Had the Steelers added James Daniels to the deal a week ago, would a deal with 49ers have gotten done?  Should they have added James Daniels to the deal?

No, and they weren't going to do that. They weren't going to trade any of their players. Plus, 49ers want a receiver to replace Aiyuk, not a guard

Hey Gerry.  What’s the chance the Steelers trade Fields to a QB needy team if Russ is lighting it up?  Allen looks like a decent backup.  Next year we won’t have both Russ/Justin anyway.  Gonna need more picks especially if Aiyuk trade happens.

AR2 is definitely not DMR or even close to his father's caliber.  He seems passive and is reluctant to change the head coach who hires poor assistants.  The Canada experiment set this team back four years and squandered several years of some good players careers.  What would it take for him to finally change the head coach?

Hi Gerry, good morning amigo! It seems like the Steelers have missed on their judgements of the QB position for past few years: extending Ben, not giving Mason a shot, signing Tribusky, and drafting Pickett (for 2024 have signed two discarded QBs). What do you make of the Steeler’s poor QB decisions of the last few years and who is responsible for all the missteps?

Terry Bradshaw threw 18 TDs and 46 interceptions in his first two seasons. If he came to the NFL today, wouldn’t Bradshaw be traded away for a low draft pick and relegated to a career back-up? As such, couldn’t one of the recent “overreaches” be a franchise QB if given more time to develop?

Gerry: in an era of unrestricted free agency, does it ever make sense to trade premium picks for a player like Aiyuk that you then have to give a market value contract to?  Why not just sign UFAs at market prices and not give up compensation to their old team?  Even if no WRs were available in free agency, they could have signed a tackle and then drafted a WR instead of Fautanu.

Because once a player gets to free agency it can become a bidding war among many teams and you end up paying more than you would have in a trade.

Gerry, I don’t understand the thinking you laid out from the Steelers in your article about Fautanu starting at RT. If that’s the case, why isn’t Jones getting more reps at LT? Or do the Steelers think he’s not particularly good, or at least not as good as Moore and Fautanu?

Well, right now, Jones has to stay at RT because of Fautanu's injury. And, no, they think he's pretty good!!

Mornin’ Gerry! I’ve been to training camp a couple times this year and I have to say I love seeing some of the great Steelers Alum showing up! Question: I was there on Monday and thought I saw Ryan Shazier coaching up some players. Was that him and was he doing more than just hanging out? Looked like he was carrying around a clip board.

I’m nit sure that you (or anyone) has an answer for this, but why do the Steelers continually have trouble defensively on 3rd and long? This has been consistently going on since (at least) Dick Lebeau left as DC. It strikes me like Mike Tomlin & Teryl Austin have no answers to this. It gets old.
