That is usually a stop for me on my way to Philly, courtesy of my friend, LCC member and Steelers season ticket holder Dave. It's tremendous

We all know the Steelers want to run the ball better this year. Have you noticed a renewed emphasis on the ground game in training camp?

Any reaction from the players, coaches on the practice field to the Hall of Fame ceremonies?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Not that I noticed, and not that I expected any. But I'm sure most of those guys are thrilled by the induction of five members of the organization.

Any chance Steelers would resign Avery Williamson as a depth piece. I thought he did a nice job last year and is still available at the moment
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Hardly. Only in an emergency

Gerry - with the Steelers preseason basically being pushed forward by a week, should we expect their 3rd game to be the game where we get the most reps from starters or will it be the 4th (everyone else’s 3rd)?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
yes, if the past holds true, the third game vs Denver at home will be the game where Ben plays for less than a half. Then again, with 16 days between the last preseason game and the season opener, maybe they will wait till then. Either way, it will be a brief appearance.

It’s kind of weird the minute James Washington ask for a trade. He’s injured the next day.🤔
Gerry Dulac
10:07
It's kind of weird because he didn't ask for a trade

After watching Troy give his HOF speech, it is apparent that besides being a great Steeler he is a great person.  Those moments give us the fan an opportunity to see the person outside the field of play.  When he thanked his children for holding him accountable, i thought, wow, how refreshing in today’s world.  Bravo Troy!  Proud to be a Steeler fan.

I found Robert Spillane’s pass coverage in last weeks game (against backups) to be a bit suspect. Have you seen any improvement from him in camp?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
That is not his strong suit

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . Do you think any of the rookies are doing well to get the slot corner back up safety and ILB role or are they better served to get someone like Jags Henderson or FA Tre Boston ? Thank you very much
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Well, none of the rookies are vying for that  slot CB role. It's Antoine Brooks (second year) and Arthur Maulet (fifth year), with Brooks looking to have the advantage right now. I will say rookie Tre Norwood has looked good, but they're keeping him at safety right now so as not to put too much on his plate, like they did when Sean Davis was a rookie.

I definitely know that Robert Spillane’s pass coverage is not his strong suit, just wondering if he's made any improvements in that area, or was last weeks game "is what it is"?
Gerry Dulac

We are only going to find that out in games when teams try to isolate him and get him on a TE or RB.

Hi Gerry…We attended the HOF Game and both enshrinement ceremonies. We were surprised that the Steelers didn’t rearrange things a little so that they could stay to support their 5 predecessors being inducted. I know it would’ve been a logistical nightmare at a time when camp is going on but I believe they’ve made exceptions in the past. Were you at all surprised?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Not really. That would have required missing two days of practice. If the induction ceremony were on Friday, the day after the game, I could see that. But not on Saturday and Sunday

If you could have 2021 sutton or 2021 nelson starting at CB who would you pick?  Don't consider side effects in the slot etc.  Is it close?

Hi Gerry.  It looks like I should have stood my ground relative to the Avg. yearly amount for Watt with his new contract.  Your friend Ed, today said, based on the contracts for Bosa and Garrett, TJ Watt should get approximatey $30 mil per year for 5 years.  My prediction was a couple mil less.  Your thoughts??
Gerry Dulac
10:15
OK, this answer goes to the previous question about Nelson......Well, all things being equal, I think even the Steelers would agree they'd rather still have Nelson as their starting CB. But that's just wishful thinking.
10:17
Now, as for Kevin, that's what Ed thinks, not what it will be. But who knows....you might be right. Hey, they gave Stephon Tuitt one of the bigger contracts for DEs when they signed him a coupe years ago, more at the time than Cam Heyward. But they will give Watt a big contract, though I don't think it will approach Bosa or Garrett

Jerry, I was not impressed with Justin Layne nor Pierre in the HOF game against back up receivers of the Cowboys.  I know it's just game 1 but unless they show improvement in the next couple of games do you think the Steelers will have to look elsewhere or will they roll with these guys?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
For now, they are going to roll with these guys. But that could change before the start of the season.

Kudos to you Gerry.  You were on the Friermuth train early and often......looks to turn out as a great call.

You can put your money on Oakmont CC or the US Am field.  Who are you taking? ;-)
Gerry Dulac
10:26
That's an easy one, as long as it doesn't rain some more. Even then.

Hello . Thank you for the chat . Do you think James Pierre has looked good enough to be a starting CB if Sutton or Haden goes down ? Thank you very much .
Gerry Dulac
10:26
For short term, yes. Long term? Not so sure.

10:26
Will it come down to the last pre season game or do you think Tomlin will decide on the backup to Ben before that?  Personally I don't see anyone unseating Mason as the backup.
Gerry Dulac
10:26
That decision was made a long time ago
Jerry
10:26
I think Spillane will be the weak link in the defense. This is a passing league and he can’t cover. Your thoughts
Gerry Dulac
10:26
Well, that was the same issue with Vince Williams.

Hi Gerry! What are your thoughts on the RB situation? Could Ballage stick with a more important role? McFarland, Samuels and Snell don't seem to be offering much of anything.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I think Ballage has a very good chance to make the team and be a contributor, however much that is. He is a good fit for Canada's type of offense. But I still think Snell will be the top backup.
OK kids, gotta be shuffling off to Philly soon, so that's all the time we have today. Thanx for the questions
