Good morning, Gerry. I believe this offseason would traditionally be the period where the Rooney’s extend the head coach. The last time, it was a topic of conversation on all of the outlets and was a big deal. This time, there’s very little discussion. Any idea why and have you heard as to whether or not there are plans to extend Coach Tomlin soon?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
They gave him an extension last year for one year and an option. This is no time to be giving him another one.
Jerry
10:35
Hey Gerry! Do you think the Steelers will use the franchise tag on anyone?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
I doubt it because of the reduced salary cap.

If my boss gave me an objective and I actually got worse, not sure how long I would keep my job
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Well, let's not forget they were 12-4, greater than ANYONE -- you, me or even the most die-hard Steelers fan -- would have imagined. I am not dismissing the late-season collapse for the third season in a row, or the embarrassing one-and-done performance in the home playoff loss AGAIN. I'm just saying.

Hi Gerry, did DeCastro look greatly diminished this season to you? If you're the GM, would you cut him?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I don't study or break down film of offensive linemen. I'm not qualified to do that so I can't sit here and tell you it did or it didn't. But I think the new OLine coach will determine that. I do think Decastro's knee injury bothered him more than he would ever let on.

Is there any chance the Steelers bring back Bud Dupree on a team friendly deal since he got injured last year?
Gerry Dulac
10:42
There aren't going to be too many "friendly" deals with this reduced cap. And why would Bud want to accept a "team friendly" deal? The only way that is happening is if no team shows any interest in Bud because of his injury....and I don't expect that to happen at all.

Gerry,   On these playoff games being on national TV and radio, does all the32 NFL teams share in this revenue on these games or only the two teams involved?  Thanx.
Gerry Dulac
10:43
All TV and radio monies are part of a contract that is equally distributed among all teams.

What are the chances the Steelers bring back Mike Hilton and JuJu?
Gerry Dulac
10:43
Slim and just as slim.

Do you think the steelers address the qb position this offseason via draft or free agency for the future?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
That depends who might be out there, but I don't think it's a priority right now.

If you could put in any past Steeler in their prime to help their 2021 roster, who would it be?

Gerry, thanks for the chats, love your candor.  Why all the hate for 7.  How can passing for 500 yds and 4 tds be washed up?  Yes 4 picks and 2 were tipped balls.  The D should have kept them to FGs-and they win. Last point his QBR was 88 that day--the great franchise QB in Cleveland had a QBR of 76 on Sunday.

Why do so many people really believe the Steelers would be a better team next year without Ben?   And why can we assume we cannot rebuild when he finally moves on - when he is really done?  Every season is an opportunity and why throw one away if we can keep enough of the band together?
Gerry Dulac
10:45
Bingo. Hold your cards!!

10:45
What positions do you address in the top 3 rounds of the draft?
Gerry Dulac
10:45
RB, OL, OLB

I was the guy that asked the Ben question and keeping the band together...sorry for the no name question!!!!

No problem Chuck

Good Morning Gerry, although I loved when the Steelers drafted JuJu, i think he's more or less a possession receiver and his distractions haven't helped the team win games either. What is your take? Keep or let him go to free agency?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
I think they would like to keep him but too many people who know tell me he wants to leave for a big contract and a big market

Will Haden, VW, DWatt be retained for next year?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
That's going to be interesting. I think either Haden or Steve Nelson will not be back because of the cap, and I think Haden will be the one to stay. Vince Williams maybe. And Derek Watt no.

Be honest, how many people either wanted the Browns either to lose by 40 or lose by having the Chiefs drive 98 yards and win in OT, or have the Browns fumble in the red zone driving for the winning score?😜
Gerry Dulac
10:47
I was rooting for them to win. I can't speak for the others

There will be a lot of decent Free agent running backs in the Free agency coming up. If the Steelers focus on the OL in the draft, do you see theme signing a veteran RB to provide leadership like Mark Ingram or someone similar that's around their cap allowance?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
It would not surprise me to see them sign a veteran RB in free agency to be a backup, much like they did with DeAngelo Williams and LeGarrette Blount. But only if they don't re-sign Conner (which I don't expect) and draft a RB in rounds 1 or 2.

Why not cut/force to retire Ben and take that 20 mil cap saving, along with other cuts/restructures to revamp this O line/running game to be a top 5-10 unit, along with bringin Bud back and keeping this elite Defense unit in tact. I feel like Mason could be decent enough to win games with that supporting cast (kind of like Jimmy G in San Fran last year). And if he is so bad that we suck, then we have a high drat pick next year and get our next QB OR get a top FA next offseason...
Gerry Dulac
10:51
Look, Mason Rudolph is 6-3 as a starter. That translates to 10-6, maybe 11-5 as a full-time starter. I think it's apparent they can win with him if they have to. And Bud isn't coming back. And the only way Ben isn't coming back is if he decides he isn't coming back. That being said, he has said many times he wants to play out his contract.

Who do you think is higher priority for the Steelers to keep: Hilton or Sutton?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
It's not Hilton.

Gerry,  If the steelers cut Ben and save roughly 18mil, can that saved money be used on another player?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Sure, but they aren't cutting Ben.
