Ok kids, let's get started...

What a steal getting Trice eh!  Size and speed !!!  What were the injury concerns?
Gerry Dulac
9:47
Size and speed for sure. His issues appear to be in coverage beyond the line of scrimmage. I wouldn't call it a steal. Let's see him on the field first.

Good morning.  With Troy Polamalu being in town for Mel Blount’s Youth Home, I was wondering if his relationship with the Steelers has improved or there still are problems/tension between them.  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
9:48
I do not know, to be honest. I haven't talked to Troy in a good while.

Gerry, the word around town is that fans really like the Steelers new management.  Is this an over reaction?
Gerry Dulac
9:49
No, I don't blame them. They're excited because of the moves the Steelers made and the draft that they've had. It's been a great start to a transition period.

Hi Gerry, with the draft now over, the focus sure seems to be shifting to Kenny Pickett now.  Apparently the whole season will rest on Kenny's improvement, and he doesn't seem to be getting much love from the national press.  We know about his grit, but does Kenny have the arm and other tools to be successful in today's NFL?
Gerry Dulac
9:52
I wouldn't say the whole season rests of his improvement because I'm sure he will be more comfortable this year and knows what to expect. By the same token, though, opposing defenses will have a better idea of what to expect from him second time around. There is no reason to think he will regress. I think he has a lot of the intangibles to be successful.

Do the Steelers have the guts to cut a costly Derrick Watt, given the availability of on team replacements and the importance of his brother?
Gerry Dulac
9:53
They don't have to cut him. He's a free agent and there is no reason to re-sign him. None

Hi Gerry, do you think the Steelers will go after a new stadium or a renovation of the current stadium?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
Not yet, but Three Rivers was 30 when it was demolished. Acrisure is 23 years old, so we'll find out in about 6-7 years.

Not a football ?, but, why are the Pirates playing so many American league teams?
Gerry Dulac

Don't do baseball, sorry

Philadelphia's success using the scrum on short yardage downs was a subject for debate to eliminate. Since that didn't happen, could you foresee the Steelers lining up Gentry, Washington and Harris behind Pickett and doing the same thing on short yardage? That's almost 800 pounds of push.

You trying to get his back broken??

Hi Gerry.  While watching the draft, I thought about Franco Harris being at last year’s draft. I was wondering how the Harris family are doing these days.
Gerry Dulac
9:55
Me too. I'm sure it hasn't been easy

Gerry, the Steelers had a lot of success running gadgets with Hines Ward, Kordell Stewart, and Randle El. Since then they have not dipped their toe in the pool of QB/WR types. Are there not as many of these guys coming out of college than there once was? Are there any recent examples of college QBs having success in the NFL as receivers?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Oh, they're there, it just that teams aren't switching black college quarterbacks to wide receiver or any positions like they used to do. They have earned the right to be a quarterback and teams are building their offenses around them.

With the Steelers drafting Darnell Washington, do you see Connor Heyward  replacing Derek Watt as the H-back?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Yes, or whatever position they want to call Heyward
Bob Prince was the best

Hello Gerry, thank you for taking the time to answer questions.  How much salary cap room do the Steelers currently have? What does it usually cost to sign their draft class ? How much cap space do they need going into the season in order to add a player in case of injury.
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Those are questions of which I do not have intimate knowledge. But according to overthecap.com, the Steelers have approximately $7.3 million of cap space available. And they budget the appropriate amounts each year for signing their draft class.

Steelers have 2 QBs that throw a lot of interceptions when they are not in "roll it back" mode. They don't have the ability to stay in the pocket and they panic scramble. What will Canada do different to make the college QB and the journeyman QB perform like real NFL QBs?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
Really? Pickett threw one interception in the last 9 games
AI Larry
10:00
How many games will Tomlin and Canada let Harris stutter step instead of hitting the line? It took 3/4 of the last season before someone put their big girl panties on and told Harris to run like a pro.

I'll ask them

Hi G! I very much liked the coverage on the draft so far, especially giving it great marks while also cautioning the inexactness of "draftscience"...even though: IF Jones, Washington and the other OLine addition pan out...shouldn't we lose our minds a little? Forget 12 personell, what about 3 TE sets? 7 olineish bodies, one good blocker in the backfield, all of those guys can also catch and PICKENS and MUTH as prime targets. Load the box? ok, we got plenty blockers! drop 5 to 7 in coverage? fine we'll run all over you? balanced D? TE can chip and realease, everybody canblock, everybody can catch, PICKENS and/or MUTH end up 1on1...that could be an absolute clusterf**k to block! Am I wrong?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Marc, you might see that. It wasn't that long ago they used 3 TEs a lot. But, let me caution you, next time there is any semblance of vulgarity there will be no more questions accepted.

Good morning Gerry. I believe most level headed Steeler fans would get behind the new, or should I say old philosophy of smash mouth, ball control and good defense. Right now in this time frame it gives them the best chance to win. Thank you for taking my comment
Gerry Dulac
10:04
I don't know that it's the best chance because in today's NFL you better be able to score and score fast, and that requires being able to throw it. But it certainly is advantageous to be able to do it and have a good supplemental attack

Gerry, great chats all of you at the PG are great. We'll, with the draft grades and free agent signings looking pretty good.  Everything is going to boil down to the QB position. Everything is dependent on the maturation of Kenny Pickett. Expectations of sugar plumbs dancing in the head of every Steelers fan. Will it be a great Christmas, or will we all have coal in our stockings?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
That's what we're going to find out. But, let's face it, there is no reason to think the arrow is pointing down after last season, only up.

Does it look like Master Teague has the best chance to be RB3? Does he play special teams?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I don't know that he has the best chance, but if he wants to be the No. 3 RB he better be able to play special teams.

Gerry--Thanks for checking the mail. I found it curious that local sportswriters seemed to go out of their way to connect the success of this year's draft (at least on paper) to previous drafts conducted under Kevin Colbert's watchful eye. I'm thinking there has been a significant departure from the way things were done in previous years and it's okay to say so. Specifically, with regard to the draft, they clearly 1) want to build from the inside out, 2) do a much better job with player evaluations, and 3) demonstrate a willing to select the best players available rather than reaching to fill slots. Then again, maybe they just got lucky. What are your thoughts on the matter? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
10:07
I agree they have a plan of what they want to do and it might differ from they did under Kevin Colbert. But, let's be reasonable here -- they have a long way to go to prove they can accomplish more than what Colbert did in 22 years with the Steelers
