How long until the Steelers start looking for a new stadium? Will it have a dome or retractable roof?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
It might be a while. I think a renovation will be the next order of business rather than a new stadium

Hey Gerry, thanks for all you do to keep us informed, it’s much appreciated! Who do you think is under center week one? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:47
Thanx! I still think it will be the same guy who was there last season

Thanks for the chat. It's great that the Steelers have invested in the OL, but it looks to me as if they still will have problems on the DL against the run. Agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:47
Until they prove otherwise, yes.

I don't quite understand the Allar pick. They already have a "AFC North" type prospect in Will Howard who they claim they like. If they really wanted a developmental QB why not take Talen Green from Arkansas, a high risk, high reward prospect? He has potential like another AFC quarterback--Lamar Jackson. Plus, they could have used pick 76 for a player who might actually play this year. They could have gotten Green in the later rounds. The Allar pick just adds to the muddle at QB.
Gerry Dulac
10:49
I get your concern. But the Steelers were only going to draft a QB on day 2 if they felt he had a bigger upside than Will Howard. Apparently, they think Allar does. Allar was the QB McCarthy wanted, even if Carson Beck was still there

Hi Gerry. Glad to see all the PG sports guys employed! Scenario: Rodgers comes back. Mason let go. Rodgers plays all the games, and stays healthy. Then retires. Next draft Steelers draft another QB. Now the QB room has three guys who have never thrown an NFL pass. One guy is third round, another sixth round and maybe a late first round.  How does that sound? Not great right?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Correct, and that's why it might not play out that way
Mike
10:50
Is the PG keeping you, Brian, Ray, and Chris on board???
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Yes they are.

Fox TV yesterday seem to indicate that Arizona would be a better fit for Rodger’s.  My thoughts are why wait for the head cheerleader to say yes to the prom when you have three good alternatives
Gerry Dulac
10:53
I think because they don't think they have three BETTER alternatives. Not right now. And, should I keep reminding people that the Steelers won the AFC North title last season and have been to the postseason five of the past six seasons and Buffalo is the only team to have a better streak??

In the chat two weeks ago this question was posed from Cdub: I'm assuming the greatest Steeler not drafted by the team was Bettis. Are there any other players in the debate? Your answer/response Gerry Dulac: “Can't think of any that come close” my question is: I think James Farrior was a better signing. Or, at least I think that comes close to the Bettis signing. Do you still think Bettis was a better signing and not even close?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
Of course. Nobody is a bigger fan of James Farrior than me. But hard to argue with a player who is in the Hall of Fame.

Mornin' Gerry. My favorite move so far of this off-season was one of the first. Signing Cam early gets our most vocal leader squarely behind the new coaching staff and cements his one hat status. (I hope...) My least favorite move is one not made: addressing a weak ILB group, and not giving the new DC a suitable on-the-field general.(PQ ain't it) Do you have a favorite and least favorite yet? Also, grats on the peace of mind that must come with the Paper's sale!
Gerry Dulac
10:57
Adam, appreciate the sentiment. Signing Cam to another year, even though he will be 39 at the end, was good. But I don't and never have agreed with this negative opinion of their ILBs. It's not their weakest group. In fact, I would say it's one of their deepest.

Gerry, I'm glad to see familiar names still hosting these chats and posting articles for my favorite newspaper. I was thinking about the D-line and how the story last year was even though Yahya Black has a bigger body than Benton, he didn't have the training yet to play NT. Between him and the big body they just drafted, do you think they'll work with them to get a larger body on the NT, and maybe use Benton in more of a DE role?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
We'll see how Rubio shows. Yes, he is a big body but I think he has something to prove in camp before slating him in on the D-line.

I’ve seen these prominent writers who cover the Steelers answer this question in similar ways. That would be BL, JW and the late DL. Who are also the only writers who cover the team that I trust along with you. The question was: Was Antonio Brown such a problem until he was hit by Vontez Burfict. They all answered in a similar way that there were a lot of people in the Steelers organization who felt he totally changed after that hit. Have you heard that as well?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
I hear people say that, and from a person who hosted a radio show with AB for 5 years, I don't think that hit is what changed him.

Hi Gerry, could not wanting to submit to a drug test be one plausible reason why a player would delay signing with a team as long as possible during the offseason?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
That's a real leap with that suggestion

Good morning Jerry. I hope you’re doing well - with the new ownership and life in general - and I appreciate your chats.  It seems that when thinking about next year‘s quarterback draft  class, that some overlook the fact that this past year‘s quarterback class was supposed to be loaded . . . until it wasn't’, and then how many first round quarterbacks don’t make it.  My question for you question is:  which path would you like to to see the Steelers choose this season:  Play the kids to see what you have, or continue with Aaron Rogers and get the 21st pick in the next year‘s draft, without seeing any of the young quarterbacks playing in real games?   it seems that there is no simple approach to getting the quarterback situation settled.  (Also all my friends here in Iowa are becoming much more interested in the Steelers these days) thank you!

Todd, the Steelers have one objective and nothing more, and that's to play the QB who gives them the best chance to win the division, get back to the postseason and possibly advance. They are not interested in anything else, not right now.

Why is it when a fan suggests a player move from say corner to safety, media and coaches act like fans are stupid, yet all we ever hear in over drafted players is how they have position flexibility and in the Steelers case consistently drafting players and immediately switching their positions?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Some players have shown the capability of playing two season, others have not. Coaches know who can and who can't.

Jerry why do the Steelers keep signing free agents that will be cut and not make the team?

Hey Gerry. Thanks for the chats. Do you think ARII has a good sense on how the fans feel about certain issues? I.e on things like bringing Rodgers back, retaining Tomlin, etc.
Gerry Dulac

Yes he does.

Good morning Gerry - since Ben retired, a healthy Aaron Rodgers seems to be the best option we have had under center by a noticeable margin. He brings a calm leadership and confidence (and he can still spin it), and it just feels like he’s not going to make silly mistakes. Now that he has  more help at WR, are you comfortable rolling with AR for one more year or would you prefer going with an existing QB on the roster? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I'm comfortable going with the QB who gives them the best chance to win -- and that's Rodgers. But I'm curious to see how Howard and Allar play in the preseason.
Ok kids, that's all the time we have today. Thanx for the questions.
