Good Morning...and thanks for the chats!  New head coach, new staff, new year and same game from Rogers.  Do you sense that the Steelers are getting worn out with Rogers dragging them out again?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I know the fans are!

Which available remaining free agent do you think would be a perfect fit for steelers?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
That is not happening. They are done with that unless, at least until final roster cuts. Unless something crazy happens in the interim

Some Steelers fans are happy the team did not get Lemon. Do you think he would ultimately go "AB " ?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
That's a high bar to reach. I'd at least give him the George Pickens bar

Hi Gerry, you illustrated how you thought Dan Rooney would have operated in the draft, and instead of excitement, the current brain trust gave us disappointment and confusion.  Do you think they failed to meet the moment, or just had different priorities?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
I just know what Dan would've done

Hey Gerry, Roman Wilson seems to have been given opportunities in practice and in games but just can’t build strong chemistry with any starting QB. Based on that and the type of offense that McCarthy runs, doesn’t Eli Heidenreich make more sense on the roster, provided he has a strong camp?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
I don't know that that's going to happen

As if it wasn’t bad enough they were talking to guy before they were on the clock, Khan and McCarthy were talking to media while teams were dealing at the end of round 1. Why? Maybe there’s a chance they move up and get another guy.
Gerry Dulac
10:31
When I saw the Jets move back into the first round -- and then found out they gave up a second and 7th to do so  -- I thought the Steelers missed a great chance to do the same and take the same player, Omar Cooper Jr

Gerry, even though they have not played a game yet, what have been the differences, if any,  regarding the assistant coaches under McCarthy from MT?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
I have no idea, and probably won't. Judging assistant coaches is like judging the tires on your car. It all depends on the body make

Hi Gerry, would you guess the drafting of Allar has any effect on whether they draft a QB in round one next year?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
That's to be determined. The Steelers need to find out if Howard or Allar could potentially be the guy, even though they're not No. 1 picks.

Hello Gerry, Hope you come out on top in the Post Gazette new owner stakes. Say, watching the Steelers draft I did not get a sense that ANYTHING changed from the Tomlin era. I know McCarthy only been on job a few months...BUT saw NO imprint of change other than a few more Offense picks. Same questionable selections etc. HOW can a GM have 12 picks in 7 round draft and not use some of them to move up even a few spots in 1st round? A trade for their 21 and a 3rd pick and maybe a 7th CERTAINLY nets you few spots up at least. Would have made all the difference. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
I didn't see any marked difference at all. Except maybe when and where they took Allar. That was McCarthy's guy

Which pick last week do you feel has the best chance to help the Steelers next year?  Does Allar negate need for first round qb pick next year or is this a “keeping picking one until you get your franchise qb?”
Gerry Dulac
10:39
Yeah, (golf analogy here) keep trying drivers till you find the right one. None of their picks have "instant starter" marked on them. Iheanachor has a chance if Broderick Jones can't come back right away. Funny, but I think Riley Nowakowski might be a big contributor as a FB. McCarthy loves using a FB.

Hi Gerry - What’s with all these mid-round Iowa guys? The uniforms?

I don't think I've been less excited about a Steelers draft. They picked 21st and got like the sixth best tackle? It seems everything this organization does is a direct reflection of the owner. Boring.
Gerry Dulac
10:39
It wasn't a dramatic draft, especially because they had a chance to make it one

10:40
Gerry, were you sandbagging it for the team with your pre-draft Drew Allar comments or do you really believe he was not worthy of a pick?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I was not.

Thanx for the visit. Stop again with a question

10:41
Do you really think Mason Rudolph’s fate hinges on AR decision? Or is there more than meets the eye there in what they could do with either Howard or Allar?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
And there you go....It could. But I don't know that the Steelers would want to go into the regular season with two "rookies" who have never played in a game as your backups. But that's what they will determine in the preseason. Howard and Allar will get most of the snaps in the preseason. I'm not sure how many Rudolph will even get while they are testing the other two

Based on your pre-draft investigating with the team, how much did the Steelers draft meet what you learned? Any move or pick that stands out as particularly unexpected based on what you had learned?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
Position-wise, about the same. You never know which player is still going to be there. I was told they wanted Lemon and would go after him, but they didn't go after him. Sometimes that's easier said than done. I was surprised they didn't draft a pass-catching TE on Rd 3, especially when there was a run on them in Rd 2

Good Morning Sir, What would you say (with Rodgers returning) is the most logical way to deal witht he 4 QBS? You arent going to go with 2 back ups with no experience so will either Allar or Howard be "injured" at the end of the preseason?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
There is always that.

Good morning, Gerry.  This draft seemed to be more about the coaching staff's confidence in their ability to develop than prior years.  Allar, Max, Everette were all drafted as much for traits as for their tape (although I think Iheanochor's college career is being downplayed - he was really effective last year).  Do you think that, at 62, McCarthy was more in the mood to roll the dice on those boom/bust guys knowing that his time as a HC is probably limited by his age?  It just seems like in some ways this is the least conservative draft we've seen in a long time.
Gerry Dulac
10:49
I would agree with you on some of the draft choices, but I don't think McCarthy's age had anything to do with it. But I think Iheanachor and Bernard are plug-and-play guys.

Gerry, long-time follower of your work and first time in the chat. Do you really think Mason’s fate hinges on AR’s decision? Or is there more than meets the eye with what they could do now having both Howard and Allar in the room?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
That's going to be a big factor, for sure. But that's what they will evaluate. I know this -- as a third-round pick Allar isn't going anywhere
Ned Ryerson
10:51
Have to say I like the Allar pick. I am looking forward to seeing the competition between him and Howard in training camp and the preseason.  That said, methinks the only way they keep Rudolph on the roster is in case of injury as I do not believe they will cut Howard or Allar unless one completely bombs out. Do you think Mason has any trade value, or do you think they will keep him around as the safe backup option and let one of the newbies go?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
I think all possibilities are on the table, but they are not going to cut Allar, not as their third-round pick.
