Hey everyone, another second-rounder moving in a trade (and a high-end uniform matchup coming tomorrow night). Let's get started!
Pete

How long DOES Dan Quinn last?  And how long SHOULD he last, in your opinion?
Sam Robinson
5:12
Hi Pete...if he survived that debacle, the coast looks clear for the time being. But Quinn -- the team's third HC choice behind Ben Johnson and Mike Macdonald in 2024 -- is certainly fighting an uphill battle to keep his job beyond 2026.

It did not look like most of the Commanders' offense knew the situation. This may not be a Donovan McNabb-esque "I didn't know a tie could happen"-level lack of understanding, but Jayden Daniels' Madden awareness rating probably needs to drop. Quinn obviously is responsible for any clock-related mishap, and it is worth wondering if his decision to promote 31-year-old David Blough to OC was a factor here.

Washington's bye is next week. If they are routed by a depleted 49ers team Monday night after that timing fiasco, a firing is justified. Anthony Lynn would seem an interim option. Recent reporting pointed to Quinn keeping his job for a while longer or through the season. WAS fired Jay Gruden five games into the 2019 season, but this is a different ownership group

Will there steelers be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline ?
Sam Robinson
5:22
Hey walterj, I can't see them selling based on what their roster looks like. That might be the smart play to get ready for another QB search -- this time, presumably one not involving an aging starter -- but would a team that just hired a 63-year-old HC and re-signed a 42-year-old QB sell?

With experienced vets aplenty on defense as well, I'll bet against the Steelers doing anything to subtract -- beyond the Joey Porter Jr. contract-related trade, of course.

The Steelers going Baker-less Bucs, Saints and then a home Browns date before their bye, they are set up to buy at the deadline. I'm not sure they should do that, but that is more likely than selling based on their Rodgers-Heyward-Watt-Ramsey-DK setup.

Any subtraction in the pass rush group probably comes in 2027. I still don't expect the Watt-Highsmith-Herbig trio to be together next year, but the trio likely finishes one more season intact.

That said, it would be fun to see where Rodgers' antics go after a seller deadline in his final season
Packers

That last game a get right game and sign of things to come? Or just us beating up on a team without their QB?
Sam Robinson
5:39
Loved what I saw from the Packers last week. I don't think it was merely them preying on a Bears team down Caleb Williams. Love's 11.8 Y/A and 367-yard day, as his top two WRs ran wild, showed tremendous promise. Getting that kind of a result without Micah Parsons was very impressive.

Even if Parsons returns soon, the Reed/Bako-Bewele/Cooper injuries are a major concern. I'm not sure how long the defense can hold up under these circumstances, but they are a rather surprising eighth in EPA per play without their best player.

Not throwing in the towel on the Packers by any means. Curious to see how they proceed with Zeitler as well.

Sam, which coordinators do you think are making the best cases for head coaching jobs? Personally I'll be surprised if Brian Flores and Anthony Campanile aren't hired away from their teams next year. Granted the lawsuit complicates things with Flores but he was promising the first time around with the Dolphins and he's doing incredible stuff as an assistant. Thanks.
Sam Robinson

Hey Roger, Flores would probably have a job after last season were it not for the lawsuit. That yearslong suit has ended up benefiting the Vikings, who have been able to keep an HC-level talent on the coordinator tier as a result. As the Chiefs have shown with Spagnuolo, having an elite coordinator without an HC path is an underrated weapon. I just can't see a team hiring him in 2027 as is.

Campanile is a good mention, too. I was surprised he did not receive more looks this year. Has done a lot with a Jags defense not flooded with Pro Bowl-level talent.

Scheelhaase is a good bet to be a serious candidate due to McVay's history here, and the Ravens' Declan Doyle probably lands interviews even at 30. Will a third Kubiak be deemed ready? Klay (49ers OC) received a look this year, and if SF keeps going while losing key players, teams will undoubtedly look to poach a Shanahan assistant. If Seattle's defense is elite again, and it probably will be, Aden Durde will draw attention. Ditto Vance Joseph.

Hey Sam. Do you think any solid starting corners and/or safeties will be moved before the deadline? The Bills could certainly use the help.
Sam Robinson

I can see the Chargers dangling Donte Jackson, with Still and Hart on rookie deals through 2027. I doubt the Eagles will slip into full-on seller mode, but Riq Woolen is worth monitoring if their struggles persist. The Jets aren't using Nahshon Wright; not a starter, but certainly played well last year. Leonhard could push for a call on Riley Moss after coaching him in Denver, but given their CB injuries and contender status, doubtful they subtract there.

Tyson Campbell is on a vet-minimum 2026 salary (as the Browns are Eagles-like with contract structure), though he does have an $8MM-plus 2027 guarantee. One to monitor if the Browns tumble out of the race in the next few weeks.

At safety, Ronnie Hickman is on an RFA tender with a second-rounder (McNeil-Warren) behind him. Elijah Molden is another Charger who could move, while Amani Hooker was extended before Saleh's Titans arrival. I doubt the Cards would move Baker, but this would be the year to ask.

Do you like the chances of Khalil Mack getting traded?
Sam Robinson
6:07
Hey TD-Machine, I do. It's time. His $18MM contract includes only $8MM in base salary. An acquiring team taking on a prorated chunk of that is feasible, though I wonder how much value is here with Mack now 35 and has one double-digit sack season since 2019 (a 2023 season aided by a six-sack rampage against then-rookie Aidan O'Connell).

Mack is off to a fast start, however, with his three sacks coming in three separate games. His 10 QB pressures are tied for 17th through five games. Mack has also been durable, save for a four-game IR stint last season, in L.A. With the Bolts 0-5 and adding Mesidor, I can see a scenario in which both sides seek an amicable separation.

I'll be curious what the market is here. Mack's age makes anything beyond a high-Day 3 pick hard to envision, but this obviously is a premium position. He'll have a market beyond the Bears. Though, especially with Odeyingbo set to miss time now, that fit makes a lot of sense.
Loomis
6:17
Given the latest comments from Saints ownership, could Mickey Loomis get fired soon?
Sam Robinson
6:17
Loomis has proven to have some of the best job security in NFL history. This is Year TWENTY-FIVE for the Saints GM. Only Tex Schramm lasted longer as a pure GM (29 years).

Loomis is also nearly 70. Excluding our two owner/GMs, he is by far the NFL's oldest figure in this role. Only two other active GMs (Chris Ballard and George Paton, who are respectively 57 and 56) are older than 55. That is a somewhat underdiscussed component here, even though Loomis is an accomplished exec.

Ownership did not look to seriously consider canning Loomis after firing Dennis Allen in 2024, and a report after a 1-8 start last season did not indicate he was close to the chopping block. But if the team's Kellen Moore-Tyler Shough-based plan keeps going as is, yes, Loomis looms as a candidate to be let go soon.

The Saints have not made the playoffs since Drew Brees, and it is fair to say Sean Payton also had a tremendous impact on Loomis' success. It is probably time here.

If the Broncos struggle on offense again tomorrow, what could/should they do at the deadline?
Sam Robinson
6:24
I'm not sure there is a clear move to make. I would have identified TE as a Broncos weak point coming into the season, but Evan Engram is not exactly standing out due to poor play. The team is also mostly healthy on that side of the ball, and Pat Bryant is expected back midseason. Denver also has Jonah Coleman eligible to come off IR in Week 7. The rookie would help in the event Dobbins goes down again (or keeps looking sluggish).

Denver is ultra-committed to its O-line, having five eight-figure AAVs and Alex Palczewski's two-year deal on the payroll. Bo Nix just isn't playing very well, and the Chargers matchup -- finally a break for a Broncos team handed a season-opening gauntlet -- spotlighted the QB's struggles.

Getting through this grueling stretch at 3-3 would be a win for Denver, particularly with how Nix is playing. The mini-bye plus a Cardinals Week 7 tilt provides an important reset. This Broncos formula is not sustainable, but the personnel seems to be there on offense.
