OK kids, let's get our chat started.....

Gerry: what is the next move at edge/OLB?  They can't really keep all three can they?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I've been told they're not planning any. That doesn't mean some team could call them, thinking they might want to unload someone, and a deal materialize. I'm not saying that's happening or anything like that, but you never know in this league how deals develop.

Do you sense the same bias against rookies under McCarthy or are thongs changing?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Bill, I don't think they wear those things
Bill In LA
10:07
Honestly say if no Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh is a  breath of very fresh air.
Gerry Dulac
10:08
And here I thought it was the San Diego-like weather we've been having.

Hey Gerry so glad you’re continuing these chats. You are my number one go to guy for credible information with the Steelers and have been for a long time in your opinion now that we did the Herbig extension which player becomes more tradable, Watt or Highsmith?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Thanx man. Well because you asked, I'd say 56. But, to that point, 56 was the better player last season.
Eric Witt
10:09
Morning! Might we see a position switch for one of the OLB or possibly more with all 3 on the field?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I think you will see more of all 3 on the field at the same time. Herbig specialty is rushing the passer. He's an edge rusher. That's why he was paid like one.
Tim Z
10:11
Gerry Now that the schedule has been released, what three-game span would you deem to be the toughest throughout the season?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
I would say that six-game stretch, starting from Nov. 22 in Philadelphia through Dec. 27 vs Carolina is the toughest

Gerry: The Browns gave Garrett $40m a year and got a sack record and then a massive haul in trade capital that sets them up incredibly well for the "great QB draft of 2027" right as Watson's deal comes off the books.  The Steelers gave Watt $41m and got 7 sacks and a $64m remaining liability.  If handling 30ish year old edge rusher contracts were a game is this similar to 1989's opener, Browns 51 - Steelers 0?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Ba-dum!

Gerry: great article last week about the cap.  I am glad someone in Steeler media land is paying attention to it.  The cap situation suddenly looks dire with Porter still to sign.  I still don't see how Ramsey fits in at his huge salary as he failed as a free safety last year at critical moments.  He is not a "one helmet guy".  Any chance he is traded or released?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
I was checking after Herbig's deal and was told there is no urgency to dump a high-priced player. We shall see. That being said, I don't think it would be Ramsey.

10:16
Hey Gerry could you use your influence with the powers to be (haha) for the 2027 season for the Steelers to play in Munich during Oktoberfest??  My last name gives it away doesn’t it?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
You overestimate my influence. But a Germany trip would be great. It's only a matter of time.

Good morning Gerry, why have the steelers allowed Darnell Washington to balloon up in weight, he looks slow and lumbering for a tight end. When drafted I remember him being described with pretty good speed for a man his size.
Gerry Dulac
10:18
He looks the same weight and with the same movement as he always has. Now, that's not exactly Pat Freiermuth movement, but nothing really has changed. I actually thought last year was the best he's looked since coming here
Josh
10:18
Good morning Gerry. Herbig got his deal which is good, but it doesn’t officially kick in until the 2027 season correct? So to everyone calling for the Steelers to trade Watt or Highsmith right now, there’s really no need to and they can reevaluate after this season on the edge rusher plan, or am I wrong?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
It's a new five-year contract, not an extension, so any type of signing bonus starts counting against the cap now

I've always thought C Heyward was way overrated.  A nice career, but nowhere near the dominant player you all make him out to be. But aside from that, he's been an awful captain of the highest paid and most underperforming Defense in league.  Now he "holds in", has the podcast, zero leadership and 1 playoff win in 14 years.  Has some stats but never shows up big in big games. Heck in the playoffs they gave up 300 yards rushing!  What say you.
Gerry Dulac
10:21
I say you sound like someone who is not a big fan of a four-time first-team All-Pro.
Mike D
10:21
Do they trade Highsmith now?
Gerry Dulac
10:21
That's not the plan

What can we expect with ARod having history with McCarthy as far as the offense goes. Especially with the improved WR room. Still quick throws due to his age/mobility and the questions on the OL? Or gunslinger here we come.
Gerry Dulac
10:21
Let's hope it's a little more of the latter.

10:21
Gerry, I’m interested in your opinion of the Myles Garrett trade. Seems to me, that getting Verse in addition to the 3 draft picks was a great deal for the Browns. Would you have considered that a good deal for the Steelers if they could have made that deal for either Watt or Highsmith?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
Honestly, I thought the Browns would get two No. 1s, but I guess that's why they got Verse in the exchange. And yes I would have!!
Josh
10:22
Are we seeing a new way the office of the Steelers operates by getting these extensions done earlier than they usually do? Or is this just a product of having more than a few extensions to do this year and they’re getting a jump on them?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
It's also a by-product of a much larger salary cap. Still, Boz, Rodgers, Herbig? And at least one more to come? Whew.
Alan in Bama
10:24
Good morning Gerry, it’s week six, Rodgers is 2-4 or injured. Who’s the quarterback going into week 7?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
To quote Bill Cowher, I don't deal in what-ifs
Brian
10:24
Is there some package being installed on D that puts Watt, Highsmith, and Herbig all on the field at the same time for more of the game or do you anticipate someone being traded?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
That's part of the plan. But it you paid attention, they did some of that last year, too, with all 3 on the field at the same.

Morning Gerry in your opinion what turn of events would make the Steelers a strong playoff contender this year, and conversely what also would shipwreck the season?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
They are the defending division champ and, I believe, better equipped than last season. So I think they are a strong playoff contender. But, if you mean a strong Super Bowl contender, I'm not going to go that far. Not until I see a playoff victory. Till then, that's the best that can be anticipated.

Last season Rodgers had one of quickest releases and lowest average depth of target in the league. Everyone says he was afraid to get hit, and I’m sure there’s some truth to that, but isn’t most of that on Tomlin? The Steelers have been throwing quick and short since 2019 across four different coordinators and eight different QBs. Tomlin was the one constant.
