OK kids, let's get started....fire away

Since the Steelers believe in playing Hall of Fame quarterbacks who are pretty much washed up, why didn't they just stick with Ben Roethlisberger for a couple of more years?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
He was too busy with his podcast

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.   What in the world is an NFL Team’s IDENTITY?  The usual media suspects keep accusing the Steelers of not having one.  Is it just a dominant players that consistently beat their opponents?  If you have Zero identity but score more points every week don’t you just win?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
That identity crap is overrated. I'm with ya

Gerry. If Rodgers doesn’t sign here and Mason becomes the starting quarterback, do you think there’s a good chance that Howard will play if he does well in training camp and Mason struggles?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Probably not. If Rodgers doesn't sign, which they don't expect that to happen, the Steelers will likely sign another veteran QB to backup Rudolph. I don't think their plan is to have a sixth-round pick be the top backup

Do you think there is a slight chance Chris olave gets traded to the steelers?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Because you said "slight," of course there's a chance. I like Olave for the same reason I liked Emeka Egbuka. Be a great No. 2 receiver

Good morning Gerry, do I believe that Minkha has really lost it or is it more about the way he is deployed in the defense?  It seems that many are down on him but he still seems to the talent to be a difference maker.
Gerry Dulac
11:04
They are down on him because they expect him to have 10 interceptions and 5 fumble returns for TDs.

Might the Steelers feel that Nick Herbig and Jack Sawyer could replace TJ Watt, especially given Watt’s likely $ 40 million per year price tag going into his 30s?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I don't think so.

11:04
Were Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Picket really any better than Mason Rudolph? What would be your overall characterization of the Steeler’s quarerback trials and tribulations since Ben retired?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
In retrospect, considering what Rudolph did to save their season, no.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks again for the chats.  The Eagles moved on from Pickett pretty quickly for a 5th round pick and a weak backup qb.  If he fizzles in Cleveland or gets bypassed and is a backup again; was the Steeler third-round pick from Philly (starter Payton Wilson) a steal?  A reasonable do-over for the blown first round Pickett pick.
Gerry Dulac
11:05
To me, Wilson was a steal, regardless what has or will happen to Pickett

Hi Gerry,  Just curious on your take. Is Kaleb Johnson selected in the 3rd round vastly superior to - as in head and shoulders better than ---  Cam Skattebo selected in the 4th round?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Absolutely

11:05
Gerry, can you tell me whom you think is the longest shot to make the roster but in fact will make the 53
Gerry Dulac
11:06
Who you mean? Too early to tell. Ask me in camp

GM Gerry. I can't remember if it was Ray or Brian who noted that Rodgers and Arthur Smith have a very good relationship based on mutual respect. How did that relationship come into being? Did they work together somewhere?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
No. I think it sounds nice to say that about potential future working mates

11:06
Happy Wednesday Gerry! When do you think we will know about Aaron Rodgers decision before mandatory minicamp ??
Gerry Dulac
11:07
I would imagine. Man, I hope so

The Ravens just signed Henry to a big contract, are paying for a franchise QB and yet still have a better defense than the Steelers. What are they doing better that the Steelers need to do?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Have a franchise QB, a future Hall of Fame RB, two really good TEs and a big-play receiver.
Money
11:08
Gerry, can you briefly explain how guaranteed money works vs the salary cap?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
It just means that guaranteed money will always count against the team's cap, even if the player is no longer on the team. It is pro-rated over the life of the contract

Hi Gerry, Would Steeler fans ever dare chant "Fire Mike Tomlin" at home games? Or even away games for that matter knowing Steeler fans?  Will Tomlin become the new Matt Canada if the team hits the skids this year?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
I don't think it will ever reach that level unless they start 3-10
Zipjet
11:09
Good morning Gerry. Isn't the case very strong  that unless Tomlin changes Assistant Coaches OR changes HIS way of Coaching, the development of draft picks is doomed. Tomlin's record over the last at least 10 years certainly supports that. Hence the team is doomed to at best mediocrity. You agree?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Doomed is a strong word, so, no, I don't agree. But I will say certain positions need to do a better job of developing the players they drafted.
Pgh91
11:10
How likely is it that if/when Aaron Rodgers signs, we bring in a veteran receiver at his request, either through sign or trade?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
He can't request a trade. They don't ask players that. But he could offer his opinion

Goodmorning Mr. Dulac. I've been hearing a lot of fans say they're not excited for/disinterested in the 25 season because the team shows no signs of improvement/change. To the contrary I can't recall the last time I was so intrigued by a Steelers team. The AR drama is odd but has the potential to be impactful if the OL gels. They finally addressed the DL. If Harmon and Black live up to half the hype it will get TJ and Alex a few more sacks a peice. Howard and Johnson are a couple very exciting young rookies and DK is a great addition to the WR room. I consider the GP trade to be addition by subtraction. If the OL does live up to their pedigree, Johnson will be a stud. I think 25 is going to be the most fun 9-8 season in recent memory.

The Steelers sure do value pedigree and the veteran presence which I get, but almost to a fault.  I'm thinking back to Patrick Peterson and even Ben to a degree whose skills had long passed them by. Darius Slay will start, but does he have more left in the tank that Peterson did? I already know the answer is no for Robert Woods.
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Yeah, you gotta be careful about bringing in guys who might have been a No. 1 pick but can no longer play like a No. 1 pick.
Steeler Joe

Hey, Gerry. Excited about the upcoming season, because I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Looking back at the draft, I think it was a solid one, but I have a low-level disappointment that the Steelers didn't take a big, hulking guard to continue bolstering the offensive line rebuild. I feel like it could have added depth, at least, and maybe planned for a future vacancy.
