What percent chance do you give Mason of returning next season?  Based on how he has been treated here, I think it is very low.  Even if he is told he will be the starter, how can he trust Tomlin after the previous lies?
Gerry Dulac

I think the chances are good, though I'm hesitant to say very good for what you mentioned about how he was treated last season. But I don't think you have to worry about the possibility of him being told he is the starter in 2024. That will be Pickett

Hello Gerry, thank you for the chats, always a lot of insight information, great job!! Why is there so little love to the best defense player of the last decade, TJ Watt?
Gerry Dulac

From whom? He certainly gets a lotta love here.

What do you think of my theory on Mason Rudolph?: The bogus racial slur accusation made by Myles Garrett when appealing his suspension years ago has held Mason back in the NFL. That’s why NFL teams, in a league that promotes anti-racism messaging, had no interest in him last offseason. Mike Tomlin, a senior black coach, is sensitive to racial issues. Tomlin hires minority coaches, including Brian Flores who was unhireable due to his lawsuit over racism. So Tomlin could not in good conscience make Mason his starting quarterback, given that a star black player had accused Mason of making a racial slur. That’s why Tomlin quickly signed Trubisky, drafted Pickett, and never gave Mason a fair shot, until he could no longer bury Mason due to Trubisky’s poor play.

What I think of your theory is that is terribly unfair to Mike Tomlin, who went out of his way to defend Mason Rudolph after the Myles Garrett incident and even went on national TV to do so.

Why is Tomlin playing the game of not saying Rudolph is the starter for the rest of the playoffs?   Is Kenny that fragile?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
Why should he? He doesn't need to. I think it's naive for anyone to think Rudolph won't be the starter if the Steelers keep winning at this point.

Do you think management realizes how much Tomlin butchered the QB situation?  If he went with Mason earlier, we could be playing a home game this weekend.  He waited way too long to start him.  This is typical Tomlin stubbornness.
Gerry Dulac

First off, the Steelers were never going to be playing a home game this weekend, no matter who was the QB. The Ravens had that covered. And he only used Mitch Trubisky, who was their No. 2 QB after all, for two games before yanking him.

Hello Gerry . Thank you as always for the chat . Do you think that there is any validity to Schefter report that Tomlin might take some time off after the season or walk away from the Steelers ? Being an insider , do you have the same feeling ? I certainly hope not . Thank you very much .
Gerry Dulac

I am not in position to read Tomlin's mind, but, knowing him, I can't imagine he's going around telling anyone that. But, I do know this -- it hasn't been discussed or even mentioned with anyone who matters with the Steelers

Can Hines Ward improve the wr’s room???

Only if he plays

Happy Wednesday Gerry! Hopefully we can surprise the Bills on Sunday (after all we don’t have nothing to loose) but in the case they don’t do you foresee changing coaching staff after this final 3 weeks . Are we still hoping an outside oc will come ?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I still think there will be changes to the coaching staff after the season. But I do think Mike Sullivan has had a good audition to be the OC next year, though I'm not sure that's going to happen.

Good morning Gerry! When Mason makes that big mistake in one of these games, is that it for him? Will Tomlin go back to Kenny then? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I sure hope not. He is entitled to one mistake. Every QB is

Hi Gerry. Could you give me a comp for Mason Rudolph's ceiling? What past/present player is he most comparable to?

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . Weidl name is being floated as hot candidate for GM position . Any chance that Steelers might promote him to co GM or VP position to keep him around and do you think , he would stay ? He has a big hand in successful draft last year . Thank you very much .
Gerry Dulac

I see his name being mentioned and a title promotion is always a possibility. But I wouldn't get too carried away with it yet.

Are the Tomlin rumors just a way to negotiate in the media to get more money?  If so, how does Rooney feel about that tactic?  I thought I remembering hearing he is not the type that likes to negotiate through the media.  Could this backfire for Tomlin?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I really don't think the "rumors" have anything to do with Tomlin trying to get more money. He is already among the highest paid coaches in the league.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.  The last three Steeler playoff games resulted in losses and 42, 45, and 48 points allowed, even with a healthy #90.  Do you think the cold and bad weather in Buffalo, and running at least 50 times to shorten the game is the best shot the Steelers have?  More screen passes?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
I don't know specifically about screens, but being able to successfully run the ball will be key. I wouldn't count on 50 times, tho.

Buffalo has 2 tight ends who can roam the midfield and catch and run. How do you see the Steelers defending them?

Gerry/. Would you agree that the keys to a Steelers victory include winning the turnover battle snd getting some short fields to convent to points?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
It's not so much winning the turnover battle; it's capitalizing on the turnovers, making the Bills pay for their mistakes.

Hey Gerry, thanks for the chat! What do you think the best way for the Steelers to pull an upset on Sunday is? I’m thinking effective run game, with a couple deep shots to Pickens here and there. Hope for a couple Allen turnovers and find a way to win in the 4th. No Harvin shanks would help too. Thanks again!
Gerry Dulac
10:17
That sounds like a pretty good formula to me!

Gerry-   Your colleague Ray thinks the noise about Tomlin taking a break is all about posturing for his contact extension?  Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
He doesn't have to posture. He is getting an extension after the season, has been all along.

Can you imagine Tomlin on TV?  I watch his press conferences every week and I rarely understand most of what he says.  Would a national TV station hire a man that plays a character when the cameras are on?
Gerry Dulac

You're not alone.

I think that this could be a perfect game for 93 to have a breakout. Supposed to be windy and cold and the Bills can run the ball if they ever decide to stick to it. What say you sir?

You really think Josh Allen is going to turn into a mailman instead of a gun slinger??
