Gerry, how are you? Hey, after reading the article on “Mr. Blue Wig” in Detroit filing a $100 million lawsuit against DK, Ford Field, The Steelers, and anybody else he could think of, do you think the Steelers might add some sideline security to their payroll? This would especially prudent for away games. I know they’re going to settle with that nut job for some undisclosed amount which would create a precedence for future fans looking to cash in. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
First off, I highly doubt the Steelers are going to "settle" with the blue-haired guy, who, believe it or not, claims to be the CEO of a company.  Also, Metcalf never publicly made the claim that the guy was a racist or said the things that he was purported to have said. Chad Johnson and James Harrison said he said it, not Metcalf, which is an entirely different legal issue. As for security, the Steelers, and just about every team, have two security people on their sideline at every game. But how they let Metcalf go over to the stands without stopping him is still surprising to me.

Gerry, is it just me in LA, or is there also a feeling in Pittsburgh that a huge burden has been lifted with the exit of Mike Tomlin?
Gerry Dulac

I think a lot of people probably feel that way, but let's wait and see how they feel in October or November. I don't doubt Mike McCarthy will do a great job -- he does everywhere he goes -- but only if they can figure out the QB position. He doesn't have the same luxury here that he inherited in GB and Dallas.

I think George Pickens would have been a fantastic difference maker at WR last season when paired with DK Metcalf. In retrospect, wouldn't the Steelers have been better off just putting up with George Pickens for one more year rather than getting yet another third round draft pick?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
He would have been...if he wasn't such a head case and disruptive presence. Which is why the Steelers moved on from him. They know what a talent he is. So just imagine what a pain in the rear he must have been to get rid of him.

Good morning, Gerry. I was reading an article that suggested that the Steelers are considering bringing Kyler Murray to Pittsburgh. I sure hope not. Have you heard anything?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I'm with you -- I sure hope not. That solves nothing.

Gerry: the team and the media (including Brian Batko in a recent chat) seem to think that winning one playoff game is an important step on the way back to being a team that contends for championships.  If the Steelers win a playoff game this coming year with Rodgers, Heyward, and Watt as key contributors, why would that be viewed as a step towards anything given the age and decline of those players?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
It's still a step forward from what has been happening. I don't think anyone should expect a giant step. But a small step would be a start ...and nice for a change.

I find it very interesting that two of the Saints coaches have turned down Steelers offers to remain with the Saints in lesser positions. What do you think about that?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
What do I think? I think they were told they were not going to be hired by a team that has been in the postseason five of the past six years so they said I like it here with this other moribund franchise that hasn't been in the postseason in five years.

Good morning Jerry, your thoughts on MM’s assistants overall so far? With the Green Bay connection maybe switch the name to Pittsburgh Stackers? Thanks for the chats.

Do you see  the Steelers taking any interest in Malik Willis or kicking the tires on Kyler Murray, assuming Arron Rodgers is not back in the fold?

I sure hope not

Another week passes and still no word from Tomlin.  That seems odd that he hasn't spoken.  It makes it feel like he was fired instead of quitting.  Why wouldn't he want to explain his side of it?  Unless, of course, his side is a story that he doesn't to have out in the public.
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Don't hold your breath. He is not going to have a press conference because 1) he doesn't want to, and 2) he is not interested in another meeting with the media, who, as a collective (his favorite word), are not high on his Christmas card list. Also, he was not fired, he resigned.

Just a bit odd no minority HC hires this go round is it not?  Thanks.

There was one -- Robert Saleh (Titans), who is of Lebanese descent

Gerry, can you share any post-May plans yet for yourself? Will you be writing or chatting somewhere? My offer stands for you to move to Los Angeles where your new chat name will be “Gerry in LA".

Let's see what happens first, BILA. Talks are continuing.

Thanks for your chats Gerry!  Who is your front runner for the OC position ? After that filled and the te coach are you expecting any more coach hires??
Gerry Dulac
10:15
They met with the Vikings TE coach Brian Angelichio yesterday about the OC job. He used to be on McCarthy's staff in GB. They also had about 4-5 coaches in for interviews yesterday, too, though not all for OC.

Did Omar buy McCarthy some paint other than red?

Good morning Gerry, “IF” Rodgers decides to return, is there concern about how he would mesh with a young, largely new wide receiver room? Based on last season, it’s hard to see how this could work.
Gerry Dulac
10:16
I don't think that's a concern if those young, new WRs are fast and can get open. Having a QB like Rodgers will benefit those guys.

Any chance the Steelers will release or trade DK?  He was known to be highly penalized before they traded for him.  He severely underachieved, and now he got the team involved in a lawsuit.  Not a good look.  His bad has now outweighed his good.
Gerry Dulac
10:24
I don't think that's going to happen. I get why you say he under-achieved, but maybe it's because the expectations that he was a true No. 1 receiver were excessive, if not unreasonable. And those expectations arose from the monster contract he was given.

Is McCarthy serious about wanting Rodgers back??  The guy proved over the past few years that he's average now.  Please tell me Mike is just saying he wants him back to make him feel good.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I wouldn't call him "average" by any measure. And, right now, maybe they think they don't have a better option. But let's wait and see how "serious" McCarthy was about bringing him back.

Hey Gerry, assuming Angelichio gets the OC job, how much of the hire (given his lengthy background as a TE coach) would be based on their desire to get more explosive plays out of Freiermuth and Washington, Freiermuth in particular?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
None I would imagine. If that is the criteria, then Freiermuth should have had 90-100 catches with Arthur Smith, who had been a TE coach for years before becoming an OC. Plus, McCarthy will call the plays, not the OC he hires.

When I was young my karate teacher should us how to fall so as to not hurt ourselves in a match.  Assuming that at least half of NFL injuries are when one hits the ground and are not just contact injuries, would it make sense in training camp if teams spent some time on the way to hit the ground
Gerry Dulac
10:29
I think they know how to fall.

Gerry - what exactly will new Chief of Staff Steve Scarnecchia's primary duties with the team be? Anything that has to do with what happens on the field on during games?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
Nothing. His duties will be off-field, especially during the week -- setting up practices, meetings, etc.
