OK kids, moved the Dan Patrick show appearance up 30 minutes so we can start the chat a little early. Maybe in another 10-15 minutes.
10:36
OK, I see a bunch of questions in the queue so let's get started.

Gerry: I am really disappointed in only getting a 2026 3rd rounder for Pickens, but it is also being reported that the teams are swapping late round picks.  How does a late round pick swap work when the draft order is not set?  The Steelers possibly could be making the deal worse if they have a better year than the Cowboys or are they just assuming with no Pickens and maybe no Rodgers that they will be worse than Dallas?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
That's part of rolling the dice. The Steelers also get the Cowboys fifth-round pick in 2027, wherever that falls. And the Cowboys get the Steelers' sixth-round pick in '27, wherever that falls. That's how the Steelers got lucky when they traded Claypool to the Bears for their No. 2 pick, which ended up being the first pick of the second round

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.  When Fautanu went down there was constant chatter from the Steelers too bad he lost the year, he was going to be great—a solid starter—no worries.  I have never heard a Steeler say anything optimistic like that that for Roman Wilson.  Just-no experience we have no idea if he can play.  Why the difference?
Gerry Dulac
10:39
Well, Fautanu was a No. 1 pick who did compete in camp, played in a couple preseason games and one regular season game. Wilson never played in any games. He was hurt on the first day of pads and missed all ot camp. That's the difference.

Hi Gerry- Pickens trade will be addition by subtraction only if Wilson can step up, which is a big if. Did the signing of Woods speed the process up as well? Your thoughts on a 3rd round pick, but if Metcalf only brought a 2 with his resume, should we have expected more?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
No. Woods signing had nothing to do with speeding up the process. But it was all part of preparing for a possible departure

Greetings Gerry.  Do you think the Pickens trade makes it less likely that Rodgers signs with the Steelers now?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Not at all. Hey, Rodgers might actually be in favor of it. He doesn't have to deal with an undisciplined receiver who, obviously, has intolerable issues.

10:41
Gerry: with Pickens gone and Rodgers unlikely to sign to a team with this receiving corps, does it make any sense to pay Slay $10m at 35 years old or even Cam $15m at 36?  Shouldn't they try to trade those guys to contenders to accumulate cap space and more picks?  Or is the goal just to try to have enough to go 8-8-1?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Hey, they're not trading guys just to get draft picks. They're trading guys who are problems on the field and off

10:42
What is the rap on Will Howard that caused the NFL to collectively passed on Will Howard, including the Steelers, until the 6th round?
Gerry Dulac
10:42
Not sure Bill. I thought he'd be more of a 4th or 5th round pick.

10:44
Why do the Steelers think it made sense to trade Pickens now for a third rounder, rather than having him for one more year and likely getting a third round compensatory pick anyway?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
That should tell you how fed up they were with his behavior.

10:44
So what's the plan for WR2? Will the Steelers sign a decent free agent WR? Are there any left? Amari Cooper, maybe?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
There's always that possibility
George is gone
10:45
Hey Gerry, I saw your tweet earlier that stated the trade of Pickens has no bearing or impact of the chance of Aaron Rodgers signing with the steelers.  So is this you implying that these conversations of a George Pickens trade possibility were discussed with Aaron Rodgers well before this trade transpired?
Gerry Dulac
10:45
It's not me implying anything. The Steelers do not consult their own players about making trade decisions let alone a guy who isn't even on their team
Lou
10:45
Gerry all I have to say is Byyyye George. What’s your prediction? Another trade for a more complimentary WR to DK?
Gerry Dulac
10:46
No more WR trades. They already did that
NY Steel
10:46
Are the Steelers evaluating any trades to get a #2 WR themselves?  Austin, Wilson and Woods don’t seem overly compelling.  If Woods was 3-4 years younger…
Gerry Dulac
10:46
See above.
Steve from Oakdale
10:47
Tomlin gets a free pass no matter what this year, right?  It's not that they are throwing the season away, but trading and not resigning players in order to acquire picks doesn't help now.  They'll have an old qb, a below average wr room, below average rb room, aging defense.  Not many improvements, if any, from last year.  Low expectations for 2025.
Gerry Dulac
10:47
He gets no free pass. And I don't know anyone around here willing to give him one.
Paul from Louisville
10:47
What do you make of George Pickens trade?  Are we where we where last year in receiver room or another WR being added?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
To a degree, kinda of what you said first. But I think everyone would agree Metcalf is a better receiver than Pickens so.....better off? Yeah
Guest
10:48
Hi Gerry. Why trade Pickens now? It leaves a big void in the WR room.
Gerry Dulac
10:48
Yeah...the headaches are gone

10:49
after the trade, isn’t Pitt in the same boat as last year, w one legit WR and a bunch of guys?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
You can make that argument.
NY Steel
10:49
After the Pickens trade (and assuming no Aaron Rodgers), what do you think will be the Steelers’ record?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
Well, I can't do that with an assumption
Silly in Philly
10:50
3rd round pick, eh?  Must have really dislike him.
Gerry Dulac
10:51
I will remind you the Steelers could only get a fifth-round pick for Antonio Brown, who is 10 times the receiver Pickens is or will be.

Gerry do you think Rory is going to win one more major this year and if so, which one. I like him in both the PG and the U.S. Open at Oakmont.
Gerry Dulac
10:51
Yes. US Open, right here

10:51
Putt gets a two for Claypool but only a 3 for Pickens- what gives?
Gerry Dulac

You forget who made that deal -- the desperate Bears
