OK kids, we will start our chat in just a few minutes. Just a little news for ya: Steelers are signing veteran CB Desmond King and adding him to their 53-man roster.

Does the 2 punters make the final cutdown indicate they’re trying to trade one or is it just giving them a few extra days to decide who to keep.    When one gets traded or cut will they probably be signing a CB off of the waiver wire.

And there ya go.....They signed a corner, Desmond King, as was their desire. And they will likely release Braden Mann. They kept him on the initial 53 for this very purpose -- holding a spot for when they signed someone from the waiver wire.

Isn’t it a fact that first round drafted quarterbacks who have had only one year of college starting experience hardly ever succeed in the NFL? Mitch Trubisky and Trey Lance are just two examples. Given that, why did the Colts select Anthony Richardson and make him their starter, even though he looks so raw? He needs 2 more years of college to see if he can be an effective NFL quarterback. Agree?

No I don't agree. I haven't since you lumped Mitch Trubisky and Trey Lance together. There is no comparison. Trubisky has started many games and twice taken the Bears to the postseason. Lance has done nothing and will go down as one of the all-time draft busts

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the Chats.  The rookie Trice had a severe non-contact injury, but it appears the Steelers had a very low number of camp or preseason major injuries this year.  Do you think the increased contact that Tomlin implemented is the reason?  So many teams kept the high paid players on the side lines in shorts most of the summer.

I think maybe they are just fortunate. It is difficult to simply stay away from injuries because they can happen at any moment for any reason.

Good morning Gerry.  For years steelers may trade for a depth piece after roster cut down.  This year they were sellers.  Do you see this as a clear indication that roster is loaded versus past years and this could be a bigger season than we think?

The rationale is this: They kept two to hold a roster spot for when they signed a CB, which they did today. Once they added the new guy to the 53, a punter will be released. And I don't think it will be Pressley Harvin III.

did the Steelers do Green a disservice by drafting him and setting him up for failure as a center or was he just a bad draft pick no matter where he played?

I think the latter is a better reason. They gave him 3 years. That's long enough.

I know they wanted to have someone else at that position in addition to Pierre. It is year 4 for Pierre. Usually backups don't get more than 3 years. But I think he continues to hang on...for now

It is surprising to me that team decided to cut Zach Gentry who is a reliable blocking TE at the least and can be valuable if team is planning to play 12 personnel. Do you think Steelers will bring him back in place of keeping 2 punters ? He may not want to come back since he is a vested veteran . Thank you for taking my question .

They did not keep two punters for that reason. See above answers why they kept two. And, like I said, I was a little surprised Gentry was let go

Are the Steelers going to bring in another outside CB because JPJ is raw, Peterson has lost speed and they’re one or two injuries away from having to play Pierre in games?

Morning Gerry!  Assume 2nd punter will be traded and noticed a team or two didn’t have one yet.  Also any updates on providing any CB depth? I have the utmost confidence in Omar and Andy and assume they are finding a way to add some depth. James Pierre acares
