OK kids, we're going to start our chat in just a few minutes....
9:54
OK, let's get started....

Gerry: if Heyward tries again to hold them hostage with Harmon and maybe Benton hurt and either doesn't practice or actually sits out games, can't the Steelers claw back a pro-rata portion of that roster bonus?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
Not if he's on the roster, which he is. Don't worry, Heyward will be there Sept 7

Kenny Pickett gets dealt once again! Are you beginning to think that maybe I was wrong when I said the Steelers should have given Kenny more time to prove he could be a franchise quarterback?
Gerry Dulac
9:55
Well, let's see, Bill....that's three teams now who haven't given him more time to be a franchise QB.

Nice to see the Steelers choose Waitman over Johnston in a real punter competition. Why do you think the Steelers insisted on keeping 7th rounder Pressley Harvin for 3 years despite poor and inconsistent performance (even cutting Waitman)?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
Best thing I can tell you is Harvin was a draft choice. And you can plainly see their penchant for not cutting their draft choices.

Mornin’ Gerry! Great day for golf! Too bad you’re stuck here with us schmucks. Anyway, were you surprised about any of the player cuts to get to the 53?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Still plenty of time for that. Wasn't surprised by the cuts. Kinda anticipated Leal, mildly surprised by Robinson because of his special teams. But they liked what they saw from Carson Bruener on special teams so they went with the recent draft pick.

Gerry, do you feel Coach Tomlin is on the hot seat for the first time in his career?   If they miss the playoffs or not win a playoff game, is he in trouble?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
No, I think we have seen he is Teflon when it comes to not winning playoff games. If they miss the playoffs, he will be on the hot seat again, but only with the fans

Gerry: the Steelers kept 8 defensive linemen including some guy I have never heard of named Esezi Otomewo.  This leaves them thin at WR and DB.  Is this a reaction to Heyward's continued threats to not play?  Even if Benton and Harmon are hurt, six would seem to be more than sufficient for a few weeks.
Gerry Dulac
9:59
It's a reaction to what they saw from Otomewo in the preseason. That's why they kept him.

Has anyone ever confirmed whether Mike Tomlin’s headset is actually connected to anything?

Colbert is taking a lot of heat for his last 5 drafts.  They weren't good at all.  Is he taking blame that should be placed on someone else?  You have said Tomlin has final say on all players.  Colbert made Hall of Fame picks when he was paired with Cowher.  Once Tomlin got more power, the drafts went downhill fast.  Did Colbert just lose his ability like an aging QB?  Or does Tomlin really deserve the blame for these drafts?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
It has been a collaborative effort. Maybe some of the blame goes to the people who didn't help develop the players they drafted.

Will the Steelers have any interest in Hunter Renfrow or Cole Strange?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
I would with Renfrow

Thanks for doing the chats.  Do you think Kaleb Johnson will be pretty involved early or does he need to work his way into a timeshare?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
They will get him involved. Unlike last year's two-back rotation, I think you will see a three-man rotation with Gainwell

Gerry, based on early projections it sounds as though the majority of the sports world sees little to no improvement to our record this year. Since Rogers is on a one year deal and we have a number of aging veterans, I feel as though we don’t have a long range plan. What benefit is there to finishing middle of the pack and not getting a crack at a top draft choice? Based on the money currently obligated to the defensive side of the ball, it seems as though draft picks will be the only way we can build. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
That is always the only way to build -- through the draft. That is what they have always believed. The way they are going now, it's just a bunch of moving parts trying to find their way to a playoff win. It's a one-year plan, not a long-range one.

Rodgers will need decent protection, what percentage of improvement do you expect from our OL compared to last year.  Will we continue to have trouble gaining 1 yard when we need it?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
That's what we're going to find out. I think you're going to be surprised.

Hi Gerry, everyone is talking about the Steelers WR room. If they had kept George Pickens, how would people feel about the room ? If the answer is better ,then they should have kept him.
Gerry Dulac
10:05
There was a whole lot more to it than that. Not that simple.

Good morning, Gerry: Has anyone checked on Bill in LA the last 48 hours?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Sending security there now.

Gerry were you surprised by Beanie Bishop being cut. He had such a good year last year, did he have a drop off in camp?
Did it have anything to do with them using 4 spots for QB? Or perhaps an extra DL since Harmon will miss some time?
I hope he clears waivers and they can pick him back up.
Gerry Dulac

I was a little, and there is something to what you are saying. Don't throw the farewell party just yet. Same with Pierre

Gerry, Do you think cost saving played much of a role in this year's roster decisions, especially with veterans like Leal, Pierre, Bishop?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
No, they count peanuts in the grand scheme of the salary cap.
Major Rick

Good morning, Gerry. The Steelers only kept 5 WRs, do you think they pick one up with the recent cuts, such as Valdes-Scantling? I’m not sure if he was one of Rodgers favorites during their time together with the Packers.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
They very well could. He seems like an obvious one, eh?

If the Steelers pick up a WR, who's most likely to get cut?
Gerry Dulac

Don't forget, they still have a move left when they put Howard on IR

Hi Gerry. I’ve been following the Steelers since the 1960s. I can’t remember the last time I was so unsure how they will perform going into the season. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go 11-6. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go 6-11. Seems to me it’s all about the QB play. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
It's always about the QB. But you have to go back a looong way to find the last time this team went 6-11. I don't think you have to worry about that at all.
