OK kids, good morning. We'll start our chat in about 15 min so get ready....
9:52
OK, I had to leave a lot of questions on the table last week so let's get started.
Bill Cowher
9:52
Gerry, thanks for the chats, enjoy. What direction do you see the steelers moving for their new coach? Offense, Defense? Young or Previous head coach?
Gerry Dulac
9:53
Defense would be the easy prediction, but they're not sold it has to be that way. They understand how the game today is about offense. That being the case, then they better get a good defensive coordinator. They will hire who they feel is the right person, whether offense or defense

Good morning Gerry! It’s reported that Andy Weidl has an opportunity to interview in Atlanta. It feels as if the Steelers need him this off season more than ever. Do you anticipate him leaving? That’s a weird situation in Atlanta. Matt Ryan is said to have total control of all decisions yet they still want a GM.
Gerry Dulac
9:55
Matt Ryan is president of football operations. Doesn't mean he is directly responsible for putting together the talent or the draft board. That's where Weidl would come in
Josh

McCarthy on paper seems like an underwhelming choice in that’s what it turns out to be in the end. It would be very un-Steeler like to go with a retread coach and an older one at that. Do you think he’s plan B if plan A doesn’t workout? And we just don’t know what plan A is right now.
Gerry Dulac
9:56
I like Mike, I think he's a very good coach. His record proves that. But I would be surprised if that's the direction they go.

Do you know if there is a "Quarterback Whisperer" out there that could work to develop a QB for us?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
Yes I do. He's in LA
Brandon
9:56
There’s actually no way they hire McCarthy right
Gerry Dulac
9:57
I would be surprised. Not shocked, surprised.

Any chance MT resigned because he may have been forced to fire assistants/friends?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
None

Gerry, I’d like to propose an idea: after the May closure of the Post Gazette, you will move to LA where you and I together will host a weekly Steelers chat on Wednesdays. We’ll call it “Bill and Gerry in LA’s Pittsburgh Steelers chat”. What do you say?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Then how would I get questions from "Bill in LA?"
Linebacker Lounge
9:57
FA’s: Would GD you bring back Gainwell, Pierre, Austin (WR3) and Killebrew?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Yes, yes, yes and yes, though I wouldn't break the bank.
Josh

A lot of media is saying the Steelers opening isn’t even in the top 3 out of the 10 spots. Partially due to not having a plan at QB, and I understand that to an extent. But am I the only one who thinks it may be one of the top spots? The coaches that land Baltimore and Buffalo will be expected to win day 1 and if they lose like their predecessors, it maybe be lights out quickly for their tenure. Expectations have never been lower in Pittsburgh, even if Art II still thinks they can contend, but we know the leash will be long here for whom ever is hired. I feel like this is a good job, especially for a young up and coming new head coach. Am I wrong?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
You are not. This is a team that has been to the postseason five of the past six seasons. Can any of the other teams who have openings say that? No
Bill in LA
9:59
Why are the Steelers interviewing retread coaches? You’d mentioned it would be a younger coach. I don’t really want to see Mike McCarthy bring back his old buddy Aaron Rogers to recreate the bygone Packers team. I’d like to see a Steelers team. Are you standing by your prediction on the type of coach?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Yes I am Bill.
Linebacker Lounge
9:59
if accurate, seems concrete that the strength & conditioning staff is out regardless? Any insight on that?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
That is correct, according to what I was told

Good morning, Jerry! What are the chances in your opinion, the Steelers wait until the season is over to interview Shula? How would you feel about a Shula-Sheelhaase package hire?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I think that would be a pretty good package!!
Linebacker Lounge
10:01
Is Ramsey a cap casualty risk? If not a QB in round #1, 21 is a sweet spot for a safety. Or are you thinking WR if not a QB?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
WR WR WR, if they don't find their QB
Bill in LA
10:01
Why did the Steelers draft RB Kaleb Johnson and QB Will Howard if their intention was to never allow them to play footaball?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
Never is a long time BILA
Sara Jay
10:01
Hello big man! If Chris Shula is your pick to be the next Steelers head coach. Who would you put 2nd on your list of most likely Steelers hires?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Well, he is not my "pick," because I haven't made a pick. But I'm sure he is a big blip on their radar. So is the other LA guy, who gives off that Mike Tomlin vibe in interviews
mrbig
10:03
So rumors are according to players, the problem was the coordinators, not Tomlin. But he hired all of them, yes?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Maybe the problem was the players.
Linebacker Lounge
10:04
Realize DK is paid like WR1, but do they need a WR1? Obviously at least a 1b.
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Yeah, they need him, no matter what his designation is. But I never thought DK was a No. 1 like Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson are No. 1s. I always thought he was a very good No. 2, or, as you put it, a 1B
Harry Callas
10:05
Hello Mr Dulac! If the Steelers are talking to 2 coaches with head coach experience in McCarthy and Flores. Why no Sean McDermott? He won 8 playoff games in 9 years. Same number Tomlin had in his entire career.
Gerry Dulac
10:05
If they are interested in a former head coach, McDermott goes to the top of my list, too. Easy

10:05
How do teams decide who to interview? Are there coaching scouts? I'm surprised Antwaan Randle El hasn't gotten a look.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
They talk to people around the league, which they do all the time anyway. They hear these things, know these things. And the agents for some of these guys reach out or get their names floated out there, trust me.
