OK kids, we're going to start our chat in about 10 minutes, so get ready. I see some of you are already in the store.
9:57
OK lets get started...

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  I know that the practices are structured so that the offense can work on certain items they're trying to focus on.  I'm curious as to how much AR and the other QBs work "on the side" with the WR's - getting extra reps, working on timing, etc.?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Well, here's a first -- the opening question is not from Stairway to Seventh Seed. To your question, they do it a lot, sometimes as part of drills, sometimes on their own.

Morning, most agree that it was time for a change with Tomlin and his staff. In the short time that McCarthy has taken over what positive changes have you seen/noticed?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
Just that, that there has been a change. To me, it was necessary. Time for a new environment, and it is definitely that with MM. It's good for everyone. That's nothing against Mike Tomlin. Just time for a reset with a new approach

Do you see McCarthy's offense this season lining up with a running back and FB Nowakowski  in the backfield?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
Yes I do. MM is a big FB guy. That's why they drafted Nowakowski on the fifth round. He has a chance to play as much as any rookie.

Who do you have for the U.S. Open this week? Also, last week you told me you never had a chance to play Shinnecock. What is one golf course in the world that you haven’t played yet that you would love to play?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I never like to pick the favorites -- that's the easy way out -- but, if I did, I would lean with Rory over Scheffler. And I would be surprised if DeChambeau kept up his disappearing act in the majors. That being said, I'm going with Matthew Fitzpatrick.

10:03
Mornin’ Gerry! So who are you liking for the U.S. Open? The odds makers are saying Scottie but he hasn’t been himself lately. I’m pulling for Cam Young. I like his steady demeanor under pressure.
Gerry Dulac
10:04
I wouldn't argue with that pick at all. I'd be surprised if he wasn't in the mix.

Good Morning Gerry. Thus far do you feel Coach McCarthy subscribes to Art Rooney's " tweaking the team" to aim for a Playoff win OR more significant "over-hauling" it to try for a higher goal of a SB.?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
I think it's a little of both -- tweaking to make them better but also a bit of an overhaul to get back to being a SBowl contender. That overhaul has been going on the last three years. That being said, I'm not sure they've reached that "SB contender" status yet

Good Morning Gerry, Would choosing a player in a supplemental draft cost a team a draft pick or two in next year's NFL draft?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Yes. There has to be an exchange

10:06
Hi Gerry. Not a question just a comment. Watching an old Steelers/Packers game in amazement at how vertical the passing game was and the swarming D made me realize how awful and lackluster the product has been over the last few years. I hope coach and talent can get them out of mediocrity and back to elite.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
I've thought that for the past couple years. It has been exciting football to watch, that's for sure. It has been mundane and dull. But  that's what happens when you don't have BR anymore.

10:08
Gerry, for obvious reasons, will you be asking former running back Frenchy Fuqua to travel to Paris with you for the Steelers game in week 7?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Only if he's bringing French fries

10:09
Is Troy Fautanu the LT regardless of what happens with Broderick Jones health? If Jones is cleared before the season, where does he slot in, LT, RT, or swing tackle off the bench?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
More than likely, but we have to wait and see if Jones is healthy enough to actually compete in training camp. If not, without a lot of work, I imagine Fautanu will stay at LT.

Any legitimate interest within the organization to give up a second round or third round pick for Brendan Sorsby?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Nope

10:10
To prepare for the game in Paris in Week 7, in which week exactly should the Steelers players start eatng baguettes?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
I suggest they wait until they can get some at Maison Lardeux. Magnifique!

Good morning Gerry. There has been a lot of criticism of Omar Kahn in the national sports media lately. I believe this is based exclusively on the Steelers inability to draft or procure a decent/franchise QB in the post Ben era. I respect that the team has chosen not to tank, not to sign a $50+ million free agent contract that limits the roster at other positions. The Steelers are a premier franchise precisely since they do not act on emotion or panic. And despite the lack of playoff success they have stacked up a lot wins, success and exciting games since 2021. AR2 and the Kahn Artist are not flashy but they are good stewards of the franchise…. And they will procure a solid QB at some point but it’s not as easy as the taking heads theorize.

Now there's someone with some excellent perspective. Touche.

10:13
Do you think the Steelers will try to use Kaleb Johnson on special teams again?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I'm not sure, but he needs to do something, or be given a chance to do something, in year 2. I'm still convinced he can be a player.

Gerry, slow time of the year for Steeler football so my question is have you ever played Laurel Valley? and what is your favorite western Pa golf course?  MacIntyre is my open pick.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
I have and I have a lot of favorites, including Laurel Valley. And I like the Bobby Mac pick took
Realist
10:15
Why is it that fans still want the Steelers to use a high draft choice on a NT?  It's not the 2000s where they play their base defense most of the time.  It would be like expecting them to return to their old trap blocking scheme from the 70s.
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Bingo. The game is different now. A lot of three WRs with pass-catching TE. The base 3-4 defense cannot match up with those schemes. That's why we see so much sub-package football. A nose tackle in this defense would play 20 percent of the time

Good morning Gerry! I’ve heard McCarthy talk about the “QB School” in interviews. What is the QB School and how is he implementing it with the Steelers young QB prospects?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
At one time, it actually was a "School." But the rules for offseason practices changed with a new CBA so the school is now more specific individual work in OTAs and minicamp.

GM Gerry, who you taking/hoping for the US Open? I like the way they make the Open Rough hard, as it makes me feel better about my game when they shank it!
Gerry Dulac
10:20
Here are my 3 picks (keeping Rory and Scheffler out of it) -- Matt Fitzpatrick, Robert MacIntyre, Cam Young. And I love Shinnecock.
Let’s go Mountaineers
10:21
Everyone is talking about Watt like he’s over the hill after one down year where he was banged up. To me he’s still one of the best in the game and gets chipped / double teamed as much as Myles Garrett. Do you think he will have a bounce back season with P. Graham? 15+ sacks?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
He better or that monster deal he signed two years ago will look like a bad business decision
