in a vacuum. Thanks!
Darragh McDonald

Yeah, this is fair. And both Dipoto and Hollander have both essentially said as much.
But Seattle also has trouble luring free agent hitters to Seattle and kinda has to trade for them, so I don't blame people for dreaming up possibilities.

Thanks for doing the video chat yesterday. How do you see playing time working out for Jordan Walker and Nolan Gorman moving forward with St.Louis ?
Darragh McDonald
1:29
I'll be hoping that an Arenado trade allows Walker to move back to third base. He's been rough in the outfield, so that's probably the best thing for him.
1:31
As for Gorman, they can probably give him playing time at second if they think the bat can turn around. If they're not really trying to win, might as well throw him out there and see what happens. Donovan can bounce around the diamond in a utility role.

what are the chances of Roki Sasaki signing with the Red sox? what are the chances Red Sox trade for Crochet and what do you think they will give up for him?
Darragh McDonald
1:32
My Sasaki answer would be similar to the Giants one from a few seconds ago. As for Crochet, I think there's a good fit there.
Boston wants to upgrade the rotation. White Sox want position player prospects, which the Red Sox have.
1:33
As for the return, with a guy as good as Crochet, it will need to hurt.
At least one of the Big Four has to be the headliner, I'd think.

Hey Darragh, fun times yesterday with the Video Chat, I know you follow the Jays, what would you put their percentage at to sign Soto and extend Vlad?? Thanks for doing this bud!!!
Darragh McDonald
1:34
My pleasure!
1:35
For Soto, I don't know. 5%? I feel like they're going to make a genuine push but the New York teams will be pretty motivated to not let it happen.
1:36
Vlad, probably a bit better chance there. He's basically in the same spot Devers was two years ago. A year away from hitting free agency at a very young age. But the Red Sox put the money on the table and he stayed.
So, I don't know. 50/50 there?

When do you expect things to pickup
Darragh McDonald
1:36
Depends what you mean, I guess.
Next week is both the Rule 5 deadline, the QO acceptance deadline and the non-tender deadline.
1:37
We will definitely have a lot of activity. A few trades. Maybe Nick Martinez or Nick Pivetta sign somewhere.
But if you mean, like, Soto or Burnes or Bregman signing, early December would be my guess.
1:38
Winter meetings are December 8-11. A lot should happen there, as well as around those meetings.

On a side note how does Anthony have a law degree??? He looks like he cannot be more than 19 years old, LOL
Darragh McDonald
1:38
Haha. He is a wunderkind.
1:39
I think he finished school and then just start baseball blogging instead of following through on the law stuff. Amazing how wise he is for his age. Pretty impressive brain in there.

After “losing” to great players in Contreras and Langeliers and being stuck with albatross Murphy is it really conceivable Atlanta would trade Baldwin?????
Darragh McDonald
1:40
I don't see why they would trade him now. Their confidence in Murphy has to be a bit low at the moment, so they're surely hoping Baldwin can come up and be in the mix this year.

Not sure about the "wasted time" comment about the Q and A yesterday. I enjoyed it immensely. I was sorry that my dog needed to walk and I had to beg out a bit early. Nice to put faces with names and voices. I hope you do it again.
Darragh McDonald
1:40
Thanks, Bob!
1:41
We do plan to do it again, but it was also our first time trying it. We didn't expect it to go perfectly on the first go, so we appreciate the feedback.
