Ok kids, it won't be long now. I'm not calling this my season-ending chat but there will be some alterations in the scheduling as we move forward into spring. But not now, so get ready....
10:57
Ok kids, here we go...fire away!!

Good Morning.  Any idea when we might here if Butler is retiring or if any other coaches are leaving?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
Not sure. It happened very quickly last year with Fichtner and the O-line coach. And there could be some movement soon with Keith Butler and possibly Teryl Austin, who is sure to get interviews around the league.

Hi Gerry, please indulge my left field question - if a team offers 3 first round picks for coach T, does Art Rooney entertain that trade?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
I doubt it, but I might have to coax him!!

Hi Gerry, do you think Ben will be more of a Jack Lambert, and never be heard from again, or is he the Mel Blount, Franco Harris, Joe Green type, and is consistently around the organization. Personally, I don’t think he hear from Ben for 2-3 years, then he works his way back into the fold. Thoughts ?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
I tend to agree with the latter part. I don't think he will come around for the same reason Troy and Hines don't come around.

Morning Gerry.  Any hope for steeler fans that coach Tomlin will pick up a stud assistant coach somewhere? Why cant he attract top assistants if he is "easy to work with?"
Gerry Dulac
11:02
That's a very good question. The only one he did was Mike Munchak. And Todd Haley was hired by the Rooneys.

If you knew Steelers would sweep Cleve and Balt and beat all three unique to them first place sched teams (Buff, Tenn and Sea) you might be surprised they only ended up with two more wins? Half glass full argument?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
Good point. But valid

Gerry- saw your tweet during KC game about Ben taking over in second half with play calls. Do you think this was discussed with Coaches or he pulled his ear piece out and let it sling?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
No, he doesn't pull out the communication device, but at that point  he has to do what's best on the field and that's what he was doing. Wasn't the first game he did that.

Hi Gerry, thanks for the chats! It seems that based on the list of free agent quarterbacks that will be available, the Steelers may be better off going with Rudolph next season, fix other areas of the team and then deal with the quarterback situation when there is someone available that may be an upgrade. Jameis Winston is the only guy on the list I'd even consider taking over Rudolph. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
You're only going to get a starting QB -- draft or free agency -- who you think is better than Rudolph. And Winston and several of these others are not. That being said, I expect the Steelers to add a veteran QB, but as a backup, for two reasons -- 1) They are losing a QB in Ben, and 2) that would be a very young QB room with Ben gone. Look for them to add one, just don't think it's going to be Russell Wilson or anyone like that for $$$$ reasons.

You can't seriously mock a Steelers draft this year because they are a real player in FA with some significant cap space. What is the one position you see them signing a big FA in?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
Center.

Hi Gerry!, Do you think Carr could be a good option and cheaper than Wilson?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
He'd be cheaper, for sure. But maybe not by much. I just don't see the Steelers doing that.

Gerry thanks for the chats! Are there any names of interest you're hearing they like in the upcoming QB class? Also, AR2 needs to save us from another year of Canada no?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Too early to tell. And I just don't know how they can have any amount of faith in what they do offensively after watching what they did the past 8-9 weeks. Brutal.

11:08
Could you see a scenario where the Steelers trade back in the draft to try and acquire more picks?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
No.
Ryan
11:08
It doesn't sound like Tomlin is ready to part ways with Canada. Any chance Rooney steps in to force that change?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
He did with Bruce Arians when Tomlin wanted him back.

When will we know who is taking over for Colbert?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
When he retires, and nobody knows when and if that will be

Was Ray-Ray McCloud really that bad? Seems he was a consistent presence in the Steelers lineup but for some reason took a lot of criticism. A credible punt returner who had his share of decent pass receptions.
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Nobody said he was bad. But he's not Tyreek Hill, either, and he was being treated that way. McCloud was getting a lot of chances because teams were paying more attention to 11 and 18.

What's your feeling on the Butler situation? Is he retiring?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I think he wil.

Hi Gerry, So many people are high on C Linderbaum who is only 6 ft 2 in / 290 lb whereas Green is 6 ft 1 3/4 in / 305 lb. It seems like the big difference between the two is proper center technique. Isn't technique teachable? Green was just thrown into trenches with a rifle but he didn't know how to operate it. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I am willing to understand center was a big adjustment for him after playing just four of 31 college starts there. I wouldn't give up on him just yet.
John
11:12
Gerry this team has so many holes.  Obviously in trenches on both sides.   One could argue inside linebacker is the weakest by far on entire team (which is saying something).   One would think they would have to sign a free agent middle backer. Correct?   It wouldn’t shock me if Dean from Georgia is there in 1st they take him.   The Bush bust has been crippling
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Their holes are on both lines of scrimmage.
Chet

Rudolph and Haskins's year end interviews suggested that Canada was limited from implementing his vision due to Roethlisberger's limitations and preferences. Do you think we will see more diverse offensive concepts in 22 like more plays under center, motion, play action, and moving the pocket?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I'm not sure what makes anyone think things will be different next season. Because you referenced those two exit interviews, did you pay attention to interviews during the season that quietly suggested the offense didn't know what it was doing??

Assuming Keith Butler retires, is it a slam dunk that Austin gets the DC job? Is there anyone else on staff they'd possibly promote or any chance they'd go outside and bring in someone?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Maybe. That is the plan. But what if Austin wants to call his own plays, which is what any defensive coordinator would want to do? And what established D-coordinator on the outside would want to come here and not be able to implement his defense and call his own plays??
