I don't think you should count on another 11-0 start.

What do you think are the most important needs for next year’s team at this point?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
RB, OT/C, ILB, NT, OLB
Nate from Fort Wayne
11:08
With TJ Watt due for a big payday coming up. How crazy would it be to pick up his 5th year option and then trade him for a first round pick or maybe more and then use his $27-$30 mill a year(presumably) on 3 diff players instead? He's a phenomenal player, but I'd hate to see so much money locked on to one player that's not a QB

I don't need to read any further. I got as far as "trade him." Forget it

Any news on any possible free agent targets?  Thank you
Gerry Dulac
11:09
None yet

Jesse James comes back at a league minimum. Good idea, any chance?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Very good idea. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet

Hello. Thank you Gerry as always for the chat.  I read a comment somewhere that you said that it was Steelers , and not Nelson , who asked  him to be traded or released. I can buy that the Steelers asked him to take a pay cut or otherwise he would be traded or released.  What I have a hard time buying is that Steelers first did not give him an option to take a pay cut . And why would Steelers asked him to find a trade partner for himself  so that Steelers can benefit? If my employer is going to fire me, they will just fire me.  Thank you very much.
Gerry Dulac

The last part is true. But the Steelers told Nelson he could seek a trade and maybe find a place he'd like to play. If that didn't happen, they were going to release him. Hate to break this to you...it's a business.

R the Steelers turning into the Bengals & Browns of old?  Social media outta contro-Nelson tweets his way outta THE BURGH, Harden is kept, aging & expensive,  money paid to JuJu, when they had BIGGER needs & coulda used that $ elsewhere, Claypool goes MMA, & they think #7 is taken them into the playoffs--HA-HA--Seems like a lot of POOR decisions, all bc of loyalty & over-paid personnel-letting the wrong ones walk & signing the ones, they should let walk--What's the plan, actually what's the question?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I like your last sentence the most. Good rant, tho

11:11
Letting Nelson go raises the question: why have the Steelers failed so often in drafting CBs?  What are the key elements in a good CB?  Why is it so hard to draft a good one?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Your points are all valid and difficult to answer, but their failures at drafting CBS have nothing to do with Nelson's release.
Randy1246
11:12
With Nelson's release and Ebron's reworked deal giving us roughly 14 million in cap room do you see the Steelers potentially adding a veteran corner? If so who might fit here?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
They are not adding a veteran CB. Period. They added one -- Sutton
Randy1246
11:12
How high is the team  on James Pierre?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
High enough that he passed Justin Layne on the depth chart as a rookie
California Rob
11:13
Gerry any decent CBs left in free agency? And is the OL so decimated the Steelers have to pass on Etienne or Harris in the first round?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I will not answer any more questions about adding a CB. It's not happening, at least, not any who would be considered a starter or top backup.
California Rob
11:14
Gerry please tell me other teams want to sign Villanueva. I pray he doesn't come back to sleepwalk another year at left tackle.
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I don't think he's coming back as of now

Brooke Pryor just reported Eric Ebron’s contract has been reworked to clear up 3.9 million in cap space. That should put the Steelers with a little over 14 million in cap space. Any ideas who or for what positions they’re clearing the cap space?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Yeah, for someone they still might want to sign.

Are both Steve Nelson and Mike Hilton replacements already on the roster?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Yep. His name is Cam Sutton
Utah Jim
11:14
If they knew they were moving on from Nelson, why would they not sign Hilton? Did they try to negotiate an extension with Nelson, and it went bad?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
The Steelers have NEVER given Hilton anything more than a one-year contract and he knew he could get a better deal elsewhere...and he did. And there was no extension with Nelson. It was about money. Period.

In your opinion, who are the offensive linemen (if any) who would be selected by the Steelers ahead of Harris or Etienne or the RB from North Carolina if they are available at #24?  Also, how important is it to the Steelers to make a first round selection to get the fifth year option?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
I haven't studied the OTs who might be available. Sorry. But I will tell you it's likely a mobile tackle who can run block
Gene
11:16
Have you heard anything about signing Avery Williamson because they need depth at that position. Your thoughts please.
Gerry Dulac
11:16
I don't think that's going to happen,

Good morning Mr. Dulac.  One of the things that makes the Steelers’ organization special is that they have no cheerleaders - a completely unnecessary element most (all?) NFL teams employ.  Did the team ever have or entertain the idea of having them?  Was there a specific philosophical decision made by Mr. Rooney about not having this silly part of his team?   My Frosh football team in Manhattan Beach says hello btw ...
Gerry Dulac
11:17
No, they never did. They don't even let their mascot, Steely McBeam, on their field. He is strictly used at training camp and promotional functions. They want the game to be the show, not the sidelines, which I always admired.

Hi Gerry,  I'm purplexed about Layne's role in the Steelers secondary.  They drafted this guy as a project, and he promptly disappeared from site. Now he is talked about as a possible solution as they continue to lose experienced players.  Have things sunk so far in the secondary that they will now rely on Layne to play a major role?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
They are not "relying" on Layne to play a major role, and anyone who said that doesn't know what they're talking about. They are merely hoping he can bounce back and improve

Gerry thanks for all you do...........what is going on at the south side facility...make some sense for me to decimate a D that they spent so long trying to build up?  Now the offense still stinks and the defense is a water down version of 2020...help
Gerry Dulac
11:21
That's what they are going to need -- help. They thought their offensive adjustments would come on offense and not defense. And here the majority have come on defense.
Josh
11:22
Gerry...can you see them going D in first round now?
