Is Desmond King a better option at cornerback than James Pierre? The Steelers must think so or why sign him, right? Is King better than Joseph or Igbinoghene who were just traded for each other, indicating their availability?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I don't know if they think he's a better option, but right now he's an option and that's what they wanted.

How do you see the role of the new corner we just signed with our thin CB depth.
Gerry Dulac
10:27
You just answered it -- to improve their thin depth at the position. That's one position that cannot afford an injury to either 20, 24 or 29

Gerry, there are many QBs who make it as a starter but fail to maintain that after 3 or so years.  Many teams move on from them and they become backups or are traded.   Is 3 years enough time to develop a QB and who in the league is currently in this  predicament?
Gerry Dulac

Teams usually know after a couple years, especially with No. 1 picks. They are not going to stay invested in them long because QBs who were drafted No. 1 come at a higher price. Teams want and need to find out right away if the QB they drafted is their man for the future. If not, they move on and go find another. That's why teams are so desperate to unearth one and QBs are always so overrated and overvalued in the draft.

Hi Gerry!  Love the chats.  Any CB trade rumors or will they just pick thru the waiver wire?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
You asked. I answered earlier.

Oops - You're happy they picked JT? He missed the cut in every major this year (Masters +6, PGA +12, US Open +13 and The Open Championship +11)  Glover and Keegan were far more deserving - what say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
Yes. And they were deserving.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  Why keep 2 punters?  Just kidding!  I get it is preseason but hard to not feel pretty good about the execution on offense.  Seems like MC opening things up for KP, run blocking looks better and depth is solid.  Talk me off the positive ledge and you can't respond with "it's the preseason"!
Gerry Dulac
10:32
OK, then I won't. Look, the Steelers and their first-team offense have given everyone -- players and coaches included -- a reason to be positive. What they did on all five series, making it look so easy, has everyone excited. But I should remind you -- it's the preseason. :)

I think the fans are comfortable (and aware) for the season to begin when most of the questions are about 2 punters. Sorry about that.

10:32
How many hours per week do the players put in during the season?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
I never counted, but I will tell you it's a whole lot more than just the time they spend on the practice field. They typically report for meetings around 8 am and don't leave the facility until about 4 or 5, depending on the day.

Thanks as always for the chats Gerry!!  Is the defense capable of holding a healthy Burrow, Jackson, and Watson from dropping more than 24 pts.  Flip side can this offense score more than 24 against those 3 teams defense?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
That's what we are going to find out. But I think they are capable against the Browns and Ravens for sure.

With TE Pat’s history of concussions, was releasing Gentry risky?  Very little depth if Pat goes down for any length of time
Gerry Dulac
10:35
I won't argue

I went to the Steelers-Falcons game last week, they had piped in drum sounds between each offensive play of the Steelers, I thought that was against the NFL rules.
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Between plays, not during. To your point, though, that is one of the most annoying stadiums I've ever watched the game. Contriving to create atmosphere by drumming up noise is what losing teams do.

better Ryder Cup duo....Ballesteros and Olazabal or Speith and JT?
Gerry Dulac

Good one

So, what's with 2 punters?  Just kidding, Gerry.

Any chance neither Fehoko or Gentry do not land on a NFL roster? And if the Steelers trade Mann, I assume they would take one of them back? Which one would you take back if you could? If both are not available who from the practice squad would you put on 53 man roster? Or would they look and see what secondary help might be out there after NFL roster cuts?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
I'd take Gentry. They have enough Fehoko-types on the roster.

I don't expect you to know the answer to this but down the road it might make a good feature story if  Elijah Riley sticks with the team... I see that he went to West Point. How does he fulfill his service commitment, is he a reservist? Do they even still have the service commitment for athletes?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
You're right on two fronts -- I don't know the answer and it will make for a good story. Thanx

Hey Gerry! What do you think of Desmond King?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
Well, Ed, I think it was a good addition because they had to get someone at the position for depth. He has started a lot of NFL games

Hi Gerry, love your chats. I watched a lot of Broderick Jones in the final preseason game against Atlanta. I thought he looked solid. How do you think he played that day? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:41
It's hard for me to evaluate O-linemen during a game, but all I can tell you is the coaches really like what they see and how he is progressing.
Joe
10:41
Isn’t King a slot corner? Why bring in another since we have two? We need an outside corner
Gerry Dulac
10:42
Not sure how he was deployed. Haven't had time to check yet.

Gerry, I don't understand the Steelers on why they let Montravius Adams to hang around. He is awful and gets pushed around like a Rag Doll. They had a really good Defensive Tackle who looked much better than Adams in Brieden Fehoko and let him go. What gives?
Gerry Dulac
10:42
Apparently, they don't think so.

Hi Gerry - have you seen a better move than getting a 6th rounder for a G/C who can’t play?  And he is NOT 6’3 and 315lbs.  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:43
It was a good one. But I didn't know you measured him.
