OK kids, we're going to get started in just a bit so be prepared...

OK, let's go!

Gerry, let's face reality! The only reason the Steelers have Mason Rudolph on their team is so they can screw him over at some point. That's the relationship. I believe it will happen once again this summer, Will Howard will make the team as QB2 and Mason will get cut. There is no way they cut third rounder Allar, he is QB3. Do you agree Mason will get the short end as usual?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Reality? When have I ever faced reality Bill?? I agree with you they won't cut Allar because he's a third-round pick. They haven't cut a third-round pick since Liffort Hobley in the 1980s, and that's because Hobley had some issues. And if Howard shows anything of promise in the preseason, then it might be tough for Mason. That's what happened to Landry Jones when Rudolph was a rookie. He was Ben's backup and he got cut for Josh Dobbs.

I am assuming Mason Rudolph is playing the role of 4th Qb only making it due to injury.  Do you agree?  We have seen enough over the years and I prefer to 2 rookie like Qbs with an HoFer.

Mason Rudolph is the No. 2 QB till proven otherwise. Howard and Allar are going to get as many looks as possible in OTAs, minicamp and training camp. But until someone proves otherwise, Mason is No. 2. But don't be naive enough to see who is taking snaps with what unit on the FIRST DAY OF OTAS! Or any day of OTAs.

Morning Gerry. Should we be expecting a breakout season for Freiermuth? Maybe Pro Bowl?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
I wouldn't go that far, but I hope to see him get more attention in the pass game. But, with Metcalf AND Pittman, going to be a little tougher.

Aaron Rogers give us a repeat of 2025 with no way to know about Howard/Allar. What was ARII's problem with this plan for 2026?: Play some combo of Howard and Allar in 2026. If one emerges as a franchise QB potential, its a big win. If not and record is poor, you get high draft pick in 2027 to draft a franchise QB, another big win. Win Win.
Gerry Dulac

Bill, they are not interested in a poor record. They are interested in winning and making the postseason and taking the next step. You think McCarthy wants to spend his first season in his hometown developing two QBs who have never played in an NFL game and go 7-10 or even 8-9? Here's the answer: NO HE DOESN'T.

Hey Gerry! Just wondering if you got any indication what time the Steeler Training camp practices will be. I liked the morning practices better as a fan standing out in the sun watching. Can’t wait to see what they do with the O-Line at camp!
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Me, too, but I don't know what MM wants to do.

By adding more weekday games the NFL is watering down the value of Sunday Ticket, which costs $378 for out of market fans. Do you see a time when they’ll be games every day of the week?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
Lord I hope not. But there's only one more day to use (Tuesday), though they even used that already during Covid.

Would Mike Tomlin have drafted a QB from Miami  Ohio with a first round pick?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
He drafted one from Pitt...

I think it’s safe to say we’re all rooting for Eli. How has he looked so far?

Thanks for the chats. What's your early impression of the new D-Coordinator? I'm thinking fresh eyes were needed for the past 2 or 3 years instead of Tomlin/Austin. Couldnt stop the run with any constancy.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I like him. More importantly, other people around the league like him, personally and professionally. He's a good choice

Gerry, it seems the one position where the Steelers have never had that clear superstar is TE. Heath was very good and so was Cunningham. Who do you rank number 1 in the SB era?

I know the Rai story is a good one but does he look like another guy who rolled all 7s one week? I worry JJ Spaun is that guy from the Open here last year?
Gerry Dulac

Same type of story, same incredibly long putt to seal the deal

Please talk about the analytics used by the Steelers.  It has revolutionized MLB - see Washington Nationals offensive turnaround.  Have the Steelers embraced this as much as other NFL teams?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Yes they do. Can't tell you how much because I'm not sure. But they use them

People unhappy with Rogers return don't remember that the Steelers loaded up this draft with 12 picks to be in a position to trade up. But then Manning and Moore stayed in school and some of the others faded. Has NIL and the portal changed the draft forever?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Of course it has. It's changed college football forever -- and not for the better. It's ruined the entire concept.

Hi Gerry - If the Steelers are a top 10 defense this year, wouldn't that be the strongest proof that a big part of the D's mediocre performance the last few years was poor coaching / coordination? Other than Deane - who is a good pickup - it's the same unit as last year.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
It might also be proof that Harmon and Black developed even more in year two. And that Elliott is back at strong safety. Or that TJ has a better year than last year. All to be determined

Pittman Jr. posted on social to JuJu to come back to Steelers.  Do you think MPJ looked around the room this week at Wilson and rookie Bernard and thought....we need more help here?  What's your take on his comment in general and the room overall, not withstanding DK and MPJ?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Not at all. And that's not happening.

Hi Gerry, How close are the Steelers to the Seahawks, an offensive player of the year close?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Proof that you're never that far away. But it might be more about a defensive player of the year

Gerri, I asked once before about why Bradshaw's number hasn't been retired, and you agreed it should be. A good point could be made that Brad, Lambert, Ham, Blount and Webster should be retired. Clearly the Steelers history is hesitant to retire any, only 3 in forever. Do you have insight as to why this is? Or have you ever spoke with ARII about the reasoning?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
They could retire a whole boatload of numbers of Hall of Fame players, but that's just it -- too many numbers. But Bradshaw should be next among all the others.

Any chance you got to see any crossing routes or a pass down the middle of the field to (gasp) Friermuth??
Gerry Dulac

It's one day of OTAS
Tom M.
10:18
Do you think all of the shuffling of the OL is a good idea and do you think it will be permanent? It all seems to be driven by the uncertainty about Jones. If Cook is going to start, why not just leave him at LT and let everyone else alone? In that case, why not let Iheanachor develop as a swing tackle before becoming a starter?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
It's OTAs.
