OK kids -- Oops, don't want to offend AB in case he's reading -- we'll start our chat in about 5 minutes. Get ready....

OK, lets get started....go!!

Hi Gerry!  Who is your front runner to trade for AB and what will Steelers receive?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
I still think the Raiders have the most options to offer and they really need a big-time receiver. All they have is 34 year old Jordy Nelson.  They will make a play for AB or OBJ

I'm beginning to get concerned that the Steelers will soon be cellar-dwellers in the Division they've dominated for so long.  Losing impact players like Bell and AB is easily and logically rationalized.  But, they've been unable to replenish the ranks on Defense, and have been masking the true issues for YEARS now.  Please convince me that the lean years aren't awaiting us...
Gerry Dulac
10:51
They are not. You worry too much. They will still be the team to beat in the division next season

Could a team trade a 2nd rounder for AB and then turn around and get NE’s 1st rounder for him? Would be sneaky way for Pats to get him knowing the Steelers won’t do it directly. And the middle team improves their draft pick.
Gerry Dulac
10:53
Of course. But if the Pats are the team making THE best offer, I don't think the Steelers will turn it down because of spite or worry. But remember, AB and his unstructured route running will never work in NE with TB12

Chances of signing Weddle and Mosley?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
Zero.

Adam Schefter reported that the Steelers have said that they expect a deal for AB in place by Friday. Have you heard the same?  If this is accurate, is it logical to conclude that they got at least a 1st rounder for AB, because why would they announce this prior to the deadline if otherwise?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
I know the Steelers expected the activity to become amped and more serious this week but not aware of a deadline. They certainly aren't going to announce a deadline. That doesn't mean there isn't one. If there is, I get it. Don't give other teams more time to consider other offers or see what could become available in free agency. Or what happens with OBJ.

Are the Steelers going to resign Anthony Chickillo? Love to see what he can do as a starter.
Gerry Dulac
10:57
Probably but they don't have any designs on him being a starter

Will Steelers get 1st round pick for AB or more likely to get a player plus a 2nd rounder? What team, besides Raiders, would really give up a 1st?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
You're probably right. The Packers have two first-round picks, one at No. 30, and they could make that swap to keep Aaron Rodgers with a new coach. The Jets desperately need a receiver but they don't have a No. 2. They've been showing the most interest of any team. I can't see them moving out of the No. 3 overall pick unless it's for a series of picks. Still, I doubt they would drop to 20th.

Will Burnett, Gilbert or Dupree be cut? Could create a lot of cap room!
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Burnett good chance. Gilbert, don't think so because his cap number isn't that bad. Dupree, no, even though his cap number is ridiculously high ($9 mill) for a player who does little.

Gerry, aside from the imminent Big Chest news, where do you stand on a one year for Weddle? Or breaking bank for Landon? I'm almost of the mind to go Weddle for a short contract...leadership, coach on field, and a nice Haden-esque stab at our division rivals. A guy like Weddle could go a long way toward galvanizing the professionals-only mindset for the new season.
Gerry Dulac
11:03
That all makes sense with Weddle, but the Steelers don't need a strong safety, especially an aging one. They need a playmaker like Collins, who, to me, might be the best available player in free agency. But his price will be too high.

11:03
Gerry, there are reports that the Ravens have cut Weddle. Do you think there's enough left in the tank to help the Steelers? He's supposedly a great locker room guy.
Gerry Dulac
11:05
He is and Tomlin always liked him. Maybe they move out Burnett and bring Weddle in as a sub package guy. But he's slowing down and is old. That's not their typical target.

11:05
After the last couple of years, do you feel ownership will now put more value on seeking players with a Team First mentality?!
Gerry Dulac
11:06
I hate to tell you, they typically do. I think they better put more value on making sure players don't become that after they draft them, if you know what I mean.
Steeler in Charlotte
11:06
Lot of good free agents out there if the Steelers want to spend a little cash. With the combine over now and the draft talent known, what position(s) do you expect to see the Steelers target in free agency?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
Cornerback
International steeler
11:06
do you think the steelers should try to sign weddle as he is still playing at high level
Gerry Dulac
11:06
Only as a backup
MTScott
11:06
Do you see the Steelers moving up in the draft to insure they get one of the top Inside LBs?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
That would make the most sense. And that's where the trade for AB comes into play. Depending what they get, use that to climb the draft board. They are running out of time. They can't afford to wait at No. 20 to see or hope which player falls to them. Don't sit there and, like last year, hope Rashaan Evans falls to them. They need to go get the player they want to fill a specific need and thats ILB.

Hi Gerry, I'm looking forward to Friday and hope AB goes to Skins or Raiders. My hopes are we pick up a Corner and ILB in free agency and also draft both. I think getting rid of Bell and AB and later Burnett only makes our team better. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
They won't go after a corner AND an ILB in free agency. They will go after one and it should be corner because there are better startingt-capable CBs in free agency than ILBs
Ryan
11:11
Gerry - Any idea why more current Steelers haven't come to the defense of Ben? I know it is just narrative by the National Media and former players, but it seems like alot of it could have been shut down if a few stepped up and supported the QB.
Gerry Dulac
11:13
I think the players have more intelligence than to shoot down the thoughts of uninformed morons. Of course, those guys are paid to do shows and come up with opinions, no mater how ridiculous.

Tomlin cut his teeth in the NFL as a DB coach. During his tenure as HC the Steelers have been mostly abysmal at drafting and developing DBs. Coincidence or something more?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
I don't know the exact reason but their history of drafting CBs has been abysmal since he was hired. Since 2007, they have drafted 14 CBs and only one -- Cortez Allen -- was given a second multi-year contract. And he bombed shortly after that too. William Gay, the first CB Tomlin ever drafted, got a second contract from the Steelers, but only after he went to Arizona and was released by the Cardinals. I don't count that.
Mike W.
11:15
If Coach Tomlin had allowed AB to play in that final game, what would have been the reaction of the team, in your opinion? I cannot believe that would have had a positive effect.  Maybe it was a case of the right thing on the coach's part, although late.  But if he had allowed him to play, would he not have risked losing the team?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Mutiny. He almost did anyway. Why do you think they played so poorly and looked so flat in that game? I don't think it was coincidence.
john MA
11:16
Remember all the Ryan Shazier questions about making him a safety?  Why couldn't you draft a bigger strong safety and plug him in at ILB?  Or is there a bigger difference in the 2 positions I'm missing?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
I think that has already been a thought for them. How about beefing up Terrell Edmunds and moving Sean Davis back to strong safety, where I think he is better suited anyway. Not saying that's going to happen. But, hey, that's how the Chargers used Derwin James, as an all everything ILB/S hybrid
