You can debate whether that's an exercise which should even take place, but it's a helpful shorthand.
1:22
In 2015, Andrelton was worth 3.1 fWAR. That made him roughly the 70th most valuable position player that year.
1:23
Harper and Trout tied for the lead with 9.3 fWAR each.
1:24
Again, it's not perfect, but it is helpful in quickly illustrating "this guy is elite" and "this guy is pretty good" and "this guy sucks" and whatnot.

There's lots of room for debate and different websites have their own formulas, so it's not an exact science, but it's useful for starting conversations.

Has the bye, overall, been an advantage or disadvantage for teams?
Darragh McDonald
1:27
This is a very interesting question.
1:28
Mike Petriello had a piece on this a year ago, without reaching any definitive conclusions.
For me, I would take the bye every time.
The idea of losing momentum is interesting but hard to qualify.
1:29
The thing for me is that the baseball playoffs are chaotic. Crazy stuff happens. Good teams lose to bad teams all the time.
1:30
A team will crush homers all year and then have three homerless games and the season is over. Or a team has a dominant bullpen all year long, but then they choke twice and it's golf time.
1:31
To win it all, you have to survive four separate series without a crazy thing taking you out. Getting a bye drops that to three, so one less chance that a crazy fluke thing destroys your soul.

Have the Cards ruined any hope for Jordan Walker to stick on the club with the oddly public comments about his training approach? Could they get anything out of a trade at this point? Maybe a couple lottery tickets from the Braves?

The Cards are weird about this stuff, aren't they?
Marmol dragged Tyler O'Neill a couple of years ago.
1:32
They signed Willson to be their catcher and then jerked him around, made him DH only for a while, then put him back behind the plate again. Now he's just a first baseman.
I don't really know what to make of it.
1:33
Though with Walker specifically, whether he's traded or not depends on what Bloom thinks of him.
1:34
He probably still has a bit of value since he has an option left and is only 23, but it's not great.
1:36
Okay, I've got to pivot to news coverage.
1:37
Sorry for all the questions I couldn't get to.
As far as I know, Anthony will be back next Friday. And Steve should also be doing another Front Office chat at some point.
Thanks as always for supporting the site! You folks are awesome!
