OK kids, we'll be starting our chat in just a few minutes so get ready....
11:27
OK, let's get started. I already see a bunch of questions that deserve one-word answers. Not a good sign....

Gerry: you have pointed out the need for the Steelers to draft high on the defensive line for a few years now and I don't disagree that it is a huge need.  My question though is with other huge needs at CB, WR, and QB, are the Steelers really in a position to reach for a DL vs just taking the best player on the board at one of those positions?  After what the Eagles did, there could be a lot of DL that go before 21.
Gerry Dulac
11:28
There is no bigger need than rebuilding that defensive line. Or we will be having the same discussion next year, just like we are this year.

Would you rather have a standout, accurate, strong armed pocket passer or a very mobile qb who was an average thrower?  I asked this on another chat and the answer was "why do I have to choose".  The answer is because where the Steelers normally draft you don't find someone who is both
Gerry Dulac
11:28
I'll take Joe Burrow
Rahn
11:29
Off topic, but interested in your opinion, Gerry. What is your take on the Pirates and the infinite circle of frustration for fans?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
I have no opinion on them because I don't follow them. But I feel sorry for their fans. Steelers fans should pay heed to what frustration and suffering really is

Rumors swirling around seem to send a message that Art Rooney prefers Russell Wilson and Tomlin prefers Justin Fileds.  If true, does Tomlin get his preference or does Art have final say?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
I don't deal in rumors.

Gerry: if they sign Fields to a 1-2 year deal, doesn't that put a premium on drafting or signing WRs and an RB so they can really see what they have in Fields to decide on a long term contract?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
No. That wouldn't be the reason. Signing and drafting a receiver will be done because they need it, no matter who the QB might be
Josh H
11:31
Do you think Larry O will be cut for the cap savings?  Or are the Steelers worried to be so thin at d-line that they're willing to keep him on the roster at his current cost just in case the draft and free agency doesn't fall their way?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Both are possibilities
Dustin
11:31
Gerry, love your Steelers coverage and always look forward to this chat! What do you make of the brewing feud between Andrew Fillipponi and Mike DeFabo?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Who?
Steve in Canton
11:31
Hi Gerry, would you simply bring back Najee Harris  this year so you don't have to waste a draft pick on  a RB?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
There's a decent chance that could happen. Especially if MT gets his say
Chill Dave
11:32
Hi Gerry, this QB situation is highly unusual.  Do you think the Steelers are intent on signing whoever it is they choose before they become a FA?  And would one players insistence on testing FA mean signing the other before free agency begins?  The Steelers are usually very patient but they could easily find themselves in a bad spot for this season.
Gerry Dulac
11:32
I think they will sign one of their own QBs before free agency.
Rahn
11:33
How many years of this approach - ignoring criticisms after disappointing seasons, letting time elapse and expecting memories to fade, implementing next to no change aside from expiring contracts for coaches - will this continue? Anger and frustration from fans especially with Tomlin and Rooney seems to be at a high now.
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Yes it is
Fort Wayne Nater
11:33
Morning, Gerry. Everybody seems to be on the Fields bandwagon. Is he a good long term answer though? Or would bringing in a Vet like Rodgers or Stafford and have them prep a guy like Will Howard for the future be better?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
Well, I think it can be both ways. Re-sign Fields and draft a QB next year. That doesn't mean they won't sign Wilson and draft a QB on round 4 or so this year
Steve in Canton
11:34
Of these QBs, which guy is most likely to be a Steeler in 2025: Russ Wilson, Matt Stafford, Justin Fields, Daniel Jones?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
You can cross off two of them
Steve in Canton
11:35
If DL Kenneth Grant of Michigan is there at #21, do you run the card up to Roger?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
I haven't received a strong feeling one way or the other yet. Ask me in 6 weeks
Fort Wayne Nater
11:35
Is adding a good veteran receiver better to light a spark under Pickens butt or investing a top draft pick better for that?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
They will do both. But I'm not sure that fire can be lit. If anything, whatever fire there is will eventually be extinguished.
Steve in Canton
11:36
What projected 1st-round WR in the upcoming draft does GM Gerry like the best?
Gerry Dulac
11:38
Steve, you're asking me questions that I don't have answers to just yet. Need time -- and the combine -- to do so.
JJ
11:38
Do you believe that Tomlin can build/coach the team that leads the Steelers to their seventh super bowl?
Gerry Dulac
11:38
Depends on whom he hires to his coaching staff. And settles on the right QB
Rahn
11:38
Rank these linebackers of yore: David Little, Levon Kirkland, Loren Toews, Bryan Hinkle, Robin Cole and Earl Holmes.
Gerry Dulac
11:39
Kirkland, Little, Holmes, Hinkle, Cole, Toews
Jones Daniel
11:39
Gerry, you’re dialed in. I believe everything Poni writes and he cited a source that said the Steelers are interested in Daniel Jones as the starter next year. Are you hearing the same and how do you think Jones will do as QB1?
Gerry Dulac
11:40
You got only one part of your submission correct
Reedboat
11:40
If we assume that Mike Tomlin has had an inordinate amount of power within the organization, do we think that we will see the pendulum swing in the coming years? I hope so.
Gerry Dulac
11:41
He is the coach, so he has a strong say. But there is still one man who can override anything he wants or thinks
