Hey everyone, hope it's been a good week. Let's get started

Who will be the odds man out in the steelers  QB room ?
Sam Robinson

Hey Walterj, carrying four should not be viewed as out of the question. The team could also use IR as a tool here, as it did with Howard to start last season (this is, of course, presuming Rogers re-signs).

I would still think the Steelers want to have an experienced backup for a 42-year-old quarterback. That would bode well for Rudolph. But he and Will Howard, if a conventional three-man QB room is the ultimate aim, will be competing for a job.

I'll say Howard since Drew Allar has arrived during Mike McCarthy's tenure. Even though McCarthy offered encouragement for Howard upon arrival, carrying two backups with no experience is a bit risky. That said, if Howard clearly outplays Rudolph in camp, then keeping him as a developmental flier and rolling the dice on just he and Allar as backups would be in play

Where do you think Bobby Wagner will sign? He can still play at a high level.

Got me again, Gene...I see a few possibilities assuming Washington will be content to go with Chenal and Styles.

The Bengals are desperate to end their playoff drought and have made moves to do that (while appeasing Joe Burrow) with Lawrence, Mafe, Allen and Cook. Cincy has left LB untouched, however. And it's an apparent need. I think Wagner would be a fit to help their young LBs develop.

What about a return to L.A.? Wagner is a native of the area and collected one of his zillion All-Pro nods in 2022 as a Ram. He was with the team during a down year, but now that a big Stafford Super Bowl window is open, there looks to be a fit.

A couple of others may be logical, but those two jump out. Wagner remains a productive ILB and should have an opportunity to chase another title soon. He also may be waiting for a contender injury, but certain win-now teams should be interested regardless already

Do you agree with the Jags trying Hunter mostly at CB? They need to figure out the right balance for him to not wear down every year
Sam Robinson

Doug, I do. I viewed that as his better position coming out. Some teams agreed, with execs last spring seeing the ex-Colorado star as a higher-ceiling CB than WR. I was not overly impressed with Hunter as a receiver (his 100-yard game against the Rams came in a blowout loss), though we obviously have a limited sample size. And it is clear the Jags weren't, either, seeing as they're already reversing course.

The team also let Greg Newsome walk in free agency. Hunter teaming with Montaric Brown and slot Jourdan Lewis is sensible, and no CB arrived here in the draft. A role as a CB regular and auxiliary (at best) WR alongside Thomas and Meyers is logical.

The Jags need to stick to a plan this time around. Otherwise, this unique player's developmental arc could be thrown off.

Who has the more concerning pass catchers of all likely Super Bowl contenders? Washington? Buffalo?
Sam Robinson

M's Fan, for those two, I'd choose Washington. I'm a Khalil Shakir guy, so him as a co-No. 1 alongside Moore and Kincaid I think will work better than their previous post-Diggs setups. Until Aiyuk arrives, Washington has a need (again) alongside McLaurin.

The Patriots (if they don't land A.J. Brown, which I expect them to) come to mind. If a Brown deal hits a snag, the team probably needs one more WR to complement Doubs, who is certainly more of a No. 2 option. I'm not sure the Colts are a true contender, but they traded two WRs since last year's deadline and did not address the position in the draft until Round 7. They could use an auxiliary option at least

Hi Sam. Seeing the value of that Jeremiah Love contract is crazy for a "non-premium position." Do you think they made the right pick or was it another bad move by a bad franchise? Thanks.

Hey Roger, that is a monster guarantee. $53.9MM checks in almost $20MM north of Saquon's previous RB high-water mark. Love is now on his own tier here; only six WRs secured that at signing.

If you're going to pay a running back that money, he needs to be Barkley-level with 2018 Barkley-like receiving usage. He also needs to have minimal wear and tear. The Cards at least checked that box, as Love only turns 21 this month.

My primary issue here was Arizona's roster makeup. This is not a team that is one RB away, and we saw last year in Vegas how a shaky foundation can limit a top-end RB prospect. I would have gone Reese if I were at 3. The Cards attempted to trade down, by all accounts, but did not love the offers. And if murmurs of Bidwill eyeing a flashy weapon to boost ticket/jersey sales are  correct, yikes.

Gotta feel bad for Allgeier, who was a 1,000-yard rookie only to see the Falcons draft Bijan. He was set to complement Conner (at the very least) but now sees his role cut into significantly

What would be fair value on a Bryce Young extension? Should the Panthers stick to waiting one more year before signing him?
Sam Robinson
3:59
TD-Machine, the Panthers should probably wait. They could act early and attempt to have a long-term QB on a discount, but overcommitting to a largely unproven player carries more financial risk. Rewards from a potential discount do not outweigh the risk missing on a pricey QB contract. Just ask the Dolphins on that one.

If the Panthers were to try and extend Young now, a shorter-term deal between the Mayfield/Darnold tier and Daniel Jones' $44MM number may be a compromise. But how can the team be especially confident in what it has at this point? It might cost more than $50MM AAV to extend Young in 2027, but a coaching staff that did not draft him needs to be sure any extension will not be a payroll-crippling commitment like Tua's was.

Big guarantees are coming, as this is a QB contract, whether the deal occurs in 2026 or '27. More certainty will be critical there.

With that, we will wrap for today. Thank you for the questions, everyone. Have a good weekend!
