Ok kids, I moved the chat back a day so you had a chance to see the Steelers schedule. Let's get started.
Stairway to seventh seed

Gerry: obviously a well run franchise would not base its long term planning on where a draft is held, but consider that the Steelers let almost all of their significant unrestricted free agents sign elsewhere and made or will make outside signings of ancient released players like Slay and Rodgers instead of using free agency for long term younger solutions.  This approach boosts their compensatory picks next year.  Now add the Pickens trade and I have to ask again if the real objective isn't just to put on a good show next April?  To me, that's the only way to make sense of a plan that looks like a rebuild except that it will spend probably $35m on 1 year deals for Slay and Rodgers.

I hate to tell you, it has nothing to do with putting on a good show. It's not the circus, after all

If Aaron Rodgers starts all year for the Steelers, could Will Howard be evaluated just from preseason games and practices to be considered QB1 next year?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
No.

Hi Gerry. Do you think Mason Rudolph can do enough to at least get the team ONE playoff win?
Gerry Dulac
9:55
Well, that's what we're going to find out. But it's going to take more than Mason Rudolph to get that done.

Hey Gerry, Jets week 1 and Packers week 8 on SNF, do you think that's because the NFL and TV networks expect Rodgers to be a Steeler, or just coincidence and just the way the schedule worked out?
Gerry Dulac
9:55
Hmmmm.....let's see.....um ......
Josh
9:55
Do you see Cordarrelle Patterson being on this Steelers roster at the end of training camp?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
I know Arthur Smith likes him a lot, so I'm not going to say no

Is it true that Cam Heyward was getting sick of having to baby-sit George Pickens?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
Where did you hear that one??

As a reporter, do you get excited to travel to these overseas games such as Ireland?  Or is just more of an inconvenience since its more work related than anything?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Anytime you can visit and experience another country it's a good thing, work or not

Hi Gerry. Can you put the Justin Fields not signing to bed for me? Did Arthur Smith really want him back? Did the Steelers try to negotiate a contract with him soon after the season ended? Or did Tomlin have his sights set on Rodgers all along? Thanks Gerry.
Gerry Dulac

The Steelers knew he wanted to test the FA market so they let him. I don't think they or anyone expected a team to give him $40 million for two years. Just because the dysfunctional Jets did doesn't mean he's worth it or that the Steelers should have matched it. He gambled and won. There

Hello! Mr. Fittipaldo said the Steelers “wouldn’t be heartbroken” if Aaron Rodgers retires. Do you agree? I feel like the Steelers have put all their eggs in Rodgers basket.
Gerry Dulac
10:01
They are never "heartbroken" over any player making a business decision because, after all, this is a business, not a game. Look, the Steelers aren't stupid. They're not just waiting around hoping Rodgers signs. They are waiting because they firmly believe he will sign.

Are the odds of Aaron Rodgers signing with the Steelers above or below 90%?
Gerry Dulac

Rooney says they won’t leave for Ireland until Wednesday. That didn’t work well for them in 2013 in London. They could go directly from Foxboro to Ireland. Are they trying to cut travel costs? Does the league cover the travel for overseas games?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I'm not sure they're even going to be there by Wednesday. The league has stepped in and is controlling when the teams can arrive. And, yes, I remember what happened the last time. And, no, they are not worried about travel costs

I noticed when Khan spoke about the Pickens trade that he mentioned Roman Wilson becoming more of a contributor now that there is more of an opening in the WR room.  Do they feel he has a better grasp of the offense now? Or was that just GM speak
Gerry Dulac
10:04
It's not a question of him having a better grasp of the offense. It's a question of finally getting him on the field and not having another injury

How are the Steelers going to get a top QB in the 2026 draft if they finish 10-7 again? Trading one of their extra 3rd round picks won’t get them into the top 10.
Gerry Dulac
10:04
It's called packaging

10:04
While folks always like to talk about failures in the draft or free agency, would you agree that two of the biggest issues that has impacted the Steelers involved Shazier's injury & Tuitt's desire to retire early?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
No question.

Dan Orlovsky predicted that the Steelers are "staring 0-6 in the face," if Rudolf starts. I know the people on television make outrageous predictions just to get clicks, but they pay this man good money to make these statements, and the media wonders why the public doesn't trust a word of the news they report. So, I ask you, because you ARE trusted by Steelers Nation, what's your first 6 game prediction, if Mason should start?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Like nearly all national media, he doesn't know what he's talking about. And have you looked at the Steelers early schedule? It's softer than the middle of the Pirates lineup
Indiana Mike
10:05
Were you surprised that the Steelers only have one game on MNF?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Not really. They have four games in prime time. Doesn't matter which day. Personally, I'm glad. Sitting around waiting for Monday night when the rest of the league has played, to me, is anti-climatic
Mister Rodgers
10:06
Why haven’t the Steelers brought in Gabe Davis, Amari Cooper, or Keenan Allen to kick the tires?  What are they waiting for?  Didn’t Omar learn from last off season that “he who hesitates is lost!”
Gerry Dulac
10:07
I'll ask them
Whats the deal?
10:07
Gerry? Is Rodgers coming or not? Is this getting ridiculous or is it just me? Is it 50/50 still? Need some insider updates.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
It's not 50/50. Hasn't been that for a long time
Mister Rodgers
10:07
How can Omar say that this year’s WR room is different than last year?  Is this simply his attempt at a poker face as he negotiating with free agents or other GMs for a trade?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
It's different because DK Metcalf is a better, more productive, more proven receiver than Pickens
Kris Mueller

Is there an extension coming this offseason for HCMT?
