Hi Gerry.  Do you think the Steelers would have stood pat in favor of “stability”, especially at offensive coordinator if the NFL hadn’t gone to a 7-team playoff format?  In such a scenario they’d be coming off two lower-third of the league offensive seasons in which the missed the playoffs in Ben’s last year, then would have been eliminated with 2 weeks to go this year rather than down to one missing piece of help in week 18.  Could this format change be have falsely encouraged them about how close they are and isn’t it bad business if that’s the case? Thanks!

Six teams or seven teams, the performance is still the same, and it's just not very good on offense. Being close shouldn't be good enough for a franchise with this history whose stated goal every year is the Super Bowl, nothing less.

Hi Gerry.  I’ve heard Tevon Jenkins has expressed interest in playing for the Steelers.  If true, do you know if the Steelers have an interest in him?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
They don't need to add offensive linemen in free agency. They did that last year. If you see an O-lineman added, it will be in the draft -- high in the draft.

Gerry… who is our best offensive neman currently. Which position on the line is most in need of upgrade…. What do you think the Steelers will ultimately try to do….thanx
Gerry Dulac
10:39
I think from the center over to the right side have all been very good. If the Steelers take an O-lineman high in the draft, that would usually indicate a LT.

The talent is there ; with a few modifications we’ve got what it
take’s to be a Super Bowl team!

You are very optimistic, my friend

Gerry…with the impressive play of Hayward and Gentry do you see the Steelers going to a two tight end offense more often than last season?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
No, they go to it plenty. Always have

Do you think the Steelers and maybe even the fans get a little carried away with familiarity? Guys like Edmonds and Gentry are good players but are replaceable if the FA value gets to high. Do they consider overpaying to keep players like that or find replacements for less money?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Neither of those players have or will have free agency value that gets too high. That's why Edmunds was still sitting out there last April when the Steelers decided to bring him back. Gentry isn't even a starter. And nobody is going to pay him as such.

Hi Jerry, what position would you like to see the Steelers address first in this year’s draft?  Thank you!
Gerry Dulac
10:41
OL, DL or CB
Kevin

Gerry. Aside from Pickett, any thoughts or insight on what the Steelers QB room looks like next season?
Gerry Dulac
10:43
Depends...if Trubisky is there, maybe bring back Josh Dobbs as a No. 3. If Trubisky isn't there for some reason, maybe Jacoby Brissett (which I mentioned earlier) and Dobbs.

whats your thoughts on keeping Danny Smith? Been nothing special about his special teams imo…
Gerry Dulac
10:43
I think Danny Smith will leave whenever he decides to retire

Hi Gerry, with the large amount of cap space available and the quarterback under a draftee contract, doesn't this open up a unique opportunity for the Steelers to extend some people, but also to sign a few top FAs for the OL, DL or QB positions?  Are the next couple of years a rare window of opportunity to sign and build for a future Superbowl?
Gerry Dulac

The Steelers believe in building for a Super Bowl with the draft, and that's what they think they are doing with Pickett, Pickens, Najee and Freiermuth the past two years. It's time to shift that youth focus to defense in rounds 1 and 2. I think you know by now -- and if you, I will remind you -- the Steelers DO NOT spend big money on top-tier free agents. So to think they are going to get into a bidding war for a big-name free agent, well, that's not happening.

Hello, looking into your crystal ball, when do you think the Steelers will play in a "new" stadium? Acrisure stadium is 22 years old and doesn't hold a candlestick to many other stadiums.
Gerry Dulac
10:50
I disagree with your assessment of the stadium. But, to your question, Three Rivers (which was unsightly average as a football stadium) was 30 years old when it was replaced. So, using that as a barometer, the earliest would be 2031

Morning, Gerry. If the Steelers go OL or DL with #17 at the Draft, do you like ILB or CB at #32?
Gerry Dulac

Is Dionte Johnson on the Steelers when the 2023 season begins?

Steelers Nation is spoiled.  32 NFL teams - 4 have never been to a SB - 8 have been but never won.  Steelers are tied with NE for most SB wins, it took them 11 games while only 8 for the Steelers.  This franchise knows what they are doing & how to provide a competitive team every year.  Please don’t change the formula just to satisfy folks who don’t live in a realistic world!  Keep up the great work 👍🏻

I read your QB situation story. What do you think they'll do with the backups?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
I'm curious to see. Obviously, they would love to keep Trubisky. Where are you going to find a backup like that? You're not. In the right system, Trubisky could start for 3 or 4 other teams, based on the QB play I watched this year. But there are some mitigating factors that might -- might -- come into play.

Hi Gerry.  Do you expect Danny Smith to return as special teams coach?  There was talk he might retire.  Thank you.

What happened to Laudermilk this past season - didn’t seem to make much of a leap in year 2?  I agree we need at least one new DL early in the draft.
Gerry Dulac
10:53
He never seemed to get back to where they were hoping after he was missed a lot of time in training camp and early in the year

Hi G! I still can't get over Matt Canada, but would like approach it from a positiv angle this time: Do you see a realistic chance his offense is coming together some time soon and that the Players and some coaches just needed an exorbitant amount of time to buy into what he is trying to do?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
Marc, you used the key operative expression -- buy into what he is doing. That requires both the players and coaches.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  I keep hearing we have plenty of cap space then other sources say we have very little.  What is the truth?  I know it isnt the steeler way but can we afford a premier FA signing and still resign guys like Edmunds and Sutton?  Too many pundits!
Gerry Dulac
11:00
Jeff, I will remind you what I reminded others -- they do not sign "premium" free agents. Never have, never will. Doesn't mean they don't make some really good free agent signings. But they are not going to spend money on the top FAs on the market. They get freed up with about $20 million in cap space this year because Ben, JuJu and Tuitt are off the books in 2023. But you have eight players who will count at least $10 million against the cap, including three (39, 90 and 97) who will count a combined $69 million. There is no way they will have a lot of cap space, but they shouldn't be right up against it, either.

I saw Rays first draft and was so glad not to see a WR on it. Don’t you think we actually have enough WRs with Calvin Austin and Steven Simms and hopefully more use of Friermuth?? Thoughts ????
