I don't think Hines liked it when he was bypassed for the WR coach position after the 2017 season. He spent the latter part of that season helping out the receivers and thought he could or would be the replacement for Richard Mann

My Second question.  I know some fans would love to see Artie Burns gone.  I've always been a supporter of the young man.  How is he looking this summer as he fights for a spot on the 53?

Tough to tell. He gets beat, he makes some plays, and he didn't play last week vs. TB. They don't have a lot of NFL-experienced players at the CB position so I would be surprised (though not shocked) if they didn't keep him

The NFL product just keeps getting more unwatchable. Is it me or are we really getting short changed by spending 3+hours for Maybe 10 minutes of action? Finding Soccer, even with low scores, more watchable since it is at least all action...

I don't know about the soccer comparison, but I think what a lot of people don't understand for the decline in viewership and even attendance is that the fans are tired of the behavior of today's professional athletes. They have become unrelatable, not just unwatchable.

Gerry, I have always thought Donnie Shell belonged in the Hall of Fame. He could hit and leave a mark, defend, and intercept. I still can see his rib crushing hit on Earl Campbell. And what makes him even more special for me is that he was a free agent. What do you think?

Hi Gerry - really enjoy your chats down here in humid Tampa.  Lots of injuries during camp, most of them "nicks and bruises" but what is up with TJ Watt? Haven't heard much about him all camp. Hurt? Seriously hurt? He's a big piece of our new and improved D.

He's just fine. He missed the first 10 days and was held out of the first preseason game, but he's been practicing and good to go.

Hi Gerry! When I watched the preseason game last week on TV, it seemed that Boswell's kicks were solid & fairly straight down the middle. Most of Wright's kicks seemed to barely squeeze thru the uprights.  Based on training camp & one game, what's your assessment?

Just that. Look, the only way Boswell isn't making the team is if he is a complete flop in the preseason. And that hasn't been the case. Wright's leg isn't strong enough for the NFL

Is there a specific reason why the Steelers did not schedule any joint training camp practices this year?  Seems like a huge advantage in regards to evaluating talent.

Sometimes those things become counter-productive, not to mention nasty. Fights, scrums, hard hits, usually from players who are trying to get noticed. Four preseason games are plenty. Dont need a scrimmage

Hi Sir.  Even with the pick up of Steven Nelson, we were a team in need of better CBs. Do you feel that Justin Layne was the right choice with the 83rd pick? That's a relatively high pick for someoneconveryed to CBnit to long ago. You comfortable with the pick? Thank you Gerry

That's what we'll find out. I don't have a problem with the player, I had a problem that they didn't take a guy who could play inside or challenge Mike Hilton in their sub packages. I'm not going to judge Justin Layne on one quarter in his first NFL game. Anyone who does is a complete -- what did Bugs Bunny used to call them? -- oh yeah, maroon.

I couldn't agree more. It was proposed at the owners meetings in March and I was shocked when it didn't go through. No coach wants OT in the preseason
