I like mason and the way he played (once again) in Tampa. But Trubisky is faster and more athletic than all 3 QBs and I'm not sure what made you make that "stronger arm" evaluation. Because the Steelers, apparently, don't agree.

Good morning Gerry does Minkah Tj And Cam And Patrick play this week here we go Steelers

Curious to see myself. I think they do -- a little. Should find out more today about the usage

Hi Gerry..with the contract that D. Cook signed with the Jets..doesn't that say that Najee second contract will be a number south of 8 mil. Especially if he doesn't have alot of 20 yard runs?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
That's if he gets a second contract.

I'm worried about the WR group.  Diontae has too many drops and runs backwards, Pickens is a diva in the making, Austin is tiny, and the rest are just guys.  What can you tell me to make me feel better about them?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
I think you worry too much

Do you see the Steelers making a trade before the season or at the deadline?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Not unless there is a significant injury

Hi Gerry, in the first PreSeason game, Pickett looked like he was throwing the ball with more velocity.  Did he work with the QB coach in the offseason on this ?  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:39
His arm looks stronger, agreed. And he says it is. I just hope he doesn't try forcing too many throws into the middle of the field.

With no significant changes to the coaching staff again (head coach or assistants), should we expect the same level of mediocracy that we have had for the past decade?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I wouldn't call no losing seasons since 2003 mediocrity.

The two Super Bowl teams that Cowher built were loaded with leaders (Bettis, Hines, Farrior, Smith, Keisel, Troy, Heath).  These players are critical to winning teams.  Other than Cam, who on this current team fit that mold?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
Well, I think Patrick Peterson and Allen Robinson are those types of players, but they haven't been around long enough. TJ could fit that bill. Otherwise, well...uh.....hmmmmm

Gerry, camp ends today and to this point Dan Moore Jr. has taken 95% of the first team LT reps. Chuks has taken 95% at RT. Does this seem shortsighted to you? Shouldn't they have mixed Jones in more at LT and given Moore some work at RT? It feels a lot like last year's QB "competition".
Gerry Dulac
10:41
No, because that's the way they are going to play it.

Morning Gerry!  Excited for the season to start and believe we are flying under the radar.  Here’s hoping K green gets on with his life’s work. Please tell me he won’t be on the 53!  Never root for anyone to fail but it’s like deja vu with D Bush.  Cut bait no matter where they are drafted if they simply can’t play…..  you can’t let pride get in the way and sometimes I feel our organization refuses to admit mistakes.   Hope you have a great season bud.

OK, I get the dislike for KG because everybody thinks it was a wasted draft pick. But it wasn't like he was a first-rounder. And he didn't even dress for a game last year. What is to hate? And the only way he is playing this year is as that "specialty player"
who lines in the backfield (or somewhere) in short-yardage situations.

Who do you think will have more catches this, DJ or Allen Robinson?
Gerry Dulac
10:43
Not even close
Mike

In regards to your response about coaches tending to protect their draft picks more......what if the coach sucks at drafting?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
Most times it's not always the coach who is making the picks.

Defense top 3 this year?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
That's a stretch
Tom

Disagree on the Pickens play. That was a well designed play with a receiver underneath his cut to open up the deep middle. Canada should get credit for that one!
Gerry Dulac

I'll let him know

Gerry, is JPJr going to start the first game or will he play sparingly on different packages?
Gerry Dulac
10:45
He should, I can tell you that. Sure, he is going to make mistakes because he's a rookie. But they don't have a player like that on the outside. Let him play!!

Hi Gerry- To quote Tom Donahoe - "we didn't draft the guy #1 to lead the band at halftime"- Do you think they are holding back on putting B. Jones as the starting left tackle due to the schedule- not wanting to ruin his confidence by facing Bosa, Crosby, Garret, etc. right of the bat?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
That is Tom Donahoe's line, and I frequently use it and credit him. And they are not holding back for that reason. They are holding back because there is no reason to replace Dan Moore right now.

Love the chats. Thanks. I’m not a fan of the Steeler’s zone coverage. They seldom cover a receiver when he enters the zone, but rely more on containment. Is that a function of not having DBs who can actually cover a receiver?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
That's a big part of it. That's what they're hoping to change with Porter
putinbatch
10:49
sorry, also meant to ask a question: Could Porter Jr. have taken his dad's number (55), or is that against a rule? I don't completely understand the NFL numerology. thanks!
Gerry Dulac
10:49
Yes, that would be against the league's numerical guidelines.

controversial opinion alert: Rudolph has the best deep ball of any Steelers QB, and has since the days when Ben was still here.

Not going to argue

Why don't any journalists ask Rooney about the lack of playoff wins.  That can't last much longer.  You would think the owner wouldn't accept that
Gerry Dulac

I'm heading there now to ask him.
