I was also surprised but his strikeout rate has been way down the past two years, so I guess teams are a bit worried by that.
On Atlanta, I think there's still a good core there if the injured guys bounce back.
2:05
Add a shortstop and some pitching and I think they'll be good, unless the injury bug is all over them again.
2:06
RosterResource has them at at tax number of $192MM. They could add almost $50MM without going over the line, so I think they could be aggressive, yeah.

Skubal to LAD.  Will Sheehan, Freeland and Jackson get it done? Thanks
Russell
2:06
What trade package gets Skubal to Seattle?
Darragh McDonald
2:06
I don't expect Skubal to be traded.

Total guess here, but my expectation for the offseason is the Giants will spend a lot on pitching and might need to get creative with how they fill their hole in right field. (I disagree with ppl saying that second base is a serious need as Casey Schmitt was essentially a league average player last year and they have bigger fish to fry) They sucked against left handed pitching and their outfield defense was bad across the board after they traded Yaz. What good right field options are out there that can play plus defense and mash lefties?
Darragh McDonald
2:08
The Giants could go after Tucker. That would be a nice solution in right field.
2:09
Guys who hit lefties and would be far cheaper: Miguel Andujar, Randal Grichuk, Austin Hays, Rob Refsnyder and Austin Slater.
Off the top of my head, I assume Hays is the best defender of that bunch, but maybe the data disagrees.
LAD-R Ward
2:09
Added to the 40-man but when they needed a LF they went to Dean?  Come on
Darren
2:09
The Dodgers adding Ward to the 40 man now seems odd. They refused to give him a shot and what makes them think teams will trade for him now?
Darragh McDonald
2:10
By all accounts, Ward is a poor defender. Dean was on the roster but was only used a late-game defensive replacement. Ward would not have been good for that role.
2:11
They added him to the 40-man now because he would have become a free agent otherwise. They didn't want him to get away. Finding a role for him will be tough. As mentioned, he's a poor fielder. The DH spot for the Dodgers is locked up by some guy named O'Tawny. Irish maybe?
2:12
Maybe they think Ward has some trade value but he could also just be a bench bat who gets called up once in a while.

Do you have any thoughts on what the Royals might be able to do this offseason to improve in the outfield? Is resigning Yastrzemski and hoping for improvement from Caglianone, Rave and Massey the extent of what you expect? If not, what other moves do you see as real options?

Odds of Royals signing a significant offensive player and if so best guess as to who?

What will the Royals do on offense
Darragh McDonald
2:14
I don't think they have a lot to spend. Per RosterResource, their payroll was $140MM this year and is projected for about $140MM next year. Owner John Sherman recently said he expects the payroll to stay about the same.
2:15
A few non-tenders or trades could open up some cash to re-sign Yas but I'm not expecting much more than that.

In the possible scenario that Grishman and Belli both leave the Bronx, what is the Yankees plan for LF and CF?  I can see them signing an Austin Hays type to platoon with Dominguez in LF, but what are the options for CF?  Fans who want to see Spencer Jones assume that he will be productive from Day 1, which is a huge and unfounded assumption.
Darragh McDonald
2:16
Yeah, I don't think they can just assume Jones is going to jump in and be the starting center fielder from day one.
2:17
If they really like Jones and think he has a strong shot and winning the job, they could go cheap, getting guys like Jose Siri or whatever.
I think a better hedge would be to re-sign Bellinger. He really took advantage of the short porch this year. He's probably not a real everyday center fielder but he could hold it until Jones is ready and then move to a corner when it's time.

Is there any chance Jesus Made is in the majors at some point next season?
Darragh McDonald
2:19
A chance? I suppose, but I wouldn't bank on it. He doesn't turn 19 until May. He has reached Double-A but only played five games there.
2:20
But he'll likely be starting next year at Double-A, so there's a scenario where he mashes his way to Triple-A by midseason and is pushing for a call-up in the second half. Definitely possible but I don't think it's wise to expect an exceptional scenario like that.

If you were told today that CJ Abrams was traded, who would be your guess on the acquiring team and what would your guess be the return for the Nats?
Darragh McDonald
2:23
Rays, Pirates, Brewers, Yankees and Giants are a few clubs which make sense.
2:25
As for the return, Abrams is one of the toughest values to peg right now. The defense isn't good, so he's probably destined for second base. His offense has been really good in the first half of the last two seasons, then with big drop-offs. Is that a fluke? Is there a reason for it? I really don't know.
It could perhaps be something like what the Yankees gave up to get Jazz from the Marlins.
2:26
That was Agustin Ramirez, Jared Serna and Abrahan Ramirez.
2:28
Agustin was a borderline top 100 guy at the time. Serna was sort of #15ish in the Yankee system at the time of the trade. Abrahan was still a teenager and was more of a lottery ticket.

2:28
With focus on retaining Grisham and Bellinger shows me the Yankees are giving up on Jason Dominguez. I think it’s ridiculous and needs to be played everyday, Tell me I’m wrong?
Darragh McDonald
2:30
I don't know if they're giving up on him. He's not even 23 years old yet. But at the same time, it would be kind of hard to commit to giving him an everyday job. His defense is awful and his bat was league average this year.
Greg
2:32
Minnesota looks to be a contender if they make a few moves. Sign Joe Ryan long term, bring in a 1B and add at least two pieces to the bullpen. Can you see a world where ownership reinvests to winning instead of further rebuilding?
Darragh McDonald
2:32
I don't know if they are a few moves away from being a contender.
2:33
I did find it interesting that they targeted MLB-ready guys in their deadline deals.
2:34
However, I think the plan is for 2026 to be a kind of evaluation year. You can give lots of playing time to Royce, Abel, Taj, Keaschall, Roden, Brooks Lee, Zebby, Festa, SWR, Walker Jenkins, Emmanuel Rodriguez, etc. Then they can decide if they think contending in 2027 is realistic, based on how all those guys do.
