Ok, draft day! Let's get going

Will there steelers  be trading Highsmith  the next day or two ?

Hey Walterj, I'm going to say no here. It would make sense for the team to consider it, but barring a major offer, it doesn't look like the Steelers are eager to deal from their OLB surplus.

This certainly does not mean he won't be dealt at some point, but I expect the team to keep its Watt-Highsmith-Herbig trio together for the foreseeable future before reassessing

Do you agree with the pre-draft predictions that Akheem Mesidor will be the fifth Canadian ever taken in the first round of an NFL draft? How how do you think he might go?

I'm going to credit Canucklehead here. This is a stat I did not know. Solid work! This is a somewhat crowded EDGE crop. Even though we don't look to have a Myles Garrett- or Will Anderson Jr.-like prospect in this year's field, many first-round options are here.

The top three look set -- Reese, Bailey (potentially flipped, depending on the Jets' preference) and Bain. After that, it gets murkier. Mesidor falls in that tier featuring T.J. Parker (Clemson), Cashius Howell (A&M) and Keldric Faulk (Auburn). Late buzz on Central Florida's Malachi Lawrence has also emerged. I still see Mesidor going in Round 1.

Were Mesidor set to play an age-23 season and not an age-25 campaign as a rookie, he would be a lock first-rounder. Some teams even see him as better than Bain. Being a first-rounder would make his fifth-year option season an age-29 slate. That will complicate a second contract. I still say late first round. It would almost benefit him long term if he was a second-rounder, though, due to the option aspect

Could good teams leverage 2027 fist rounders for more value than traditional trade charts suggest? If Love fell to Miami at 11 would #32 and the 2027 hawks first rounder be enough to move up?

M's Fan, this is a cool concept and it should be monitored. Teams have been leery about giving up 2027 first-rounders. We won't know that draft's makeup truly for almost a year, but eight-plus months before the college offseason, it is safe to say it will be a better class than 2026. But the same NIL-type issues in play this year will affect the group's depth.

I'm not sure how valuable, then, a Seattle 2027 first will be due to their 2026 expectations. Will a team be canceling plans for a pick outside of No. 25 in 2027? That said, the Dolphins -- based on their rebuild timeline -- would have to think about that.

The Seahawks would be best served considering someone besides Love in this scenario, though, as he is almost definitely not escaping the top five. Looking at how close teams protect 2027 picks tonight and tomorrow will be fascinating, though.

FWIW, John Schneider has never traded up in Round 1 in 16 drafts as a GM. And he has said he wants to move down again to accumulate more picks

Hi, thanks for the chat. If the Patriots don't land AJ Brown in a trade. Where should they turn for help? And how much is too much for AJ? The Patriots have needs in many areas. Trading picks for a high salary player at this stage of the rebuild is concerning to me.

You're welcome! First off, I think we have to remove "rebuild" from the equation here. You can't make a Super Bowl and continue to be referred to as a rebuilding. Though, if we ever could give a team that label, it might be this Pats nucleus based on the circumstances that drove them to SB60.

If Waddle fetched first- and third-rounders, the Eagles will be emboldened to hold out for at least a 2028 first and something else. Maybe a 2028 first/2027 third could get it done based on Brown's $$ and higher-maintenance M.O. At the very least, two Day 2 picks will be required. And I'd be surprised if the Eagles went for that.

The Pats going with a Round 1/Round 2 WR this year would seemingly short-circuit a Brown move. Based on how much smoke is present, I doubt they do that. If they hold firm on Brown and avoid an early-round WR pick, Jauan Jennings and Deebo Samuel are available. The trade deadline also could come into play if this Brown push fizzles

Do you think Jermod McCoy will be a first-rounder even with the concerns over his knee?
Sam Robinson
4:46
Volunteer Vic, I'm on the fence about this. We have seen similar drops for CBs with injury concerns -- Will Johnson and Shavon Revel come to mind from last year -- and the Titans' 2021 first-round bet on injury-prone Caleb Farley backfired (being one of the final straws for GM Jon Robinson).

Based on how much has circulated, I think he is far from a lock to go in Round 1 now. Teams eyeing McCoy and being ready to overlook his knee trouble could be driving this campaign about concerns, in hopes he'll slip to at least late in Round 1. This is a highly talented CB with a sub-4.4 40, but I'll now lean no on whether he will be a first-rounder.

Do you have a favorite sleeper prospect this year?
Sam Robinson
5:02
Mickey (strong Little Big League reference here; apologies, of course, if this is your real name)...maybe Ohio State TE Max Klare. Adding him in Round 3 could be pretty good value. Josiah Trotter was a first-team All-SEC linebacker as a Mizzou sophomore. Getting him in Round 3 would be intriguing as well. And what if Nussmeier's 2025 issues were more injury-driven? Not sure I buy into that completely, but it's something to watch.

Ok, we'll call it there on this busy day. Enjoy the draft, everyone and have a good weekend!
