It sure appears that the Steelers have rolled the dice on the 2020 season with their draft picks all playing support roles for a playoff run involving a healthy BR.  If Ben goes down, do you see some blowback among fans who feel they should have addressed the backup QB issue?
Gerry Dulac
11:40
Blowback from fans? Second-guessing? Nah, would never happen.

I’m still struggling to understand why Duck, Big Dan and Switzer are still on the roster?  They may be good teammates but I see no impact and low ceilings.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
Relax, the season hasn't started yet.

Can Buggs get snaps at DT?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
Of course.

11:41
What about looking at a guy like Hassan Riddick? AZ is trying to get rid of him.  Another idea would be a big safety like Eric Reid.  There are trade or FA options.
Gerry Dulac
11:41
There are always options.

To follow-up, The learning curve would be a real hurdle, but my bigger point was a that plan of replacement tailored to the strengths of multiple players for given situations seems like a direction Tomlin and company might go.
Gerry Dulac
11:42
Agreed. And I'm sure they have a plan. I hate to tell you this, but they know more about football than you and me.

Now that FA signings don’t count against the comp pick formula, signing a serviceable vet at ILB seems fairly obvious if they like who’s out there?
Gerry Dulac
11:42
I don't think the new comp pick policy has anything to do with who they sign or when, or even if they do.

One thought I had was they drafted Edmunds instead of an ILB the year after Shazier was injured. It turned out poorly and then the following year they scrambled to make up for it with the Devin Bush.
I feel this year is very similar with the Safety Hybrid they picked instead of an ILB...Again.
Gerry Dulac
11:44
No, Edmunds was never drafted to be a Shazier or Bush-type player. He was drafted as a strong safety, not a hyrbid linebacker. There is no comparison between Brooks and Him.

Will Andy Dalton be released?  Would be a nice backup if the price was right.
Gerry Dulac
11:44
If Ben is unable to play.....perhaps. I still think he's headed to NE.
Jordan

Hi Gerry...it’s my understanding that the Steelers really liked Travis Etienne and were disappointed when he chose to return to Clemson.  Do you think Etienne may be a viable option in next year’s draft?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:45
And, Jordan, who told you that? Hey, I like Travis Etienne, too. He could be their top pick next year.

percentage chance JJ Watt plays for the Steelers at some point?
Gerry Dulac
11:46
You have a better chance.

Gerry,  Do you think another punter will be signed before camp? Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:46
They always do.

I hope Colbert didn't want Claypool because of the ND connection, a school which doesn't regularly put ou all pros?
Gerry Dulac
11:47
I think he wanted him because he really liked him, no matter what school he played for.
And, yeah, that Tuitt's a bum, too.
Zack B.
11:47
Wasnt big on signing Winston, but just read he signed for 1.1 million.  Hell, I would have signed him for that.
Gerry Dulac
11:48
Yeah, he was a WalMart special at that price.

wouldn't a walk on free agent from a div 2 school be a better option than mccullers??
Gerry Dulac
11:49
Certainly Carlos Davis is. He at least has a chance to develop. That ship has sailed -- or should I say barge -- with McCullers. Did I ever mention he's had 41 tackles in six seasons?? That's combined now.

Sounds like they were so enamored with Claypool, they never considered trading down out of 49 to get an extra pick?
Gerry Dulac
11:49
That is correct. But they tried to trade into the fifth round.

10 WRs taken before Claypool. Did they reach ... and does it really matter if they did?
Gerry Dulac
11:51
They don't think so. They were gonna take him if only 5 wide receivers were taken ahead of him. Maybe only 4. It was not a reach on their part.

Hey Gerry, love the chats.  Would an abbreviated nfl season or no season at all affect the salary cap when play is resumed?
Gerry Dulac
11:52
I don't know the answer to that. It won't affect the cap this season.

Hi Gerry - what do you see as the Steelers biggest need after FA and the Draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:52
ILB

11:52
See anymore lower level free agent moves that make sense?
Gerry Dulac
11:54
No, I think they're done there for now because there are no OTAs and who knows when there might even be training camp -- that is, the new shortened version of training camp. I don't see any way conceivable they will go to Saint Vincent College this year.
Well, kids, that's all the time we have today. Thanx for the questions.
