OK kids, we're going to start our chat in about 10-15 minutes
10:51
OK kids, let's get started...Go!!

Do you think BB is going to retire after this next season regardless of outcome OR if they go deep into the playoffs & he’s healthy he seeks another year?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
I think this will be his last year -- it certainly is contractually. But I have suggested if that the Steelers get to the AFC Championship game, or get to the Super Bowl and lose, it's possible Ben will be brought back for another year. Never say never.

10:52
Did the Steelers extend DeCastro’s contract or is this probably his final year?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
He hasn't been extended yet.

With Conner signing in AZ do you think it's a lock they draft a RB in round 1? I don't see any of the top 3 RBs lasting until our pick in round 2
Gerry Dulac
10:53
I'm with you on both fronts.

Gerry - Coach Tomlin's extension...you could make a case against it and seeing how things play out and do it, or not later given the recent late season declines and lack of playoff success for the past decade, especially with the luxury of a franchise and future HOF QB.  Unfortunately for Coach T, he happens to be in the job at the same time as the guy in New England who is held, fairly or unfairly, as the standard.  But I don't remember Coach B being all that successful before Tom Brady.  Belichick may be better at evaluating talent than Coach T and KC and maybe he has had better coaching staffs?  Possibly if the roles were reversed and everything else was the same, that Coach T would be as successful.  It takes more than head coaching......the player talent and coaching talent makes a difference as well.
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Do not dismiss the fact that Belichick had Brady and Tomlin has had BR. An old coach once told me, 'You can't be a good painter without good paint."

Hi Gerry.  Don’t know if it was planned or not, but I saw Landon Dickerson doing cartwheels on the field behind Mac Jones, while Jones was being interviewed after his pro day.  Maybe Dickerson was trying to convince teams like the Steelers that he is healthy and worthy of being drafted in the
Gerry Dulac

Maybe he's cart-wheeling himself into the first round. His talent says he is a first-rounder, his injury history says he's not.

I'm curious about what your thoughts are on Brandon Hunt? He seems to be a popular name to replace Colbert when he does decide to retire.
Gerry Dulac
10:57
I think he will be one of the leading candidates, but, like they did with Colbert, I think they will also look outside the organization as well.

Vegas has the Steelers with 9 wins and others at 8.5 wins in 2021.  The Steelers will do better even though the schedule appears to be more difficult. Drafting a solid running back and with a good  defense I say 11-12 wins.  What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
I think 9-8 is a good over/under. So is 10-7

Hi Gerry, thanks for doing these.

You wouldn't believe the amount of money and Tylenol they give me to do these! Thanx

Good morning Mr Dulac. With your noted years of experience as a journalist, what would you say is the most significant positive change in sports reporting?  What would be the most significant negative change as well?  Hey, and our Frosh football team in Manhattan Beach gives you a big shout out :)
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Not sure what the most positive change is right now....not enough time to ascertain the good. But the biggest negative is what has happened to reporting because of social media. The half-truths, rumors and inaccuracies spewed on social media have caused journalists to react to items that have little basis in fact, if any. Even when reacting to this nonsense, the media lends some amount of truth to the rumor, even if they don't intend to. I could go on, but time precludes me from doing so.

Considering our draft order, needs & let’s say players who we would be interested in are available...what would be your player picks for first 3 rounds?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
RB, C, OT

Should the Steelers risk trading down is round 1 to get extra picks?  Also, given they are in a good position for compensatory picks in 2022, also consider trading say a 4 & 6 next year for a high 5th this year if they find a partner?  As this is probably Ben's last year, and potentially Mason's first next year, I'd think the Steelers would want as many players as possible now to give Ben a shot today but also more experience next year for Mason.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
No. The only way I trade down in the first round if I can move back, say, just 3-4 picks and get to move way up in the second round to get a quality player. More picks just to have more picks is a waste. But getting a better quality pick is worth it.

Hi Gerry. Prior to the draft, these players are slated as starters or heavy sub package contributors. Who is the best and worst of the bunch? Finney, Chucks, Banner, Snell, Spillane, Highsmith, Layne.
Gerry Dulac
11:07
Okorafor and Highsmith are the best. I'll let you judge the worst. There are two glaring candidates

11:07
Gerry, do you think the Steelers have any interest in drafting a Davis Mills or Jamie Newman in the middle or later rounds since next year’s quarterback class is not predicted to be as strong as this year’s draft class?   Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:08
No. They already have that type of quarterback. His name is Mason Rudolph.

What are your thoughts on Najee round 1?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
I wouldn't complain, but it will depend on what type of offense/running game Matt Canada plans to employ. It just might be that Travis Etienne is a better fit for them

Gerry, apologies this isn't a draft question. What are your memories of WR Terence Mathis' time with the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Very little, other than he was a dependable receiver for one season.

Given all the needs the Steelers have (LT, C, TE, CB, RB, OLB, etc...), and players after the 4th round are a toss-up, should they go all out in one area, say OL, and use their first 3 picks to move this group forward C, LT, RT/G?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Like I said earlier, I think their first 3 picks shoudl be RB, C and OT, though I suspect you will see an OLB in that mix on day 2.

Hi Gerry -  Please educate your readers on how the Steelers run a draft process and why everyone should ignore the click bait nonsense about the Steelers zeroing in on a few particular players. Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
I don't have the time and space to outline how they proceed, but I will say this -- they list players by position with a grade, then they list all players overall according to grade. This idea they take the best player available is somewhat misleading 99 percent of the time. They take the best player available AT A POSITION OF NEED. For example, if there is a center available who has a higher grade than the best RB available -- two positions of need -- they will take the center 9 out of 10 times .
redsteeler69
11:18
Gerry I believe the meat eaters up front on both sides of the line decide who wins the game. Would we be better off getting a road grader at 24 and a RB at 55.
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Possibly, but only if that's a center. I don't dispute the need for a top tackle, but they have two starters in their mind - Okorafor and Banner -- and they signed Joe Haeg in free agency. They DO NOT have a starting center and there aren't any left in free agency. But they have such a strong need for a No. 1 running back that I don't think they want to run the risk of waiting till 55 to get one

Hi Gerry, do you have a sleeper you would love the Steelers to draft, be it a nationwide or local player?  Thank you.
